This distinction matters more than any television preset. A setting cannot make an unsupported game edition run, and a PS4 title being playable on PS5 does not automatically make it a native current-generation release.

What “best settings” can responsibly mean for RDR2
For RDR2, “best” is display-dependent rather than a single set of numbers. A television with different HDR behavior, black-level handling, brightness, viewing distance, and room lighting can require different choices from a monitor or projector. The official compatibility listings confirm the playable edition, but they do not publish an objectively best in-game picture, HDR, or control configuration.

There is also no documented basis here for promising a particular frame rate, resolution, sharper image, or HDR result after changing PS5 output settings. In particular, lowering the console’s output resolution should not be presented as a proven way to increase RDR2’s frame rate or improve its sharpness.

How to set up RDR2 on PS5 without guessing
The following process keeps the parts you can verify separate from assumptions about a hidden or undocumented PS5 upgrade.
- Confirm the edition. Check that your copy is the PS4 version of Red Dead Redemption 2. A physical PS4 copy is the edition identified as playable on PS5; a disc-drive PS5 is required for a physical disc. Do not label that copy a PS5-native release.
- Update the console and game normally. Allow the PS5 and the installed game to finish their ordinary updates. An update may improve compatibility, but the compatibility evidence cited here does not promise a new graphics mode.
- Record your current display setup. Note whether the television or monitor is using SDR or HDR, its picture preset, and any manufacturer processing you deliberately enabled. This gives you a known point to return to if a change looks worse.
- Use only the picture controls the game actually presents. If RDR2 shows calibration screens or picture controls in its own menus, follow the on-screen instructions and judge them on your display from your normal seating position. Do not substitute values copied from another television.
- Make one change at a time. Change a single display or game option, then look at the same dark interior, bright sky, and skin tones before changing anything else. This prevents several adjustments from masking which one caused a problem.
- Keep the console output consistent while evaluating. Do not change resolution, HDR output, and television processing simultaneously. The official information available here does not establish that a lower output resolution benefits RDR2 performance.
- Save a usable baseline. If the image becomes washed out, crushed in shadows, or uncomfortable to view, restore the previous value rather than chasing a universal number. Your baseline is more useful than an unsupported internet preset.
Display-specific decisions
HDR versus SDR
HDR is not automatically better on every display. If your television or monitor has a well-calibrated HDR mode, compare it with your normal SDR mode using the same room lighting and viewing distance. If highlights clip, dark areas lose detail, or the picture looks dull, return to the display mode that preserves detail and comfort. The cited compatibility sources do not provide an RDR2 HDR calibration target, so a precise value would be an invention.

Television processing
Motion smoothing, artificial sharpness, dynamic contrast, and similar manufacturer features are display controls rather than confirmed RDR2 settings. Their names and behavior vary by manufacturer. Change them only when you understand what your display does, and avoid attributing their effect to a PS5 game mode that has not been documented.
Room lighting and viewing distance
A picture that looks correct in a bright showroom can look too dark at night. Evaluate the game in the conditions in which you normally play. Keep the console and display at the same settings while comparing scenes; otherwise you are comparing environments as much as settings.
Controls: choose for use, not a mythical optimum
The available official sources do not publish a tested RDR2 control layout. Use the game’s own control options to select the arrangement that matches your hand position, preferred aiming method, and accessibility needs. If you change a layout, play long enough to check ordinary movement, riding, aiming, and menu navigation before deciding whether it is comfortable. A recommendation that depends on a particular controller, sensitivity preference, or accessibility requirement cannot be called universally best without evidence.

Keep a note of any custom mapping before experimenting. That makes it easier to restore a familiar layout if a change interferes with muscle memory.

For Grand Theft Auto IV, the decisive fact is the media format. PlayStation’s backward-compatibility support page states that PS5 consoles do not support PS3 discs. The official material cited here does not establish every possible digital purchase, subscription catalog, or streaming route for GTA IV, and availability can vary by region and service. It would be inaccurate to turn the PS3-disc limitation into a blanket claim that no form of GTA IV can ever be accessed on PS5. Check the current listing and service terms for your country before assuming another route exists.
What not to do
- Do not spend time changing PS5 resolution or HDR settings to make an unsupported PS3 disc launch.
- Do not describe a PS3 disc as a PS5-compatible version.
