Logitech’s G29 and G920 target different console families, Thrustmaster’s T248 comes in separate PlayStation/PC and Xbox/PC versions, and Fanatec’s CSL DD has an additional condition for Xbox use. The official sources establish compatibility, but do not provide comparative tests of comfort, force feedback, reliability, or value.
Start with the game and platform
Compatibility lists are specific to a game edition and platform. Forza’s official steering-wheel list is for the PC version of Forza Horizon 5; it names devices including the Logitech G29, G920 and G923, Thrustmaster T300 RS, and Fanatec CSL DD. Do not assume that the PC list also applies to Xbox. Check the current list for your game and edition before buying: Forza Horizon 5 wheel setup and tuning.

Ubisoft publishes a separate supported-wheel guide for The Crew Motorfest. Use its platform-and-model details rather than treating a wheel listed for one platform as universally supported: The Crew Motorfest steering wheel support. Ubisoft says its team worked on a game-specific integration to make the game compatible and optimized for as many configurations as possible; that statement describes the integration effort, not a comparative performance test.

Match the wheel type to your priorities
A conventional wheel-and-pedal set
If you want a straightforward starting point, compare a compatible Logitech G29, G920 or G923 with a suitable Thrustmaster T248 or T300 RS. These are product-family candidates, not a tested ranking. The sources establish platform or game support in specified cases, but do not show which set feels better, lasts longer, or offers better value. Check the manufacturer’s page and the game’s current compatibility list for the precise SKU.
A direct-drive base
The Fanatec CSL DD is a direct-drive wheel-base option for someone considering Fanatec’s ecosystem rather than a conventional bundled wheel set. Forza’s listed support is for PC. Fanatec’s manual describes PC compatibility and makes Xbox use conditional on pairing the base with an officially licensed Xbox Fanatec steering wheel. Check the exact Thrustmaster version
Thrustmaster sells separate T248 PlayStation/PC and Xbox/PC versions, so “T248” alone is not enough to confirm a console match. The manufacturer’s pages document those variants and identify Forza Horizon 5 support; its T300 RS information covers PC, PS4 and PS5. Support can depend on the exact SKU and title, so verify before purchase:

Use this pre-purchase checklist
- Identify the game edition and platform. Separate PC support from console support, and consult the game publisher’s current list for that edition.
- Match the full model name. Check the console-specific variant, not just the product family name.
- Confirm any ecosystem conditions. For CSL DD on Xbox, verify that the steering wheel is an officially licensed Xbox Fanatec model.
- Check how you will run the game. If you use cloud gaming or streaming, account for Thrustmaster’s compatibility warning.
- Recheck manufacturer and game support close to purchase. Compatibility lists, firmware, and platform support may change.
What compatibility lists can—and cannot—tell you
An official support list is useful evidence that a named device is supported in a specified game and platform context. It does not establish a winner for comfort, force-feedback quality, reliability, or price. Without comparative testing, choose by confirmed compatibility, the type of setup you want, and the components or ecosystem you are prepared to use—not by an unsupported “best overall” claim.
A shifter or wheel stand may suit a particular setup, but neither is established as a requirement for open-world racing. Logitech identifies its Driving Force Shifter as an accessory; check its fit with the specific wheel before treating it as part of a setup: Logitech Driving Force racing wheels.
