The right portable carpet cleaner is a compact spray-and-extraction machine for localized spills, pet messes, upholstery, stairs, and car interiors—not a replacement for a full-size cleaner when you need to wash an entire room. There is no independently established overall winner here: the available manufacturer information supports a practical comparison of features, but not a controlled ranking of stain removal or drying performance.
What a portable carpet cleaner does—and where it fits
A portable spot cleaner sprays cleaning solution onto a small area, then suctions the liquid and loosened soil into a separate dirty-water tank. BISSELL describes its Little Green for spills, stains, pet messes, and everyday accidents on carpets, rugs, upholstery, stairs, pet beds, and fabric car interiors. The company distinguishes this spot-cleaning role from cleaning whole rooms or homes, for which it recommends a full-size machine. BISSELL Australia’s guide, dated July 6, 2026, explains the intended use and basic method.

For a portable carpet cleaner for pet stains, upholstery, and cars, compare the practical fit of each machine rather than assuming a broad “best” claim means the same thing for every job. A car’s crevices call for different tools than a broad spot on a rug; carrying a cleaner up stairs makes weight relevant.

Compare the documented models and specifications
| Model or item | Documented details | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Hoover CleanSlate Pet | 40-ounce clean-water tank, 15-foot cord, 4.5-foot hose, and 9.4-pound product weight for the model listed by Hoover. Includes a 7-inch WidePath tool, TightSpot tool, and hose-rinse tool. Hoover product listing. | The WidePath is intended for larger spots; TightSpot is designed for crevices. Cord and hose lengths are useful reach specifications to compare against your room or vehicle. These are manufacturer specifications, not comparative performance results. |
| BISSELL Little Green (UAE listing) | The regional product listing specifies a 4.5-foot hose and 15-foot cord and describes use on upholstery, area rugs, carpet, and auto interiors. BISSELL UAE product page. | These figures apply to that regional listing and may not match another market or Little Green variant. Check the exact model listing and manual before buying. |
| BISSELL Little Green Spot & Stain Formula, product ID 2038G (US) | 32-ounce formula identified for portable cleaners and carpet, upholstery, and area-rug spots. BISSELL US formula listing. | This is a consumable, not a cleaner. Confirm the formula is allowed by your specific machine’s manual and follow the bottle and tank markings. |
The cited listings do not provide directly comparable tank capacity, weight, or included-tool details for every model, so this table is not a complete specification ranking. Hoover’s figures are specific to its listed CleanSlate Pet model; BISSELL’s cord and hose figures are specific to its UAE Little Green listing.

Choose features for the mess and location
Pet stains and everyday spills
Look for a tool and tank arrangement that is convenient for repeated small cleanups, and check that the manufacturer lists your intended surface and mess type. Both manufacturers describe their portable machines for spot-cleaning use, but the cited product pages do not establish which one removes stains more effectively.
Upholstery and stairs
For furniture, stairs, and pet beds, verify that the surface is permitted by both the machine manual and the item’s care label. Carrying weight matters when moving between floors; tool width can affect how manageable a spot is to cover. Hoover lists its CleanSlate Pet at 9.4 pounds, but there is no matched weight figure here for the cited BISSELL model.

Cars and narrow spaces
A portable cleaner for car interiors needs enough cord and hose reach to get around the vehicle, plus an attachment that can reach seams and tight gaps. Hoover lists a 15-foot cord and 4.5-foot hose for its cited CleanSlate Pet and includes a TightSpot tool. BISSELL’s UAE Little Green listing also gives a 15-foot cord and 4.5-foot hose. Confirm those dimensions for the exact regional model, and consider where you will plug in the cleaner before relying on its reach.

A wider head can cover a broad spill with fewer passes, while a narrow tool is better suited to seams and corners. Hoover identifies its 7-inch WidePath tool for larger spots and TightSpot for crevices; those are tool-purpose descriptions from the manufacturer, not proof of faster cleaning.

Check the surface before using water and solution
Before wet cleaning, vacuum loose dirt, crumbs, debris, and pet hair. BISSELL advises following the care label and the surface manufacturer’s cleaning instructions for carpets, rugs, upholstery, and vehicle interiors. Its guidance says its carpet washers are unsuitable for delicate pure wool, viscose, jute, velvet, silk, leather, and natural suede. Treat that as BISSELL guidance rather than a universal ruling for every product: the exact appliance manual and the material’s own care instructions determine whether wet extraction is appropriate.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Use compatible formula and extract excess moisture
Use only cleaning formulas permitted by the exact cleaner’s manual. BISSELL says Little Green works with low-foaming BISSELL formulas labeled for portable machines. Its US page lists Spot & Stain Formula 2038G as a 32-ounce option for portable cleaners and carpet, upholstery, and area-rug spots.

- EVERY PURCHASE SAVES PETS. BISSELL proudly supports BISSELL Pet Foundation and its mission to help save homeless pets.
- SUPERIOR SUCTION. 30% more powerful than the competitive portable deep cleaner.*
- INSTANT & PERMANENT PET STAIN REMOVAL. Use with Triple Action PET PRO OXY Spot & Stain formula with Urine Eliminator and StainProtect Technology to protect against future stains.
- SELF-CLEANING TOUGH STAIN TOOL. Rinse out left-behind residue, dirt and debris with a one-touch hose and tool cleanout.
- EASY TO USE. Longer hose and cord let you easily clean hard-to-reach messes, and the two tank technology simplifies filling and emptying while keeping clean and dirty water separate.
- Vacuum loose debris and check the surface care label and cleaner manual.
- Fill the clean-water tank to its water and formula lines, following the manual and formula label. BISSELL’s instructions for 2038G specify using those tank markings.
- Make a cleaning pass with the sprayer on, then a pass with the sprayer off to remove excess moisture, as directed on the BISSELL formula page.
- Empty and clean the tanks and flush the hose as directed by the machine manual before storage.
Do not assume a formula compatible with one portable cleaner is approved for another brand or model. The manual and product label take precedence over general category advice.
Rinse the hose and check replacement-part compatibility
After cleaning, BISSELL recommends flushing the hose before storage, either by suctioning clean water or by using an optional Hydro-Rinse tool. Hoover describes its hose-rinse tool for flushing clean water through the system. Follow the exact model’s cleaning instructions; leaving residue in a hose or tool can make the next cleanup less convenient.
Hoover’s CleanSlate Pet listing includes model-specific replacement parts such as a dirty-water tank and hose-rinse tool. Parts and availability can change, so match the part to the exact model number and verify current availability with the manufacturer before ordering.
What the available evidence can—and cannot—establish
The manufacturer pages describe intended uses, specifications, and care steps. They do not provide independent, controlled comparisons across current portable models for stain removal, extraction, drying time, or reliability. That means a defensible selection here is based on fit—reach, tank, tools, weight, surface compatibility, and maintenance—not a proven performance winner for every pet stain, sofa, or car.
