If you want an Android phone that is easier to repair but don’t want a Fairphone, start with the HMD Skyline. iFixit describes it as easy to open, with screen and battery repairs prioritized, and says HMD supports common repairs with replacement parts and instructions. The practical catch is that parts and guides depend on your region.
For a more mainstream option with a well-documented repair path, consider a specific Google Pixel model—especially the Pixel 10 rather than assuming every Pixel is equally repairable. Recent Samsung Galaxy S25 models are worth a look if you prefer Samsung, but adhesive makes some major repairs harder. The right choice depends on the repair you might need, local parts and service access, and how long you expect to keep the phone.

How to choose a repairable Android phone
Repairability is more than whether the battery comes out. iFixit’s scorecard frames a repairable product as one that is straightforward to disassemble and fix with parts and instructions supplied or endorsed by the manufacturer. In practice, compare the repair you are most likely to need, whether parts and instructions are available, and whether a workable repair channel exists where you live.

- Repair difficulty: A phone may make battery replacement relatively easy while still making screen, back-cover, or charging-port work difficult.
- Parts and instructions: Check for model-specific manuals and genuine or endorsed parts, not just a general promise of repair support.
- Local repair options: Manufacturers may offer self-service, authorized, independent, in-house, or mail-in repair in different combinations. Availability varies by brand and market.
- Software support and practical ownership: Consider the stated support period alongside the repair path. Also verify local price, stock, and carrier compatibility before buying; these vary by country and are not established here.
iFixit’s Smartphone Repairability Scores explain the scorecard approach, while its repair ecosystem coverage describes the different repair channels manufacturers may support.

Best alternatives to Fairphone
HMD Skyline: the strongest hands-on repair candidate
The HMD Skyline is the clearest choice here if opening and repairing the phone yourself is a priority. iFixit says its camshaft mechanism makes the phone easy to open and that screen and battery repairs are well prioritized. It also notes that battery adhesive takes extra effort to clean and replace, so “repair-oriented” does not mean every job is effortless.
HMD’s repair guide identifies the back cover, charging port, battery, and screen as replaceable components on its repairable phones. It says parts and guides are available through HMD or iFixit only in regions they serve. Check that the Skyline and the parts you may need are supported in your country before treating this as a practical repair option.

Google Pixel 10: strong documentation, with model-specific caveats
Google offers a comparatively clear official route for Pixel repairs. Its support page says repair manuals cover Pixel 6a and newer phones and that genuine parts are available. Google also provides diagnostics information. It cautions that self-repair can cause injury or device damage if you lack suitable technical skills, and places responsibility for self-repair risks on the user.

- Designed to Be Repaired, Not Replaced: The Fairphone Gen. 6+ is built around a 12-part modular design, so you can swap the battery, screen, speaker, or cameras yourself with just a screwdriver instead of replacing the whole phone. It's backed by a hardware warranty of up to five years and software support through 2033.
- Smooth Performance, Serious Durability: Powered by Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 and 12GB RAM, keeping apps fast and multitasking smooth. The 120Hz OLED display makes scrolling feel buttery, not choppy, and Gorilla Glass 7i plus IP55 splash-resistant means it can handle what your last phone couldn't. There's 256GB built in (expandable up to 2TB), so you're never trading photos for space.
- Less Noise, More You: Fairphone Moments lets you switch between full Android and a distraction-free mode with up to five essential apps of your choice. Working, traveling, or spending time with the people who matter - you decide what shows up on your screen, and what stays out of reach.
- A Phone That Matches Your Values: The Fairphone contains 51% fair and recycled materials by total weight, is assembled using renewable energy, and supports living wages for factory workers. Robust everyday performance, without pretending the supply chain doesn't matter.
- US Carrier Compatibility: This Android smartphone supports AT&T and T-Mobile, and supported MVNOs on those networks. It is not supported on Verizon or Verizon-network MVNOs. 5G speeds require a 5G-enabled SIM/eSIM and supporting data plan, and availability varies by carrier and location.
Among recent Pixels, iFixit describes the Pixel 10 as having prioritized screen repair, a back glass that does not require heat to remove, and improved access for battery and charging-port repairs. It still notes adhesive across many components. Don’t generalize that assessment to the entire Pixel range: iFixit calls out a stubbornly glued battery and a difficult charging-port repair path on the Pixel 9.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge and S25 Ultra: a secondary option
If you prefer a mainstream Samsung phone, the S25 Edge and S25 Ultra have some repair-friendly component choices: iFixit notes easier battery removal and modular charging ports. But it also says adhesive-only attachment for the screen and back cover makes those repairs harder. The S25 Ultra score shown by iFixit is provisional, so it should not be treated as a final score or directly ranked against completed assessments.
Check the iFixit Samsung Galaxy repairability assessments for the exact model rather than assuming the whole S25 line has the same repair profile.

How Fairphone compares as a benchmark
Fairphone is excluded from this shortlist, but it provides a useful reference for what a deliberately modular phone can offer. On its current Gen. 6 product page, Fairphone lists 12 user-replaceable parts, a repairability index of A, and parts and software support through 2033. It says the USB-C port, battery, display, and back cover can each be swapped in under five minutes; that timing is a manufacturer claim, not an independent timed test. The same page reports an iFixit score of 10/10.
Those details are Fairphone’s own product-page claims and a point of comparison, not independent proof that another phone will be cheaper or easier to keep running. See the Fairphone Gen. 6 product page for its stated replaceable parts and support period.
Before you buy: check the repair path for your country
- Choose the exact model and likely repair. Compare screen, battery, back-cover, and charging-port access separately; a favorable battery design does not guarantee an easy screen repair.
- Confirm parts and manuals are available locally. Check the manufacturer’s current support pages for the exact model and your region. HMD explicitly limits parts and guides to regions it serves.
- Decide who will do the repair. Verify whether self-service, authorized, independent, or mail-in service is actually available to you. A repair manual alone does not establish local service or parts inventory.
- Check software support and buying basics. Compare the stated support period, then confirm current price, stock, and carrier compatibility with local sellers or the manufacturer. These details are country- and time-dependent.
Google recommends self-repair only for people with relevant technical skills. If you are not equipped for phone disassembly, use the official repair channel or a qualified repair provider instead of treating documentation as a substitute for experience.
