There is no universal best robotic pool vacuum. The right choice depends on whether your pool is above-ground or in-ground, how much surface area one cycle must cover, the debris you collect, and whether you prefer unlimited corded runtime or cordless convenience. For most in-ground owners, the Dolphin Nautilus CC Plus is the value-oriented corded choice, while the Dolphin Premier is the better upgrade when filtration and waterline cleaning matter most. The Beatbot AquaSense 2 Ultra is the premium cordless option for buyers who want submerged cleaning plus surface skimming, but its price is difficult to justify for a small or simple pool.

Our picks, by buyer
Best value: Dolphin Nautilus CC Plus
Bob Vila selected the Nautilus CC Plus as its best overall, making it the sensible starting point for an in-ground owner who wants established corded operation without paying for premium cordless features. It is a better match for regular floor-and-wall maintenance than for someone demanding surface skimming, app-based mapping or battery operation. Confirm the current model-year basket, cable length, included filters and warranty before ordering.
Best corded upgrade: Dolphin Premier
The Pool Nerd’s tested-model coverage favors the Dolphin Premier for buyers prioritizing filtration and waterline cleaning. Its multi-media filtration and timer are useful where leaves, pollen and fine dust arrive together. It remains a corded machine: unlimited operating time is the advantage, while untangling and storing the cable are the trade-offs. Best premium cordless: Beatbot AquaSense 2 Ultra
The manufacturer describes the AquaSense 2 Ultra as a five-in-one cleaner: submerged floor, walls and waterline, plus surface cleaning and water clarification. Its HybridSense AI mapping, obstacle detection, app control and one-click poolside parking are specifications, not proof of better scrubbing in every pool. Beatbot lists up to five hours for floor cleaning, up to five hours for walls and waterline, up to 10 hours for surface cleaning, and a 4.5-hour full charge; these are mode-specific “up to” figures. See the product page and overview.
Official pages displayed $2,499 against a $3,150 comparison price on one page and $2,299 on another. Treat both as dated promotions, not a stable MSRP. The warranty policy lists 36-month main-body coverage, while consumables such as baskets and roller brushes receive shorter coverage. Beatbot says steps require sufficiently wide surfaces and water deeper than 1.31 feet, so measure ledges and steps rather than assuming “full coverage.”
Best midrange cordless: Beatbot AquaSense 2 Pro
The official comparison positions the AquaSense 2 Pro below the Ultra while retaining floor, wall, waterline and surface cleaning. A displayed $1,899 price was promotional. Choose it when avoiding a cable matters and you want more than floor-only cleaning, but compare its included filters, navigation modes, battery replacement path and warranty exclusions with the Ultra before paying the premium.

Best lower-cost cordless: Beatbot AquaSense 2
Beatbot pages displayed approximately $749–$799 for the AquaSense 2. The official comparison lists cordless floor, wall and waterline coverage with less advanced navigation and no water-clarification feature compared with the higher models. It is a reasonable fit for a medium, uncomplicated pool; it is not automatically the economical choice if a proven corded cleaner costs less over its service life.
Best budget cordless: Aiper Scuba S1
Aiper’s U.S. campaign displayed $499.99 against a $699.99 reference price on August 18, 2026. It is aimed at weekly cordless maintenance and lighter debris loads. Before buying, verify the exact pool-size and surface rating, wall and waterline results, filter capacity, replacement battery availability, authorized service and return policy at Aiper’s current U.S. page. A low sale price is less attractive if a battery or drive component cannot be sourced later.
Best above-ground candidate: Polaris P70
Bob Vila identifies the Polaris P70 as an above-ground pick. Above-ground walls have different geometry from in-ground pools, so confirm that the exact P70 configuration matches your liner, wall angle and floor shape. Do not pay for an in-ground wall-climbing system when a simpler floor cleaner meets the pool’s needs. Check availability through Polaris.
Rank #2
- Cordless Robotic Pool Cleaner, Pool Vacuum for Above Ground & Inground Pool
Best fine-debris candidate: Wybot C2
Bob Vila lists the Wybot C2 for fine debris. That makes it worth considering for sand, pollen, dust and silt, but a “fine-debris” label is not a published micron test. Ask how often the fine filter must be rinsed, whether a larger basket is included, and whether replacement filters and batteries are sold directly at Wybot.
Best corded high-performance alternative: Polaris VRX iQ+
Wired highlights the VRX iQ+ for performance and cable management. It suits a large pool where a battery pause would force multiple cycles. The cost is higher and the cable still has to be stored, but continuous power can matter more than app features when the pool collects heavy debris.
Corded or cordless?
Choose corded when continuity matters
- Unlimited runtime is useful for large pools, wall and waterline cycles, or heavy leaf fall.
- You avoid waiting several hours for a battery to recharge.
- Established corded models often have simpler controls and broader service histories.
- You must provide a suitable nearby power source, keep connections dry and manage loops or snags.
Choose cordless when deployment is the problem
- No floating cable makes frequent short cleanings easier.
- Poolside parking or retrieval can reduce lifting and cable handling.
- Battery capacity limits how much of a large or complicated pool one charge can finish.
- Charging time, battery aging and replacement cost become ownership risks.
“Cordless” is not automatically an upgrade. Compare the area and geometry your pool requires with the robot’s floor, wall, waterline and surface modes; an advertised area rating may require multiple cycles.
Coverage claims: what to verify
Floor, walls and waterline
Floor cleaning is basic capability, not a guarantee of equal performance on vinyl, fiberglass, plaster, pebble or tile. Wall climbing may stop below the waterline, and waterline scrubbing is a separate test. Look for independent evidence that the robot maintains traction over your surface.
Steps, benches and tanning ledges
Measure step width, ledge depth, transition angles and water depth. A robot can climb a vertical wall yet fail on a shallow shelf, narrow step or raised drain. Manufacturer language such as “full coverage” should be treated as an advertised claim unless testing confirms it.

A submerged robot does not remove floating leaves. Tree-lined pools may need a separate surface skimmer, such as Beatbot’s iSkim, in addition to a floor cleaner. Beatbot lists a nine-liter basket and up to 28 hours of surface operation for that product; those are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements.

Just a clean pool, automatically.
Filtration and debris handling
Match the basket to the debris rather than choosing by sensor count.
- Leaves and insects: favor a large debris basket and manually remove the worst load first.
- Sand, pollen and silt: favor a fine or ultra-fine filter that is easy to rinse.
- Mixed debris: look for multiple filter options. A fine filter can clog quickly under heavy leaves.
- Easy ownership: prefer top-load access, secure debris retention and parts that are sold separately.
Beatbot markets multiple AquaSense 2 Ultra filter configurations and an anti-blockage/self-flushing design. These remain manufacturer claims. Check whether fine baskets are included or optional, how much they cost, and whether debris spills out when the robot is lifted.
Navigation and “AI” in practical terms
Robots may use random movement, pattern navigation, gyroscopes, infrared or ultrasonic sensors, cameras, mapping and app-controlled spot cleaning. These can reduce missed areas, but none guarantees coverage around ladders, tight coves, unusual corners, tanning shelves or raised drains. The Pool Nerd says it has tested more than 37 robotic cleaners, while Bob Vila reports testing more than 40 overall and more than 10 new models for 2026; read their pool type, test duration and criteria rather than treating a ranking as universal.
Prioritize brush traction, filtration, runtime and parts support over the word “AI.” A well-supported corded cleaner with a large basket can outperform a smarter cordless model once its battery is depleted or its fine filter is clogged.
Pool compatibility checklist
- Above-ground, in-ground, or both?
- Surface: vinyl, fiberglass, plaster, tile, pebble or another finish?
- Pool area, longest dimension and operating depth?
- Slopes, drains, coves, steps, benches and tanning ledges?
- Saltwater compatibility stated for this exact model?
- Can the robot complete the required modes in one charge or cycle?
- Must the robot be removed before swimming, and must the charger remain dry?
Maintenance and ownership
- Remove, empty and rinse the basket after every cycle; rinse fine filters immediately so debris does not harden.
- Inspect brushes, tracks, wheels and the impeller for hair, string and trapped leaves.
- Dry the robot before charging and keep the charger or control box out of direct water and sunlight.
- Store it out of prolonged sun and winterize it according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Keep app and firmware software current when the model requires it.
- Before purchase, price replacement filters, brushes, tracks, batteries and power supplies.
Warranty length is not the same as warranty quality. Check authorized-retailer requirements, shipping responsibility, chemical or saltwater exclusions, consumable coverage, battery-degradation rules and whether the warranty transfers to a second owner. Maytronics says some Dolphin products carry three- to four-year full warranties, but the exact term varies by model and market.
Quick Recap
Where robotic cleaners stop
- They do not balance chemicals or replace the pool’s filter and skimmer maintenance.
- They do not reliably treat attached algae; brush and chemically treat the pool first.
- They may miss narrow steps, recesses, ladders and shallow ledges.
- Large leaves may need manual removal before a cycle.
- Professional inspection or repair is still required for equipment faults or structural problems.
How to choose in five minutes
- Identify the pool: above-ground owners should start with a compatible above-ground model; in-ground owners need the required wall and waterline coverage.
- Classify debris: leaves favor capacity and possibly a surface skimmer; pollen and sand favor fine filtration.
- Decide on power: choose corded for large or heavily used pools, cordless for quick deployment and no cable.
- Measure problem areas: record step width, ledge depth, slopes and pool area.
- Check ownership: verify warranty, battery policy, replacement filters and return terms before comparing sale prices.
