What should you prioritize before buying?
Brightness for the room
For living-room viewing with some ambient light, brightness matters; RTINGS says the Epson CO-FH02 is suited to casual living-room use. For a dark room, contrast can matter more to perceived movie depth. Brightness and contrast describe different things, so a larger lumen figure alone does not establish that a projector will produce the better film image. Lumen figures from different manufacturers or measurement standards should not be treated as directly comparable.
Native resolution, not just the signal a projector accepts
Check the projector’s native resolution when image detail is important. Epson lists the CO-FH02 as Full HD 1080p. By contrast, ViewSonic’s PA503X is specified at 4,000 lumens but native XGA 1024×768. That higher brightness figure does not make it a like-for-like home-movie alternative, and the official page does not verify that its current price is below $500. Gaming lag and supported features
Low input lag is useful for responsive play, but it is only one part of gaming suitability. RTINGS’ reason for selecting the Nebula P1i is its low lag at 1080p/60Hz; its listed limits include no 120Hz gaming and no acceptance of 4K signals. If you need a particular resolution or refresh rate, verify that the projector supports it rather than inferring support from a gaming label.
Portability and power
A portable model can be easier to move or set up outdoors, but portability can involve trade-offs in brightness or image quality compared with a plug-in projector. Compare the specific model against the room, screen size, and power access you have; the available comparisons do not establish one portable projector as the best fit for every setup.

Streaming and connections
Epson lists HDMI and USB connections, a 5 W speaker, and an included Android TV streaming stick for the CO-FH02. Those built-in features may reduce the need for separate devices, but check the connections and audio setup you actually need. Is the Epson CO-FH02 worth using the full budget?
It is a sensible starting point if your priority is a Full HD projector for casual living-room viewing and you can spend right up to $500. Epson’s US listing gives it 3,000 lumens for both color and white brightness, HDMI and USB, a 5 W speaker, and an Android TV streaming stick. The listed $499.99 price leaves essentially no room under the cap, so consider taxes and any accessories separately. What should you plan for outdoor viewing?
Plan to watch after dark and manage ambient light; a portable projector should not be treated as a daylight solution.
