Choose Resolution Mode when you prefer higher graphic quality. Then set PS5 video output to the capabilities of your actual TV or monitor, calibrate HDR only when the display supports it, and use accessibility controls for readability and comfort. These are console-wide preferences: PlayStation does not state that every title in the Kingdom Hearts collections exposes both modes, or that every game uses 4K, HDR, VRR, or 120 Hz.
What the Kingdom Hearts collections include
The US PlayStation Store listing for KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I–III] identifies three products in the bundle: KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX-, KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind DLC. You can confirm the bundle scope on the official PlayStation Store page.

That listing establishes what is packaged together, not how each game renders on PS5. The collection contains games from different releases and technical generations, so it is unsafe to assume a single frame-rate cap, resolution, HDR implementation, or graphics menu applies to all of them. The settings below are therefore the best PS5-level choices, with a clear distinction between a console feature and a title-specific option.

PS5 lets you select a default preference for games that provide both performance and resolution modes. PlayStation describes the choice this way: “Make motion in your game smoother with performance mode, or have higher graphic quality in resolution mode.” That wording describes the general preset, not a measured result for a particular Kingdom Hearts release. Read the full menu explanation in PlayStation’s Game Presets support guide.
#1 Best Overall
- Quality Visuals: The VG270K 27" IPS monitor with 3840 x 2160 UHD resolution in a 16:9 aspect ratio presents stunning, high-quality images with excellent detail. The zero-frame design does away with the thick frames found on conventional monitors freeing up precious screen space.
- AMD FreeSync Premium Technology: Say “goodbye” to stuttering and tearing. With AMD FreeSync Premium, the monitor’s frames are synced with the graphics card’s frames, which eliminates screen tearing and provides the smoothest gaming experience.
- Quick Refresh Rate: Different content has different refresh rate and resolution requirements. If you are playing an FPS or racing game, you will need a monitor with a high refresh rate. However, if you are doing office work or streaming videos, a higher resolution will be more beneficial. With DFR technology, users can choose a higher resolution, or a higher refresh rate based on what is suitable for them.
- Responsive: Up to 0.5ms GTG (Gray to Gray) response time enhanced gamers’ in-game experience. No matter if the fast-moving action or any dramatic transitions will be rendered smoothly without the annoying effects of smearing or ghosting.
- ZeroFrame Design: With a Nitro VG270K monitor, you’ll want to see as much of the display as possible. Get more real estate with the near bezel-less design, allowing you to see more and do more. The ZeroFrame design lets you place multiple monitors next to each other for a seamless, almost uninterrupted view.
Set Performance Mode for motion
- From the PS5 home screen, open Settings.
- Select Saved Data and Game/App Settings.
- Open Game Presets.
- Choose Performance Mode or Resolution Mode.
- Select Performance Mode, then close Settings.
Use this preference when camera movement, panning, and character motion feel more important than maximum image quality. The preset only affects games programmed to offer the relevant choices. If a Kingdom Hearts title has no performance/resolution selector, this preference has no effect on that title.
Set Resolution Mode for image quality
Choose Resolution Mode in the same menu when you would rather preserve a higher-quality image than prioritize smoother motion. This can be the better fit for a large screen viewed from a short distance, a slower play style, or a player who notices image detail more than motion cadence. It still does not guarantee a particular output resolution: the game decides what its own modes do.
Why the preset cannot provide a universal Kingdom Hearts answer
- The preset is a PS5-wide default, not a forced setting for every game.
- PlayStation states that not all settings apply to all games.
- The official collection listing does not document individual frame-rate caps, render resolutions, HDR behavior, or in-game graphics toggles.
- A title may ignore the preset, expose only one mode, or use different names for its own options.
If a game displays its own graphics menu, treat that menu as the authoritative control for that title. Do not infer a frame rate or resolution from the PS5 preset label alone.
Match PS5 video output to your TV or monitor
PS5 supports 4K and HDR output, and PlayStation documents 1440p output on compatible displays. Variable refresh rate (VRR) and automatic low-latency mode (ALLM) depend on compatible equipment, including a suitable HDMI connection and, for VRR, a compatible HDMI 2.1 VRR display. The result also varies by game. PlayStation’s feature overview explains these dependencies at PS5 features.

Check what the console is actually detecting
- Open Settings from the PS5 home screen.
- Select Screen and Video.
- Open Video Output.
- Review Resolution, HDR, VRR, and 120 Hz Output options as they appear for your display.
Leave Resolution on Automatic unless you have a specific reason to select another supported value. Automatic lets the console negotiate an output your display reports as compatible. If you deliberately choose 1440p, use the built-in 1440p test in the Video Output area when available and keep the setting only if the result is stable and looks correct.
When a 4K display is useful
A 4K television or monitor can accept the PS5’s 4K output, but that does not prove that a particular Kingdom Hearts game renders internally at 4K. The display may show an upscaled signal, and the game may use its own fixed resolution. Consider 4K a display capability, not a promised per-game specification.
When 1440p makes sense
1440p can be appropriate for a compatible 1440p monitor or television that produces a cleaner result at its native resolution than by scaling another signal. Compatibility is display-specific. If the console’s test reports a problem, return to Automatic or the display’s documented supported mode rather than forcing 1440p.
VRR and ALLM are optional features
- VRR: Can coordinate refresh timing on a compatible display, but a game must also support a useful VRR range. No official source cited here confirms VRR behavior for any individual Kingdom Hearts entry.
- ALLM: Allows a compatible television to switch to a low-latency picture mode. It changes the TV’s behavior, not the game’s rendering resolution or frame-rate limit.
- 120 Hz Output: A 120 Hz-capable display and cable do not mean a Kingdom Hearts title runs at 120 frames per second. Enable it only when your display setup is stable and you have another reason to use it.
For a straightforward setup, leave optional features on Automatic or their default supported setting. Turn them off only to troubleshoot handshake problems, flicker, intermittent black screens, or an unexpectedly altered television picture.

Set HDR without making SDR games look wrong
HDR should be calibrated on the display you actually use. In PS5 Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output, the HDR choice commonly distinguishes Always On from On When Supported. PlayStation explains that supported-only mode leaves non-HDR content in SDR, while Always On converts unsupported content to HDR output. The exact labels can change with system software or language, so confirm the current wording on your console.
Use On When Supported as the cautious default
Select On When Supported when you want HDR output only for content that identifies itself as HDR. This avoids applying a conversion to SDR menus or games that were not authored for HDR. It is the safer choice when you do not know whether a particular Kingdom Hearts title has native HDR support.
Use Always On only by preference
Always On can be useful if you prefer the way your television handles converted SDR content, but it is not a quality guarantee. Conversion may produce a picture you like, or it may make menus and older artwork look less natural. Compare both choices with the same game and display rather than assuming one is universally superior.
Calibrate the console and the television together
- Enable the television or monitor’s HDR mode for the HDMI input connected to the PS5, if the display requires a per-input setting.
- On PS5, open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output and set HDR to your preferred supported-only or Always On behavior.
- Run the PS5 HDR adjustment screens and follow the on-screen instructions for brightness and clipping.
- Check a game menu and a dark scene. If highlights are blown out, blacks are crushed, or the image looks grey, repeat calibration with the display’s picture mode fixed rather than changing several controls at once.
Do not claim that every game in the collection is HDR-enabled. The available official material documents the PS5 feature and its output choices, not HDR support for each bundled title.

Accessibility settings for text, colour and motion
PS5 includes display and text controls that can make menus and subtitles easier to read. PlayStation lists text size, bold text, high contrast, colour correction, and reduced motion among its accessibility settings in How to use accessibility settings on PS5 consoles.
Improve readability
- Text Size: Increase it when menu labels or system notifications are difficult to read from your normal seating distance.
- Bold Text: Use it when larger text alone does not provide enough separation from the background.
- High Contrast: Try it for menus that blend into artwork or for players who need stronger foreground/background separation.
These are system accessibility controls. A game’s own subtitle size, dialogue box, or font options may still be separate and may not exist in every entry.
Use colour correction carefully
Colour correction can help distinguish interface elements when certain hues are difficult to separate. Test it with the game’s map, command menus, and cinematic subtitles because a correction that helps one colour pair can make another less distinct.

Understand the HDR trade-off of colour inversion
PS5’s colour-inversion option turns HDR off. That is a significant trade-off for anyone using an HDR display: inversion may improve accessibility, but it removes HDR output while enabled. If you need HDR for another game or application, return to the accessibility setting and disable inversion before troubleshooting picture quality.

- Ultra-thin bezel: Designed with a sleek, modern aesthetic and an ash white finish, this display features ultra-thin bezels for a refined, minimalist design.
Reduce motion when visual effects are uncomfortable
Reduce Motion can make system transitions less animated. It does not establish a different frame-rate mode for a Kingdom Hearts game and should not be treated as a performance optimization. Use it for comfort, not as a way to unlock smoother gameplay.

| Player or setup | Game Preset | Video output approach | HDR approach | Accessibility focus |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Motion-sensitive player | Performance Mode, where the title offers it | Automatic resolution; leave VRR/ALLM on supported automatic settings | On When Supported unless you prefer conversion | Reduce Motion only if system animation is uncomfortable |
| Large 4K television focused on detail | Resolution Mode, where available | Automatic 4K negotiation; verify the TV input accepts HDR | Calibrate, then use On When Supported or your tested preference | Increase text size or high contrast if menus are distant |
| 1440p gaming monitor | Choose by motion-versus-quality preference | Use Automatic first; test 1440p only if the monitor is compatible | Use HDR only if the monitor supports it and calibration looks correct | Bold text and colour correction can help on compact screens |
| SDR television | Choose by preference when a title offers both modes | Automatic output; do not expect HDR controls to add real HDR capability | Keep HDR off or use the console’s supported behavior for the display | Text size and high contrast remain available |
| Accessibility-first setup | Whichever mode is visually comfortable | Use the stable resolution that is easiest to read | Remember that colour inversion disables HDR | Combine text size, bold text, high contrast, colour correction, and Reduce Motion as needed |
The table describes decision patterns, not guarantees about how any individual Kingdom Hearts release implements its graphics. If a game’s own menu conflicts with a console preference, evaluate the game’s control directly.
Troubleshoot picture or motion problems
The game does not look smoother after choosing Performance Mode
- Confirm that the title actually offers performance and resolution modes.
- Check for an in-game graphics or display menu; the console preset cannot create a mode the developer did not include.
- Do not judge from a single camera movement. The official PS5 description is a general behavior, not a measured Kingdom Hearts frame-rate claim.
- Try the same scene after restarting the game so its launch-time settings are re-read.
The image is soft on a 4K television
- Open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output and verify the detected resolution and signal information.
- Make sure the television is on the HDMI input connected to the PS5 and that its picture mode is not applying an unusual scaling or zoom.
- Test Automatic resolution before forcing 4K or 1440p.
- Remember that a 4K output signal does not prove that the game renders internally at 4K.
HDR looks washed out, too dark, or overly bright
- Confirm that HDR is enabled for the correct television input.
- Compare On When Supported with Always On, changing one option at a time.
- Run the PS5 HDR adjustment again with the television’s picture mode fixed.
- Check whether colour inversion is enabled; PlayStation states that inversion turns HDR off.
VRR causes flicker or intermittent signal loss
- Verify that the display is a compatible VRR model and that the HDMI path supports the required feature.
- Turn VRR off temporarily to determine whether the symptom disappears.
- Return other output settings to Automatic before testing again.
- Do not assume the game benefits from VRR simply because the display supports it; title support and behavior are separate questions.
The TV switches picture modes unexpectedly
ALLM can prompt a compatible television to enter its low-latency mode. If that picture mode looks worse for a particular display, compare the result with ALLM disabled. This changes the television preset, not the Kingdom Hearts game’s graphics settings.
What is not established for the collection
The official sources available for this guide do not provide a title-by-title table of frame rates, render resolutions, HDR support, VRR ranges, 120 Hz modes, or graphics toggles for the bundled games. Consequently, there is no evidence-based universal setting such as “every Kingdom Hearts game runs at 60 fps in 4K HDR.” Avoid treating community observations or one game’s behavior as a specification for the entire collection.
The reliable boundary is straightforward: use PS5’s Performance/Resolution preference according to your priority when a game supports it; match output to the display you own; calibrate HDR rather than forcing it blindly; and use accessibility controls for comfort. For any claim about a specific title, look for a title-specific official update or an in-game option instead of extrapolating from the collection name.
Quick Recap
Pre-launch checklist
- Confirm which Kingdom Hearts package or individual game you are starting; the collection combines HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind DLC.
- Set Game Presets to Performance Mode for smoother motion or Resolution Mode for higher graphic quality, knowing the game may not implement either mode.
