There is no single best replacement for QuickBooks Time. The right choice depends on whether you need tracked hours for client billing or employee punches for payroll, and on whether your QuickBooks setup includes QuickBooks Payroll. For project and client hours, shortlist Clockify and Toggl Track. For shift-based attendance, look at Buddy Punch or Connecteam, which also covers scheduling. Harvest fits teams that bill clients directly from tracked time. Clockify needs the closest QuickBooks check before you commit, because its standard integration does not work with QuickBooks accounts where payroll is enabled.
This guide explains what QuickBooks Time costs, the questions that should decide a switch, and a shortlist with the caveats for each option. Prices and integration details reflect vendor pages as they read in early October 2026. Confirm them before you buy, because plan names, promotions and integrations change often.

What QuickBooks Time costs
QuickBooks Time is priced in two layers: a monthly base fee plus a per-user charge. Intuit’s US pricing page listed the following list prices in early October 2026. Each plan includes one admin.
| Plan | Monthly base fee | Per user, per month | Included admins |
|---|---|---|---|
| Time Premium | $20 | $10 | 1 |
| Time Elite | $40 | $12 | 1 |
Both plans require an active QuickBooks Online account. Intuit’s pricing page states: “A QuickBooks Online account is required to use QuickBooks Time.” Intuit has also shown promotional discounts on this page. A promotion that has ended is not a current price, so treat the list prices above as the baseline and count any offer only if it is active when you buy.
#1 Best Overall
- Streamlined Scheduling & Auto Time Tracking: Effortlessly manage shifts (including overnight schedules) with auto-calculated work hours. Real-time punch detection ensures accurate attendance records, simplifying admin tasks without complex setup.
- Fast & Reliable Fingerprint Recognition: Advanced sensor authenticates wet/dry fingerprints in 0.5 seconds, delivering quick, secure clock-ins 24/7. Consistent performance reduces wait times for all shifts.
- Flexible Payroll Sync: Align tracked hours with any payroll cycle (monthly/bi-weekly/weekly). Export timesheets via email or USB for error-free, fast payroll processing.
- Easy Attendance Editing & Real-Time Sync: Edit punches in seconds via the mobile app, with instant sync across the system (requires the same local network). Ensures accurate hours and simplifies payroll adjustments.
- Built-In Data Protection: Integrated backup safeguards attendance records during power outages, keeping data secure and recoverable to minimize disruptions.
What a monthly bill looks like
Using list prices before tax, ten paid users cost $120 per month on Time Premium ($20 + 10 × $10) and $160 per month on Time Elite ($40 + 10 × $12). Use the same seat count and feature set when you compare alternatives, or the numbers will not be comparable.
Decide which job you are replacing
Most failed tool switches happen because a team replaces a billing tool with a payroll-time tool, or the reverse. Sort your needs before you open any comparison page.
- Client or project billing: you need hours tied to clients, projects or invoices. Look first at Clockify, Toggl Track and Harvest.
- Attendance and payroll: you need clock-in and clock-out punches, breaks and overtime that feed payroll. Look first at Buddy Punch and Connecteam.
- Scheduling: you need shift planning, swaps or time off alongside timesheets. Connecteam is the broadest option in this group.
- Field controls: you need location checks or geofences. Confirm exactly when each product collects location (see the next section).
- QuickBooks product: you use QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Online Payroll, QuickBooks Desktop, or a mix. QuickBooks Time itself integrates with all three, as Intuit’s product page states: “QuickBooks Time integrates with QuickBooks Online (“QBO”), QuickBooks Online Payroll (“Payroll”) and QuickBooks Desktop (“Desktop”).” Each alternative must be checked separately against your product.
How QuickBooks Time uses location data
If location is part of your reason for switching, it helps to know how QuickBooks Time limits it:

- The mobile app can share location while a worker is clocked in.
- GPS-point accuracy requires cell service.
- Geofencing is an Elite feature. It may request location while a worker is off the clock, to determine whether the worker has entered a geofence.
Ask each alternative the same three questions: when does it collect location, whether it ever collects it off the clock, and how workers are told. Write the answers into your policy before rollout, so workers know what is collected.
Criteria for comparing alternatives
- Work type: project and client billing, or employee attendance, timesheets and scheduling.
- QuickBooks workflow: QBO, Desktop and payroll-enabled account support, and whether time exports, invoices or approved hours sync.
- Field controls: GPS, geofencing, kiosk mode, job or location assignment, and the location-data policy.
- Administration: approval workflows, overtime and break reports, time off, audit trails and scheduling.
- Total price: base fee, paid seats, any required accounting or payroll subscription, add-ons, contract terms and promotions.
No universal winner exists when team size and payroll setup are unknown. Start with the billing-or-payroll question, because the two jobs point to different products.
Alternatives worth shortlisting
Clockify
Clockify is a candidate for project and time tracking, especially for teams that want to control cost. Its pricing page lists per-seat subscriptions. The Standard tier was listed at $5.49 per seat per month billed annually, or $6.99 billed monthly, and the page says QuickBooks integration is included at Standard and above. Those prices were current on Clockify’s page in early October 2026.

The QuickBooks connection has a specific limit. Clockify’s help documentation says the standard integration path does not work with QuickBooks accounts where payroll is enabled. A separate paid payroll add-on path exists for that case, and its cost is additional. If your team uses QuickBooks Payroll, do not assume time will sync into payroll until you have confirmed your exact QuickBooks configuration with Clockify.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Toggl Track
Toggl’s own comparison article positions Toggl Track for agencies, in-house teams and freelancers who want time tracking and analytics. Its QuickBooks support article says the integration sends Track invoices to QuickBooks Online and is a paid feature. The two invoices are not directly linked, so a change in one does not update the other. Toggl Track is therefore a stronger fit for billing than for payroll time-clock replacement. If you use it, decide who corrects invoices on both sides.
Harvest
A 2026 comparison written by Harvest’s vendor positions the product for knowledge workers who bill clients based on tracked time. Confirm current plan details and approval features on Harvest’s own pricing and feature pages before you rely on a price or capability. Harvest is worth testing if invoicing from hours is the main job.

Buddy Punch
A vendor-written 2026 comparison positions Buddy Punch for shift-based teams. Before comparing it, verify its QuickBooks integration, scheduling, GPS add-ons and full pricing on the current vendor page. This guide did not find a verified price for Buddy Punch.
Connecteam
Connecteam is a broader employee-management suite. It describes schedules, live GPS tracking, automated timesheets and a QuickBooks Online integration. That breadth suits hourly or field teams that want time tracking and scheduling in one tool. It is also the option most likely to cost more than a time-only product, so compare it against the features you will actually use.

Why calculator estimates and list prices differ from what you pay
Connecteam warns that its pricing calculator estimates can vary with promotions, add-ons, contract terms, regional pricing, taxes and vendor changes. The same caution applies to every vendor on this list. A calculator’s default seat count is rarely your seat count, and its default feature set may not match the one you need. Ask each vendor for a written quote at the same seat count and with the same features, and include the cost of any accounting or payroll subscription you must keep.

- Choose two or three candidates based on the job. For billing, start with Clockify, Toggl Track or Harvest. For attendance, start with Buddy Punch. For a combined suite, start with Connecteam.
- For Clockify, confirm in its help documentation whether your QuickBooks account has payroll enabled and which path applies to you.
- Ask each vendor for a written quote at the same seat count, including add-ons, taxes and any required QuickBooks subscription.
- Write a location and monitoring policy for field controls, then run a pilot with one team through one full pay period before you cancel your current subscription.
