Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallShort answer: If you need one device that prints, scans and copies, the HP OfficeJet 250 is the strongest-supported choice in this comparison. Tom’s Guide lists it as its pick for most portable-printer buyers and the only model in its tested list with all three functions. It is, however, substantially heavier than print-only portables and scans through a sheet feeder rather than a flatbed.
If you only need mobile printing, consider the Canon PIXMA TR160 or Epson WorkForce WF-110W. For full-page monochrome forms, the Brother PocketJet 8’s thermal design may fit better. People who scan frequently but print occasionally will usually get a more capable workflow by carrying a dedicated mobile document scanner and a smaller print-only printer.

Portable printer versus portable printer-scanner
“Portable printer” is an umbrella term, not a promise that a device can scan. The Canon PIXMA TR160 and Epson WorkForce WF-110W are printers only. Neither should be treated as an all-in-one, and adding a printer to your bag does not give you a way to digitize signed forms, receipts or identity documents.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
A true portable printer-scanner combines output and capture in one chassis, but the scanner mechanism adds size, weight and handling constraints. The HP OfficeJet 250 uses a sheet-through scanner: you feed a page into the unit instead of placing it on a glass flatbed. That makes the machine packable, but it is less forgiving with delicate photographs, bound pages and misaligned originals.

It is perfect for business travel, cars, small offices, construction sites, schools and homes. You can print documents, contracts, invoices and boarding passes anytime and anywhere

Note: The charging adapter is not included. Special thermal paper is required for use; ordinary paper cannot be used. This ink-free portable thermal printer is suitable for various scenarios such as home, school, travel, office, and outdoor, meeting the printing needs of different groups of people. This tattoo template printer is also compatible with tattoo transfer paper, making it an ideal choice for tattoo art
Before comparing models, decide whether you need:
- Printing only: choose a compact color inkjet or a monochrome thermal printer.
- Printing, scanning and copying from one device: accept the extra bulk of an all-in-one such as the HP OfficeJet 250.
- Frequent scanning with occasional printing: use a dedicated mobile scanner plus a print-only portable printer, selecting the scanner for its feeder, battery and wireless features.
That distinction prevents the most common buying mistake: choosing the lightest printer and discovering that scanning was never supported.
Best one-device choice: HP OfficeJet 250
Tom’s Guide names the HP OfficeJet 250 its pick for most portable-printer shoppers and the only printer in its tested portable list with scan and copy functions. Its listed dimensions are 15 × 7.8 × 3.6 inches, and its listed weight is 6.7 pounds. Those figures make it portable in a car, office or travel case, but not an ultra-light option for daily walking or air travel.
The scanner uses a 10-page automatic document feeder and a sheet-through path rather than a flatbed. That design is useful for loose pages and short document batches, while the lack of a flatbed matters for books, passports, receipts that curl, and fragile photographs. Tom’s Guide also notes scan-alignment and delicate-photo-handling caveats in its model listing; feed originals carefully and keep a flatbed scanner available if those jobs are routine. See the guide’s specifications and test notes at Tom’s Guide’s portable-printer guide.

Who should choose it
- Consultants, field technicians and mobile staff who must print a document, make a copy and scan a signed page without carrying three devices.
- Travelers who value one integrated workflow more than minimum weight.
- Households that need occasional color printing and copying away from a desk.
Who should choose something else
- Anyone who prints only a few pages and wants the smallest possible kit.
- People who scan photographs, bound material or irregular originals often.
- Buyers who need a guaranteed battery bundle, current price or warranty term before purchase; those package details vary by market and retailer and are not established here.
Portability trade-off
The OfficeJet 250’s scanner is the reason it can replace a printer and scanner, and also the reason it weighs more than print-only competitors. Pack the power accessories and paper separately, measure your carrying case against the 15-inch length, and compare the total carried weight rather than the printer’s headline dimensions alone.
Best print-only alternatives
Canon PIXMA TR160: color printing with an optional battery
Canon’s U.S. announcement dated March 28, 2025 describes the PIXMA TR160 as a portable printer, not an all-in-one. It weighs 4.5 pounds. Canon says the optional LK-72 battery can print approximately 330 pages per charge. That is a manufacturer estimate tied to the optional battery, not a universal runtime: page coverage, paper, wireless use, temperature and battery condition can change the result. Confirm that the battery is included in the package you are considering.
The TR160 is a sensible route for color documents and occasional photos when scanning is handled by another device. It is lighter than the OfficeJet 250, but buying a battery separately changes both the packed weight and the total cost. Canon’s announcement is at Canon U.S.A.’s PIXMA TR160 release.
Epson WorkForce WF-110W: built-in rechargeable power, print only
Epson’s UK product page identifies the WorkForce WF-110W as an A4 portable single-function inkjet printer. Its regional specifications list ISO speeds of 7 pages per minute (ppm) for monochrome and 4 ppm for color on AC power. On battery power, the listed speeds fall to 4 ppm monochrome and 2 ppm color. The same page lists a maximum paper-tray capacity of 20 sheets. These are Epson UK specifications, not comparative test measurements, so do not assume identical figures for another regional edition.
Rank #2
- LIGHTWEIGHT AND PORTABLE - Connect and print on the go with the PIXMA TR160. This lightweight portable printer can fit into a bag or backpack with room to spare.
- HIGH-QUALITY PRINTING ON THE GO - Print documents and photos up to 8.5” x 11” that showcase sharp black text and vibrant details with rich color thanks to a 5-Color Hybrid Ink System, including square and borderless prints.
- SIMPLE & EASY CONNECTIVITY - Printing is only an app away when using the Canon PRINT app, Apple AirPrint4, or Mopria Print Service5 with your compatible device(s) or the cloud.
- WIRELESS DIRECT MODE - Connect your compatible device to the printer even without a wireless router.
- 1.44” OLED DISPLAY - Easily check ink levels, printer status, and other settings with the 1.44” Monochrome OLED.
The WF-110W is attractive when outlet-free printing matters and your documents are short. Its battery-mode speeds are modest, and there is no scanner or copier. Check Epson’s specification page at Epson UK’s WorkForce WF-110W listing before ordering, especially if you are outside the United Kingdom.
For full-page monochrome forms: Brother PocketJet 8
The Brother PocketJet 8 is a different category from the inkjets above. It uses thermal printing for portable, full-page monochrome output, making it suitable for forms, invoices, delivery records and field documentation where color and photo quality are unnecessary. Brother lists standard-resolution variants at 203 dpi and high-resolution variants at 300 dpi. Connectivity differs by SKU, so select the exact model for your phone, tablet, laptop or vehicle workflow.
Thermal printers require compatible thermal paper or media rather than conventional ink cartridges. Match the PocketJet model to the paper size and media type you can reliably obtain in your region. It is a poor fit for color reports, photo printing or documents that must use ordinary office paper. Product variants are listed on Brother Mobile Solutions’ PocketJet 8 page.
Comparison at a glance
| Use case | Best-supported route | Documented specifications | Main compromise |
|---|---|---|---|
| Print, scan and copy in one portable unit | HP OfficeJet 250 | 10-page sheet-through ADF; 15 × 7.8 × 3.6 inches; 6.7 pounds, as listed by Tom’s Guide | Heavier and bulkier than print-only models; no flatbed for books or delicate originals |
| Color printing without an integrated scanner | Canon PIXMA TR160 | 4.5 pounds; optional LK-72 battery rated by Canon for approximately 330 pages per charge | Battery is optional; scanning requires a separate device |
| Portable color printing with rechargeable power | Epson WorkForce WF-110W | 7 ppm monochrome and 4 ppm color on AC; 4 ppm and 2 ppm on battery; 20-sheet maximum tray, according to Epson UK | Print-only, with slower battery-mode speeds |
| Full-page monochrome field documents | Brother PocketJet 8 | 203 dpi standard-resolution or 300 dpi high-resolution variants | Thermal monochrome output; connectivity and media compatibility vary by SKU |
| Frequent scanning plus occasional printing | Dedicated mobile document scanner plus a print-only portable printer | Epson’s mobile-scanner category includes wireless, battery-operated and ADF configurations | Two devices, two charging routines and more equipment to carry |
The table combines manufacturer specifications with Tom’s Guide’s model listing. Do not treat the numbers as a laboratory comparison: the Epson figures are regional manufacturer specifications, Canon’s page-count figure is a manufacturer estimate, and the OfficeJet dimensions and weight are attributed to Tom’s Guide.
How to choose the right setup
- List every document task. Write down whether you need color, photos, copies, scans, duplex pages, receipts, forms or only black text. If “scan” or “copy” appears even occasionally, mark whether a sheet feeder is acceptable.
- Set a carrying limit. Include the printer, battery, charger, paper, ink or thermal media, and protective case. A 6.7-pound all-in-one can become a significantly heavier travel kit once accessories are added.
- Decide whether battery operation is essential. The Canon battery is optional; Epson publishes separate AC and battery speeds; the exact OfficeJet 250 battery package must be verified for your market. If you will always have an outlet, battery cost and weight may not justify themselves.
- Choose the output medium. Color inkjet models handle ordinary documents and photos but need model-specific ink and paper. PocketJet thermal models need compatible thermal media and produce monochrome output.
- Check your page pattern. A 20-sheet tray is enough for short assignments, not a stack of forms. A 10-page ADF is useful for a small scan batch, but it does not turn a portable device into a high-volume office scanner.
- Verify connectivity before buying. PocketJet 8 connectivity varies by SKU. Confirm support for your operating system, phone or tablet, and whether the required connection is wireless, USB or both.
- Price the consumables and replacements. Compare ink cartridges, maintenance items, thermal paper, batteries and chargers for your region. A low printer price can be offset by expensive or hard-to-find supplies.
- Confirm the local package. Check the exact model number, battery inclusion, warranty, stock and return policy. Portable products are often sold in bundles that differ by country and retailer.
When a separate mobile scanner is the better answer
A dedicated scanner can be the more capable choice when scanning is your primary activity. Epson’s U.S. mobile-document-scanner category shows that portable scanners are available with combinations of wireless connectivity, battery operation and automatic document feeders. The category page does not establish one universal best model, so match the scanner to your originals and volume at Epson’s mobile document scanner listing.
Choose a separate scanner when
- You scan many pages but print only a few.
- You need a better feeder, faster capture or more reliable alignment than a compact all-in-one provides.
- You scan receipts, cards or mixed-size originals and want a device designed around capture.
- You can tolerate carrying and charging two devices.
Specify the scanner before the printer
For a two-device kit, decide the scanner’s maximum page size, feeder capacity, battery runtime, wireless method, file formats and software compatibility first. Then choose the lightest printer that meets your color, paper and battery requirements. This avoids buying a printer-scanner combination whose scanner is the weakest part of your workflow.
Battery, paper and supply planning
Battery claims are conditional
Canon’s approximately 330-page figure applies to the optional LK-72 battery for the TR160 and should be treated as a stated estimate, not a guarantee. Epson separates its AC and battery speed ratings, demonstrating why outlet-free performance can differ materially from the headline specification. For any model, allow reserve capacity for wireless setup, cleaning cycles and pages with heavier coverage.

Paper capacity affects real portability
The WF-110W’s listed 20-sheet maximum tray means you may need to reload during a document run. The OfficeJet’s sheet-through scanner likewise favors short batches. Carry a flat, dry paper supply in a sleeve, and keep thermal media protected from heat and pressure if you use a PocketJet.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesConsumables can determine the practical winner
Before committing, locate the exact ink, battery, maintenance and paper supplies for your country. Thermal media must match the PocketJet model; inkjet cartridges must match the printer’s regional cartridge family. If a replacement battery is unavailable locally, the printer may become outlet-dependent after the original pack ages.

Buying a print-only model when you need scans
Symptom: the product page says “printer” or “single function,” but your workflow includes signed forms or copies. Fix: choose the OfficeJet 250 or budget for a separate mobile scanner. The TR160 and WF-110W do not add scanning.
Assuming every battery is included
Symptom: the product photo shows a battery, but the package list does not. Fix: verify the exact bundle and part number. Canon identifies the LK-72 as optional, and the OfficeJet 250 package can vary by market.
Expecting flatbed behavior from a sheet feeder
Symptom: a photo, bound page or delicate original is skewed or cannot be fed. Fix: use loose, supported-size sheets with the OfficeJet’s feeder, or carry a flatbed-capable scanner for those originals.
Comparing AC and battery speeds as if they were the same
Symptom: battery printing feels slower than the advertised speed. Fix: use the appropriate power-condition specification. Epson lists 7/4 ppm on AC and 4/2 ppm on battery for monochrome/color respectively.
Choosing a thermal printer for color work
Symptom: forms are readable but logos, photos or color-coded instructions are missing. Fix: reserve PocketJet 8 for monochrome documents and select a color inkjet when color information matters.

Recommended buying paths
One device for a mobile office
Select the HP OfficeJet 250 when scanning and copying are non-negotiable and a 6.7-pound, 15-inch-class device fits your case. Treat its sheet feeder as a convenience for loose pages, not a replacement for a full flatbed scanner.
Light color printing
Select the Canon PIXMA TR160 when you want a lighter printer and can supply your own scanner. Add the LK-72 only if outlet-free work justifies the optional battery and its stated approximately 330-page capacity.
Short print jobs away from outlets
Select the Epson WorkForce WF-110W when its 20-sheet tray and battery-mode speeds match your workload. Remember that it prints only, and the cited specifications are for the UK listing.
Black-and-white field forms
Select the appropriate Brother PocketJet 8 SKU when thermal monochrome output is more important than color, ordinary paper or photo quality. Confirm whether 203 dpi or 300 dpi and which connectivity option your forms require.
Scan-heavy work
Build a two-device kit around a mobile document scanner with the feeder, battery and wireless features you need, then pair it with a print-only portable printer. This costs more space, but it puts scanning performance where your workload actually is.

The HP OfficeJet 250 is the best-supported single-device answer when “portable printer and scanner” genuinely means print, scan and copy in one machine. Its 10-page sheet feeder and 6.7-pound body are the price of that versatility. For everyone else, start by removing functions you do not need: the Canon PIXMA TR160 and Epson WorkForce WF-110W are lighter color-printing paths, while the Brother PocketJet 8 is purpose-built for monochrome thermal forms. Compare the complete kit—printer, battery, charger, paper, ink or thermal media and scanner—rather than the printer alone.
