It is different from split-screen racing
In a normal split-screen race, each player controls a separate vehicle. That is useful for head-to-head competition, but it does not reproduce rally teamwork. That setup changes the social experience. Mistakes are shared, communication becomes part of the game, and success depends on timing rather than only on lap speed. It also means the pair should agree on a callout style before starting: the driver needs short, predictable information rather than a running conversation during a fast section.

- Local co-driver: two people use the same console and display, typically through split-screen or a second local input.

Online co-driver: when to choose it
Online Co-driver mode is better when the two players are in different homes or want each person to use a full-size display. Do not purchase it expecting the same documented arrangement as WRC Generations unless the store listing or current game documentation for your exact edition explicitly adds that function.

When it is the better choice
- You want to race against your friend rather than share one car.
- Your group values cross-platform lobbies and larger online events.
- You prefer a current official WRC package with club-based competition.

Pick DiRT Rally’s VR co-driver mode when the hardware is already in your living room and the goal is specifically to let Player Two handle pace notes.
