1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor most PS5 and PS5 Pro desk setups, choose a monitor that explicitly supports 4K at 120Hz over HDMI; add VRR if the exact model supports it on PlayStation. If you want to spend less, a 1440p display can deliver 120Hz, but it is a resolution trade-off—not a 4K substitute. Sony’s console output tops out at 120Hz, so a monitor’s 240Hz rating is mainly useful if you also connect a PC.
At a glance: picks by priority
| What matters most | Monitor | Why consider it | Important trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Premium 32-inch 4K | Alienware AW3225QF | TechRadar’s overall pick: a 32-inch curved QD-OLED with 4K, 240Hz, two HDMI 2.1 ports and DisplayHDR True Black 400. | Its price is high, and the 240Hz ceiling is more relevant to PC than PS5. [TechRadar, updated August 26, 2026] |
| Premium 27-inch 4K | ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM | RTINGS’ top PS5/PS5 Pro pick; it accepts 4K/120Hz console output. | Its 240Hz maximum exceeds the console’s output ceiling. [RTINGS, accessed October 7, 2026] |
| Lower-cost 4K/120Hz | Dell S2725QS | RTINGS lists it as a budget 4K option, supporting up to 4K/120Hz including VRR. | RTINGS notes weaker HDR and picture quality, plus more motion blur than stronger gaming options. [RTINGS, accessed October 7, 2026] |
| Lower-cost 1440p/120Hz | KOORUI S2721PM | RTINGS identifies it as a budget PS5 option with 1440p/120Hz and VRR support. | It does not support 4K/120Hz over HDMI 2.1 bandwidth. [RTINGS, accessed October 7, 2026] |
| PlayStation-branded 1440p | Sony 27-inch QHD Gaming Monitor | Sony announced HDR, Auto HDR Tone Mapping, VRR and up to 120Hz for PS5 and PS5 Pro; compatible PC and Mac systems can use up to 240Hz. | Sony described a planned 2026 U.S. and Japan launch; the announcement does not establish current availability, a retail date or price. These are category picks from two different editorial guides, not a single shared ranking. TechRadar names the Alienware AW3225QF its overall choice, while RTINGS names the ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM its best PS5/PS5 Pro monitor. The right choice depends on size, price, image priorities and whether the display will also serve a PC.

What a PS5 monitor needs to support
Check the actual HDMI signal, not just the version label
Sony says PS5 supports HDMI 2.1 and 4K 120Hz video output. That does not make the words “HDMI 2.1” on a monitor listing a guarantee that every input accepts the signal you want. Confirm the manufacturer’s specifications for the particular HDMI port and resolution/refresh combination, and look for model-specific PS5 VRR support. Sony’s PS5 resolution guidance also recommends checking the display’s 4K/120Hz capability, firmware, correct HDMI input, cable, direct connection and console output settings.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Understand the 120Hz console ceiling
A 240Hz monitor can be a sensible shared PC-and-console purchase, but it does not make a PS5 output above 120Hz. For console play, prioritize support for the desired 4K or 1440p signal at up to 120Hz. The extra refresh headroom is a PC co-use benefit, not a promise of higher PS5 frame rates.
#1 Best Overall
- QHD Resolution (2560 x 1440) has 1.7 times the pixel density of Full HD for incredibly detailed pinsharp images
- HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadow for added depth - making every scene feel more vivid and realistic
- The 180Hz refresh rate minimizes lag for gameplay with ultra-smooth action. Plus, the 1ms response time helps capture your moves in real-time, allowing you to react fast for gaming precision
- AMD FreeSync reduces choppiness, screen lag and image tearing, ensuring that your fast-paced, complex in-game action is stable with minimal stutter
- Ergonomic stand allows for tilt, pivot and height adjustments to maximize gaming comfort
Treat VRR as a separate compatibility check
VRR can help reduce tearing, but verify that the exact monitor supports it with PS5 over the input and signal you plan to use. Do not infer console VRR support solely from a broad monitor feature label; Sony’s setup guidance and the monitor’s model-specific specifications are the useful checks.
Choose 4K or 1440p based on your trade-off
Choose 4K/120Hz if image detail is the priority
A monitor confirmed to accept 4K at 120Hz over HDMI is the strongest fit when you want the PS5’s 4K output and high refresh in one setup. If you want to keep cost down, RTINGS’ Dell S2725QS is a budget-oriented option in this category, with the stated compromise in HDR, picture quality and motion handling.

Choose 1440p/120Hz to reduce cost
A 1440p screen can still provide a high-refresh console setup. RTINGS’ KOORUI S2721PM pick supports 1440p/120Hz and VRR, but not 4K/120Hz over HDMI 2.1 bandwidth. That makes it a value compromise for someone who prefers refresh and price over native 4K—not an equivalent replacement for a 4K monitor.
Consider 8K only for a specific PS5 Pro setup
Sony says PS5 Pro 8K output requires an 8K/60Hz display that supports Display Stream Compression (DSC), and VRR is disabled during 8K output. This is a constrained use case, not a general reason to buy an 8K monitor for PlayStation.

Compare image quality, size and shared use
Panel type and HDR affect the picture
TechRadar’s buying guide presents OLED and QD-OLED as strong choices for contrast, color and response, while IPS and VA involve different color and contrast characteristics. Those are broad editorial descriptions, not a universal measured ranking of every panel. For HDR, compare the display’s actual performance and local-dimming behavior rather than relying on an HDR badge alone; RTINGS flags picture and HDR compromises on its budget 4K pick.
Match the screen to your desk
TechRadar’s guidance frames screen size up to about 32 inches as a desk-friendly range to consider and curved versus flat as largely a matter of preference. Think about your viewing distance and whether a larger panel suits the space before choosing a premium 32-inch model over a 27-inch one.

Account for PC use without mistaking it for a console benefit
If the same display will connect to a gaming PC, a 240Hz model may have value beyond PlayStation. TechRadar’s Alienware AW3225QF and RTINGS’ ASUS PG27UCDM both have 240Hz ceilings, but the PS5 remains limited to 120Hz output. Choose the higher ceiling for the combined setup, not because it changes the console’s maximum.

How to read the recommendations
TechRadar and RTINGS reach different top-pick conclusions: TechRadar favors the Alienware AW3225QF overall, while RTINGS selects the ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM. Their picks serve different sizes and buyer priorities, so neither ranking alone makes a universal winner. Use the category table to narrow the choice, then verify the precise model’s port support, VRR behavior and regional availability before buying.
