The best PvE-focused alternative to ARC Raiders is The Forever Winter if you want co-op scavenging under enormous war machines. Choose Gray Zone Warfare for realistic, mission-driven open-world tactics, or Escape from Duckov for a solo, top-down version of the extraction loop that is easier to learn. Hunt: Showdown 1896 belongs on the list only if you still want monsters and bounty objectives alongside human opponents.
ARC Raiders itself is not a permanently PvE-only game. Embark announced a limited PvE matchmaking-toggle beta running October 13–20, 2026. That test may suit players avoiding PvP during the stated window, but it should not be treated as a permanent mode. The alternatives below are the better choices when you want a reliable PvE structure rather than a temporary matchmaking experiment.

What “PvE extraction shooter” means in practice
An extraction shooter gives each raid a clear risk-and-reward loop: enter a dangerous area, search for useful equipment or resources, complete objectives, and reach an extraction point before you lose what you collected. PvE versions replace enemy players with AI factions, creatures, bosses, or environmental threats. You still make the important extraction decisions—how long to stay, whether to take a heavier fight, and when to leave—but another human squad is not necessarily waiting to ambush you.
That distinction matters because “PvE” can describe several very different experiences:
#1 Best Overall
- Includes Buddy Pass: Invite 2 friends to play with you for FREE for 14 days.
- Play alone or with friends from any platform in this 1- to 3-player co-op PvE FPS.
- 69 guns, 25 gadgets, 18 operators with progression levels, 12 large dynamic maps, 13 mutating enemies, and free post-launch content.
- Test your skills with 4 adjustable difficulty levels and a thrilling Endgame ranked mode.
- Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege Players: Get 4 EXCLUSIVE Epic gearsets across both games and instantly unlock all 18 Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Extraction operators in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege.
- Pure co-op PvE: every hostile unit is controlled by the game, while your group works together. This is the closest fit for players who dislike PvP.
- PvE-first online play: missions and AI combat dominate, but the game remains an evolving online product with server, progression, or matchmaking considerations.
- Solo PvE: you raid alone, often with a more forgiving perspective or a smaller scope.
- PvPvE: AI enemies and objectives matter, but human hunters remain a central threat. This is not a no-PvP solution.
The four games below cover those categories without pretending that they offer the same tone, camera, or level of pressure as ARC Raiders.
ARC Raiders: what you are actually replacing
ARC Raiders is an extraction adventure built around scavenging the surface, gathering resources, and getting back out. Its official platform listing includes Steam, the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and GeForce NOW, with cross-platform social play. The game’s colorful third-person presentation and giant machine threats make it more accessible than the most simulation-heavy extraction shooters, but its normal ecosystem has included the possibility of other players.
Embark’s announced PvE matchmaking-toggle beta is scheduled for October 13–20, 2026. Because it is explicitly a time-limited beta, players looking for a lasting PvE rule set should select a game whose core design already matches that preference. The recommendations differ mainly in how much they preserve ARC Raiders’ scavenging atmosphere versus its camera, realism, or social scale.
Best PvE extraction shooters at a glance
| Game | PvP exposure | Solo or squad | Perspective | Primary PvE threats | Progression and extraction focus | Status and availability evidence | US price information |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Forever Winter | None in its stated pure co-op PvE design | Co-op squad | Third-person tactical shooter | Brutal AI enemies divided into warring human factions, plus gargantuan war machines | Loot the dead and return with resources; tactical scavenging is central | Steam listing identifies Early Access; PC Gamer described it as pure co-op PvE on November 10, 2025 | Current US price not stated; verify the Steam storefront |
| Gray Zone Warfare | PvE-first; confirm the selected server and current rules before buying | Online squad play; solo suitability depends on mission and server conditions | First-person tactical shooter | AI forces and mission threats on a quarantined island | Large-scale missions, realistic weapons, and open-world operations | Official positioning calls it a PvE-first open-world tactical shooter; online product still evolving | Current US edition and price not stated; verify the publisher or Steam storefront |
| Escape from Duckov | None in the reported PvE design | Solo | Top-down | AI enemies encountered during raids | Scavenging, an upgradeable base, skill tree, crafting, and raid progression | Steam release; GamesRadar reported the PvE design on October 20, 2025 | $18 full price reported in 2025; historical figure, not a current guarantee |
| Hunt: Showdown 1896 | Central PvPvE; human hunters are part of every competitive match | Solo or co-op, while competing against other hunters | First-person | Bosses and other monsters | Track a boss, claim a bounty, and extract while rivals contest the same objective | Official store and Steam identify online PvP and co-op | Reliable current US base-game price not stated; DLC prices seen in a crawl ranged from $1.99 to $19.99 |
The table shows why there is no single “best” choice for everyone. The Forever Winter most closely replaces ARC Raiders’ co-op scavenging fantasy, Gray Zone Warfare replaces it with military realism, Duckov removes the squad requirement, and Hunt preserves extraction tension by keeping PvP.
The Forever Winter: the closest pure-PvE atmosphere
Why it is the first recommendation
The Forever Winter is the strongest match when your priority is a dangerous science-fiction world populated by machines and competing forces rather than by other players. PC Gamer described it on November 10, 2025 as “pure co-op PvE, with humans facing off against brutal AI enemies split into warring factions.” That wording captures the important difference from a conventional wave shooter: the battlefield is not simply a series of targets waiting for you. You enter a conflict already in progress and try to take advantage of it.
Its Steam community description presents a tactical shooter in which a squad loots the dead beneath gargantuan war machines. That combination—valuable salvage, hostile factions, and huge machines that can dominate an area—creates the same kind of uneasy decision-making that attracts people to ARC Raiders. You are not merely clearing rooms; you are judging whether the noise and attention from one fight make the next few minutes too dangerous.
Rank #2
- An action-packed cinematic horror experience currently unmatched by any game designed for Wii
- An all-new prequel chapter in the 'Dead Space' universe exclusive to the Wii
- A deep and thrilling all-new story, new characters, new weapons, new enemies, and new puzzles
- Co-operative multiplayer gameplay that allows you to team up to fight off the invasion, combine efforts on engineering puzzles, and more
- Intuitive controls scheme that allow you to strategically use the Wii Remote to dismember and freeze enemies, manipulate gravity with telekinesis, solve puzzles, and fight off attacks
How the raid loop differs from ARC Raiders
The Forever Winter is darker and more oppressive. Its world is built around a long-running war, so the atmosphere is grim rather than colorful. The emphasis is on moving with a squad, reading the behavior of AI factions, and looting opportunities created by battles between those factions. The giant machines are part of the environment’s scale and danger, not just a final boss waiting at the end of a mission.

That makes positioning and timing more important than reflexes alone. A group that fires at every visible target can attract attention from several directions. A patient group can let hostile factions weaken each other, take a smaller haul, and leave before the battlefield turns against it. The game therefore rewards communication and restraint in ways that feel natural to an extraction format.
Who should choose it
- Choose it if you want co-op without human enemies.
- Choose it if the appeal of ARC Raiders is the sight and sound of massive machines controlling a ruined science-fiction landscape.
- Choose it if you prefer a slower, more tactical scavenging rhythm to a bright, arcade-like adventure.
Important trade-offs
The game is identified as Early Access on Steam, so its systems and balance can change. Confirm the current Early Access status and price before purchase. It is also a squad-oriented experience: although a player may be able to attempt portions alone, the design described by the available sources is built around co-op teamwork. If you specifically want a self-contained solo campaign, Escape from Duckov is the safer recommendation.
Gray Zone Warfare: realistic, PvE-first open-world missions
What sets it apart
Gray Zone Warfare is the choice for players who want the extraction structure filtered through a military simulation. Its official description calls it a PvE-first open-world tactical shooter set on a quarantined island, and the Steam community description uses the same positioning. The setting supports larger operations and more realistic weapons than ARC Raiders’ colorful third-person adventure.
Rather than focusing primarily on a robot-haunted scavenging fantasy, Gray Zone Warfare asks you to operate in an extensive island environment, navigate mission objectives, and manage the consequences of realistic firefights. Distances, weapon handling, and the danger of exposing your position carry more weight than they do in a lighter action game.

Why it works for PvE-minded players
The PvE-first label makes the game a plausible destination for someone who wants AI missions to be the main event. The open world gives objectives room to unfold instead of compressing every encounter into a small arena. A player who enjoys planning routes, choosing equipment for a specific task, and completing military-style assignments will find a closer fit here than in a top-down or heavily stylized alternative.

“PvE-first” is deliberately not the same promise as “offline” or “guaranteed no-PvP.” Gray Zone Warfare is an online, evolving product. Server rules, available editions, and the way PvE servers or matchmaking work can change. Check the current server choices and restrictions in the store and in-game notices for your region before committing to it as a no-PvP purchase.
Who should choose it
- Choose it for realistic weapons and military missions rather than colorful robot combat.
- Choose it when an open-world map and longer operations matter more than a quick, approachable raid.
- Choose it if you expect to play online with a regular group and are comfortable with an evolving service.
Trade-offs versus ARC Raiders
The realism that attracts tactical players also raises the learning curve. A mistake in movement, exposure, or equipment selection can be more punishing than in ARC Raiders. The game’s online nature also means you must verify current PvE-server conditions rather than assuming that “PvE-first” guarantees a permanent, isolated environment. Its available platforms beyond the Steam information identified here are not established, so confirm compatibility for your system before buying.
Escape from Duckov: the best solo and approachable option
A compact PvE interpretation of the formula
Escape from Duckov is the strongest recommendation for a player who asks, “Can I play an extraction shooter alone without learning a complicated military simulator?” GamesRadar reported on October 20, 2025 that it is a PvE take on Escape from Tarkov with top-down raids, scavenging, an upgradeable base, a skill tree, and crafting. That combination makes the extraction loop easier to read: the camera provides more situational awareness, while the base and progression systems give each raid a clear long-term purpose.

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchYou enter a raid, collect useful items, decide how much risk to accept, and return to improve your character and base. The top-down view changes the feel of combat substantially. You can understand nearby threats and terrain more quickly than in a first-person simulation, which makes Duckov a practical starting point for someone curious about extraction games but intimidated by their usual complexity.
Why solo players should start here
Duckov is designed around solo PvE rather than requiring a coordinated squad. That removes scheduling and voice-chat demands and lets you set your own pace. The upgradeable base, skill tree, and crafting systems also provide goals between raids, so a failed run can still teach you something about equipment, routes, or progression.
GamesRadar reported a full price of $18 in 2025. That is a dated historical figure, not a guaranteed current US price. The same report said a Steam post from Team Soda indicated more than 500,000 copies sold by October 19, 2025. Both numbers describe the 2025 snapshot and should not be read as today’s price or lifetime sales total.
Rank #4
Who should choose it
- Choose it for solo-only PvE and a forgiving top-down perspective.
- Choose it if base upgrades, crafting, and a skill tree are as important to you as the extraction itself.
- Choose it if you want to learn the genre without the visual and tactical demands of a first-person military shooter.
What you give up
Duckov does not reproduce ARC Raiders’ third-person spectacle or giant-machine scale. Its presentation is more compact and its raids are designed around a single player. Players seeking dramatic co-op set pieces should start with The Forever Winter instead.

The extraction tension is real—but so are the rivals
Hunt: Showdown 1896 is a useful comparison because it combines substantial PvE objectives with one of the clearest human-versus-human extraction pressures. Crytek’s official store describes a match in which hunters track bosses, claim a bounty, and fight to extract. Steam identifies online PvP and co-op. Other hunters are therefore not an optional side activity; they are part of the central contest.
The PvE layer comes from monsters and bosses that you must locate and defeat. Killing a boss reveals a bounty, but carrying that bounty exposes your position and invites rival hunters to intercept you. The result is a tense risk calculation: a quiet approach can fail because another team arrives first, while a successful boss fight can become the beginning of the most dangerous part of the match.
When it is the right recommendation
- Choose it if you want monster hunting and bounty objectives more than robot scavenging.
- Choose it if the possibility of human ambushes makes extraction games exciting rather than frustrating.
- Choose it for solo or co-op play where every objective can turn into a contested fight.
When to avoid it
Do not pick Hunt: Showdown 1896 as a no-PvP substitute. Even excellent PvE skills cannot remove the human competition from its core loop. The Steam crawl exposed downloadable-content prices from $1.99 to $19.99, but not a dependable current US base-game price, so check the official store before purchase.

If you want to play alone
Pick Escape from Duckov. The top-down camera, base upgrades, skill tree, and crafting make it the least intimidating entry point and the clearest solo recommendation.
If you want PvE objectives plus human tension
Pick Hunt: Showdown 1896. It is the only recommendation here where rival players are a defining part of the experience, so it belongs in a PvPvE category rather than a pure-PvE one.
How to decide before you buy
- Set your PvP boundary. If any human ambush is unacceptable, limit your shortlist to The Forever Winter or Escape from Duckov, and investigate Gray Zone Warfare’s current server rules carefully.
- Choose your social commitment. The Forever Winter and Gray Zone Warfare are better suited to a regular group; Duckov is built for solo play; Hunt supports solo and co-op but keeps the competitive population in the match.
- Choose the camera and handling model. Third-person makes The Forever Winter closer to ARC Raiders, first-person makes Gray Zone Warfare and Hunt more immersive, and Duckov’s top-down view is the most readable.
- Decide how much realism you want. Gray Zone Warfare emphasizes military authenticity. The Forever Winter emphasizes science-fiction battlefield atmosphere. Duckov emphasizes accessibility and progression. Hunt emphasizes audio-aware tracking and contested bounty extraction.
- Check the current product state. Confirm Early Access status for The Forever Winter, the live online and server conditions for Gray Zone Warfare, the current US price for every game, and whether your platform is supported. Historical prices and sales figures can change or become outdated.
Common mistakes when replacing ARC Raiders with a PvE game
Assuming every “PvE” label means offline play
Gray Zone Warfare is described as PvE-first, not as an offline game. Online services can change their server structure, matchmaking, and progression rules. Read the current server and edition information instead of relying on a genre tag alone.
Expecting every extraction shooter to have the same pacing
The Forever Winter’s giant-machine battlefield, Gray Zone Warfare’s open-world military missions, Duckov’s top-down raids, and Hunt’s boss-and-bounty matches all create different rhythms. A game can share extraction mechanics with ARC Raiders while feeling slower, more methodical, or more competitive.
Ignoring the camera when choosing a substitute
Perspective changes how threats are read and how demanding combat feels. Players who specifically want ARC Raiders’ third-person movement should begin with The Forever Winter, while players willing to change perspective may prefer Gray Zone Warfare or Duckov for their distinct strengths.
Treating dated prices as permanent
The reported $18 price for Escape from Duckov came from 2025, and current US prices for The Forever Winter, Gray Zone Warfare, and Hunt: Showdown 1896 were not established consistently. Store pricing, editions, and regional taxes can change, so verify the current US listing immediately before purchase.
Bottom line
The Forever Winter is the best overall PvE alternative to ARC Raiders when you want co-op scavenging, AI factions, and enormous machines without human opponents. Gray Zone Warfare is better for realistic open-world missions, while Escape from Duckov is the clear solo choice. Select Hunt: Showdown 1896 only when the PvE objectives are appealing but PvP is still welcome. ARC Raiders’ October 13–20, 2026 PvE matchmaking-toggle beta may offer a temporary way to play with fewer concerns about rivals, but it does not replace choosing a game designed around your preferred PvE experience.
