There is no single best pro controller for both PC and Xbox. Choose by the connection you need first: the GameSir G7 SE is a wired Xbox/Windows option with Hall-effect sticks and two rear buttons; the 8BitDo Ultimate 3 adds 2.4G wireless on both Xbox and PC, TMR sticks, trigger stops, and a dock; and the Xbox Elite Series 2 remains the most extensive physical-customization choice. The 8BitDo Ultimate 3-mode is different from the Ultimate 3 and 3E: it is wired on Xbox, although it is wireless on Windows PC.

Start with the connection you actually need
“Works on Xbox and PC” does not necessarily mean wireless on both. The connection mode can change by platform, and that distinction is more important than a feature list if your console setup has no convenient cable run.

If a cable is acceptable on Xbox
The GameSir G7 SE is wired on Xbox and Windows. Its detachable 3 m USB-C cable gives you reach without a battery to charge. The 8BitDo Ultimate 3-mode is also wired on Xbox, while its 2.4G link is intended for Windows PC; Apple and Android support is listed through Bluetooth.
Why the Ultimate names matter
The Ultimate 3-mode, Ultimate 3 and Ultimate 3E are separate products. Do not assume that a listing titled “Ultimate 3” has the same radio modes as “Ultimate 3-mode.” Check the suffix, the included receiver and the platform row in the current specification sheet before ordering.
Hall-effect and TMR sticks: what they change
Conventional analog sticks use potentiometers, where a physical wiper moves over a resistive track. Hall-effect and TMR designs sense magnetic changes instead. Manufacturers position both as alternatives that avoid the constant contact associated with potentiometer tracks, which can reduce one common source of drift.

A magnetic sensor does not prevent every failure: springs, gates, buttons, firmware, calibration, contamination and impact can still cause problems. Treat “anti-drift” language as the maker’s design claim, and retain the retailer’s return and warranty information.

Hall-effect models in this comparison
- The GameSir G7 SE specifies Hall-effect sticks and analog triggers.
- The 8BitDo Ultimate 3-mode specifies Hall-effect joysticks and triggers.
- The Ultimate 3 and Ultimate 3E use TMR sticks and Hall-effect impulse triggers.
What TMR does not tell you
TMR identifies the sensing method; it does not by itself establish a controller’s tension, dead zone, calibration stability or measured latency. Those characteristics require consistent testing, and no uniform independent test is established for these models here.
Controller-by-controller buying guide
GameSir G7 SE: the straightforward wired choice
The G7 SE supports Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Windows 10/11 through a wired connection. It includes a detachable 3 m USB-C cable, Hall-effect sticks, analog triggers and two mappable back buttons with quick latches. Profile switching, software customization and a 3.5 mm audio jack are built in. There is no battery, so it cannot run wirelessly.
This is the sensible fit when you want magnetic-sensor sticks, rear controls and a simple plug-in setup at both platforms. It is not the right pick if you specifically need wireless Xbox play. A manufacturer-site regular price of $44.99 was displayed when the product page was accessed; that figure is volatile and should not be treated as a permanent market price.
8BitDo Ultimate 3-mode: PC wireless, Xbox cable
The 3-mode version connects to Xbox through wired USB, Windows PC through 2.4G wireless or USB, and Apple or Android devices through Bluetooth. It lists Hall-effect joysticks and triggers, rear buttons, three profiles, a charging dock and Ultimate Software X.

Its specification table lists 250 Hz polling in wired mode and 200 Hz in wireless mode. Those are polling figures, not a complete controller-to-game latency measurement. An independent Windows Central review also identifies the lack of wireless Xbox connectivity, so do not buy this model expecting the console to use its 2.4G receiver.
8BitDo Ultimate 3: the broadest wireless feature set
The Ultimate 3 is officially licensed for Xbox and lists 2.4G wireless or wired USB on both Xbox and PC. It combines TMR joysticks with Hall-effect impulse triggers that have two trigger stops, two rear buttons, L4/R4 fast bumpers, adjustable stick tension and a charging dock. It also lists 6-axis motion control on PC, a 1,000 mAh rechargeable battery and up to 20 hours of play time.
8BitDo specifies up to 1,000 Hz polling on PC only and says that rate is not supported on Xbox. The qualification matters: a higher report rate can reduce the interval between controller reports, but it does not describe wireless radio delay, USB scheduling, game-engine sampling, display response or the entire end-to-end path.

8BitDo Ultimate 3E: similar core, different model
The Ultimate 3E also lists TMR sticks, Hall-effect impulse triggers with two trigger stops, two back buttons, L4/R4 bumpers, 2.4G and wired Xbox/PC connections, a USB-C adapter and an integrated wireless-charging dock. Its page lists 6-axis motion control on PC and up to 1,000 Hz in wired or wireless PC mode.

That 1,000 Hz figure is qualified by 8BitDo as ideal-environment laboratory data. It is not an independent latency result and does not apply to Xbox use. Because the 3E is a distinct SKU, verify the package contents, current regional availability and firmware support before treating it as interchangeable with the Ultimate 3.
Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2: the customization specialist
Microsoft’s Elite Series 2 emphasizes physical adjustment and first-party integration. It offers adjustable-tension thumbsticks, shorter hair-trigger locks, a wrap-around rubberized grip, interchangeable thumbstick toppers, a swappable D-pad and interchangeable paddles. Profiles and app-based mapping let you save different layouts, while Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth cover console and PC connections; USB is also available.
Microsoft rates the internal rechargeable battery for up to 40 hours per charge, while warning that actual life depends on usage and other factors. The cited Microsoft specification page does not advertise Hall-effect sticks, so choose it for its adjustable mechanics and ecosystem integration rather than assuming magnetic sensing.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesBack buttons, paddles and fast bumpers
Rear controls let you move actions such as jump, crouch, reload or sprint off the face buttons so your thumbs can stay on the sticks. The number alone does not determine whether a controller suits you; placement, travel, accidental presses and the ability to remap each control matter.

- The Ultimate 3 and 3E add two back buttons plus L4/R4 fast bumpers, giving more reachable inputs than a two-button layout.
- The Elite Series 2 uses interchangeable rear paddles, along with swappable front components and adjustable stick tension.
Published specifications establish the control count and mapping features, but not a consistent ergonomic ranking. If you are sensitive to accidental presses, look for a return policy and test the grip with your middle and ring fingers before committing.

Polling rate is how often a controller reports its state. At 1,000 Hz, the nominal reporting interval is about 1 millisecond; at 250 Hz it is about 4 milliseconds, and at 200 Hz about 5 milliseconds. Those intervals are only one part of the input chain.
A genuine end-to-end latency comparison would need the same game, operating system, connection mode, firmware, frame rate, display and measurement method for every controller. The available figures are product specifications: Ultimate 3-mode lists 250 Hz wired and 200 Hz wireless; Ultimate 3 lists up to 1,000 Hz on PC only; Ultimate 3E lists up to 1,000 Hz on PC in ideal laboratory conditions. Do not compare those numbers as if they were measured button-to-pixel results, and do not carry the PC figures over to Xbox.
Practical steps to minimize delay
- Use the connection mode intended for your platform. For the Ultimate 3-mode, that means wired Xbox and 2.4G or wired Windows PC.
- Update the controller firmware and configuration software from the manufacturer’s current support page.
- On PC, connect the receiver directly or use the supplied USB-C adapter where recommended; avoid placing it behind a metal case or crowded hub.
- Use wired mode when troubleshooting wireless interference or when a game shows intermittent input.
- Keep frame rate and display settings consistent before drawing conclusions about responsiveness.
How to choose by priority
Choose the GameSir G7 SE when
- You want one wired controller for Xbox and Windows.
- Hall-effect sticks and two rear buttons matter more than wireless freedom.
- You prefer not to manage a rechargeable battery.
Choose the Ultimate 3-mode when
- You want 2.4G wireless on Windows and a dock.
- You are comfortable using a USB cable on Xbox.
- Hall-effect joysticks and triggers, profiles and software mapping fit your setup.
Choose the Ultimate 3 when
- Wireless Xbox is non-negotiable.
- You want TMR sticks, two trigger stops, adjustable stick tension and extra L4/R4 bumpers.
- You want a dock and the option of wired or 2.4G play on both platforms.
Choose the Ultimate 3E when
- You want the newer 3E feature set, including its integrated wireless-charging dock.
- You need 2.4G or wired operation on Xbox and PC.
- You have verified the exact SKU and regional stock.
Choose the Elite Series 2 when
- Adjustable stick tension and interchangeable paddles, toppers and D-pad are central to your setup.
- You value Xbox Wireless, Bluetooth and Microsoft’s accessory ecosystem.
- You do not require a Hall-effect claim from the cited specification page.
Setup and troubleshooting checklist
Xbox does not recognize the controller
- For the G7 SE and Ultimate 3-mode, confirm the USB cable is fully seated; neither model is wireless on Xbox.
- For the Ultimate 3 or 3E, use the included 2.4G receiver or wired USB mode and check that the controller is switched to the correct platform setting.
- On an Elite Series 2, pair through Xbox Wireless or connect by USB, then install any offered firmware update.
Wireless PC input drops out
- Move the 2.4G receiver closer to the controller with the supplied adapter.
- Temporarily disconnect other nearby 2.4G devices to identify interference.
- Test wired USB. If wired input is stable, the issue is likely radio placement, interference or receiver pairing rather than the game.
A stick feels off-center
Run the manufacturer’s calibration procedure in its current software, then test in a second game. If the error returns after calibration, record the behavior and use the retailer or manufacturer warranty process; Hall-effect or TMR sensing does not eliminate every mechanical or electronic fault.
Rear buttons trigger accidentally
Remap them to low-risk actions while you learn the grip, move the controller slightly so your fingers rest below the switches, and check whether the model offers profile-specific mappings. The Elite Series 2’s interchangeable paddles can be removed or rearranged; the other models use fixed rear-button locations.
What the specifications do—and do not—prove
The listed features are useful for narrowing a purchase, but they are not a substitute for a shared test protocol. No consistent independent comparison of these models establishes a single winner for latency, durability, stick calibration or back-button ergonomics. Review observations are model-specific: TechRadar describes a GameSir G7 Pro with Hall-effect sticks, trigger locks, remappable controls and modular components, but reports a halfway bump and lumpy feel on its face buttons; PC Gamer explains why TMR avoids potentiometer contact while still warning that it is not protection against every failure mode. Those comments concern the G7 Pro review context, not a measured verdict on the G7 SE, Ultimate 3 or Elite Series 2.
Bottom line
For wireless Xbox and PC in one controller, start with the 8BitDo Ultimate 3 or Ultimate 3E. For a lower-complexity wired setup with Hall-effect sticks and two rear buttons, the GameSir G7 SE is the clearest fit. Pick the 8BitDo Ultimate 3-mode only when you understand that its Xbox connection is wired and its 2.4G wireless mode is for Windows. Choose the Xbox Elite Series 2 when adjustable tension, swappable parts and first-party Xbox integration outweigh the absence of a Hall-effect claim on Microsoft’s cited specification page. Treat every polling-rate number as a platform-qualified specification, not as proof of total input latency.
