If you’re waiting for a particular game to arrive on PS5—or for a PlayStation game to be ported elsewhere—there’s no need to wait to play something good. These eight PS5 action-adventure picks are available now, spanning open-world exploration, fast combat, platforming, and story-first journeys. “New ports” here means an unspecified future release: none of these recommendations is presented as a newly announced port.
How to choose your next PS5 adventure
Start with the kind of play you want, rather than treating this selection as a ranking. Some games give you a large world to explore; others focus on levels, traversal, or a tightly directed story. The list also ranges from superhero and historical settings to science fiction and myth. If you want a familiar series, check whether a game continues an earlier story; if you want an easy entry point, favor a standalone-feeling adventure.

PS5 action-adventure games to play now
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: superhero combat and city traversal
Pick this if swinging through a city and switching between two heroes sounds more appealing than a wilderness expedition. The single-player open-world game stars Peter Parker and Miles Morales, making it the clearest fit here for superhero action in a modern urban setting. TechRadar’s guide includes an Amazon purchase link for the game; check the current listing and edition before buying: TechRadar’s best PS5 games guide.
Horizon Forbidden West: a broad, narrative-led adventure
For a large world and a story centered on Aloy, Horizon Forbidden West is the natural choice. It expands the world and gameplay of Horizon Zero Dawn, so it is most appealing if you want a substantial continuation rather than a compact, level-based adventure. TechRadar’s PS5 games guide also describes the game and its place in the series.
#1 Best Overall
- Stunning graphics and gameplay, explore the wild and striking lands around Mount Yotei on foot or horseback. Travel picturesque parts of northern Japan through grasslands, snowy ridges, fields of wildflowers, and more.
- Discover renegade combat, engage in lawless katana combat and battles with adversaires. Train with various sensei as you find and learn to use each new weapon.
- An unconventional story and journey, take in the cultural beauty of Japan, bathe in an onsen, visit shrines to pray, try Sumi-e painting, and so much more.
- Choose your weapon, battle Atsu's opponents as you see fit, with levelled-up dual katanas, odachi, kusarigama and other new weapons.
Ghost of Yōtei: a historical warrior’s journey
Choose Ghost of Yōtei for a historical setting rather than superhero spectacle or science-fiction. PlayStation’s catalog places the beginning of Atsu’s story in 1603, in the lands around Mount Yōtei. See PlayStation’s game catalog for the publisher’s title information.
Stellar Blade: post-apocalyptic action
Stellar Blade suits players looking for a story-driven action adventure in a post-apocalyptic setting. It offers a different flavor from the historical and mythic options here, while keeping the emphasis on action and narrative. PlayStation’s catalog lists the game.
Rank #2
- Feel your journey through the Norse realms, made possible by immersive haptic feedback and adaptive trigger functionality.
- Take advantage of multidirectional 3D Audio; hear enemies approaching from any direction. (3D audio with stereo headphones (analog or USB))
- Bask in the beautiful worlds you travel through, brought to life by precise art direction and arresting attention to detail.
- Switch between full 4K resolution at a targeted 30 frames per second, or dynamic resolution upscaled to 4K at a targeted 60fps. (4K resolution requires a compatible 4K TV or display)
God of War Ragnarök: Norse myth and a continuing story
God of War Ragnarök follows Kratos and Atreus as they travel across the Nine Realms under the threat of Ragnarök. Choose it for mythic stakes and a journey focused on its central characters. It continues their story, so readers who value context may prefer to begin with the earlier God of War entry. PlayStation’s catalog provides the publisher’s description.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart: colorful, brisk action
If you want a lighter change of pace, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is a colorful adventure built around hopping between dimensions. It is a strong match for players after brisk action rather than a grounded historical setting or a dense, solemn story. Find it in PlayStation’s catalog.

Astro Bot: platforming, secrets, and surprises
Astro Bot puts exploration and platforming at the center. It is the pick for players who want to move through playful spaces, uncover secrets, and enjoy surprises rather than focus on an open-world narrative. PlayStation’s catalog lists the game.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach: a story-first journey
For a more story-led option, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach follows Sam and his allies as they work to save humanity. Its emphasis makes it a better match for players seeking a directed narrative journey than a colorful platformer or a straightforward superhero power fantasy. Check PlayStation’s catalog for the publisher’s listing.

What “new ports” means—and what has been announced
The phrase can mean either games coming to PS5 from another platform or PlayStation games heading to other systems. Without a named game and destination platform, it does not identify a particular release to wait for. The recommendations above are current PS5 options, not predictions about which titles will be ported.
There are announced PS5 adventures on the horizon. PlayStation announced Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis for 2026, describing it as a reimagining of Lara Croft’s 1996 debut, and Tomb Raider: Catalyst for 2027, a new adventure set in Northern India. Those announcements establish PS5 releases, not a wider port schedule. Read PlayStation.Blog’s Tomb Raider announcement.
Release status can change. PlayStation’s June 2026 State of Play post gave September 24, 2026 as the launch date for Control Resonant and October 1, 2026 for Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered; both dates have passed as of October 7, 2026. The same post announced God of War Laufey for PS5 without giving a release date. Check current listings before treating any of those games as upcoming or available. Consult PlayStation.Blog’s June 2026 State of Play post.
Days Gone Remastered is another example of why it helps to distinguish a release from a future promise: it was announced for PS5 in February 2025 and has since been released. The remaster added graphical improvements, Tempest 3D Audio and DualSense features, as well as Horde Assault and Permadeath modes. It is not an upcoming port. Read PlayStation.Blog’s announcement.
