Best Pokémon GO Raid Attackers to Use Instead of Zoroark

Short answer: If you need Dark-type raid damage, start with Mega Tyranitar, Shadow Hydreigon or Shadow Darkrai when those forms and resources are available. Other simulator-leading choices include Mega Houndoom and Mega Absol. Without Mega or Shadow Pokémon, ordinary Tyranitar, Hydreigon and Hisuian Zoroark are sensible alternatives to investigate. The right choice still depends on the raid boss, its vulnerability, the moves your Pokémon actually know, your levels and the number of players.

Zoroark is not worthless. Pokebattler lists raid bosses that Zoroark can defeat, while Pokémon GO Hub’s broader comparison places it below several Dark attackers in its displayed configuration. Treat the question as “which attacker fits this raid and my roster?” rather than “which Pokémon replaces Zoroark everywhere?”

Choose the raid matchup before choosing a Pokémon

A Dark-attacker ranking is not a universal raid ranking. First check the raid boss’s weaknesses. Dark damage is useful only when the boss takes increased damage from Dark-type attacks. If the boss is instead vulnerable to Ghost, use a strong Ghost attacker with a matching Ghost moveset; a highly ranked Dark Pokémon can still be the wrong counter.

Open the boss’s information screen and note its listed weaknesses. Then check the actual fast and charged moves on each candidate. A Pokémon’s species name does not guarantee that it is dealing the type of damage you want. A Dark attacker with a non-Dark charged move may perform differently from the same species configured for Dark damage.

Use the boss’s moves as part of the matchup, too. A counter that survives longer can outperform a glassier attacker even when its peak damage is lower. Weather, energy remaining, Shadow stat changes, level and the boss’s moveset can all change a simulator result.

Best alternatives to Zoroark for Dark-type raid damage

Attacker Form Why it belongs in the comparison Availability caveat
Mega Tyranitar Mega Pokebattler lists it among leading Dark-move choices. Requires Mega Evolution and the relevant Mega Energy; only one Mega can be active for a player at a time.
Shadow Hydreigon Shadow Pokebattler lists it among leading Dark-move choices; Pokémon GO Hub also names Hydreigon as a contender above Zoroark in its no-Mega/no-Shadow comparison. Requires a Shadow Hydreigon, purification decisions aside, and the resources to power it up.
Shadow Darkrai Shadow Pokebattler’s Dark-move ranking includes it among the leading options. Requires the Shadow form and its associated acquisition and power-up resources.
Mega Houndoom Mega Pokebattler’s ranking includes it among leading Dark-move choices. Requires Mega Energy and an eligible Houndoom.
Mega Absol Mega Pokebattler’s ranking includes it among leading Dark-move choices. Requires Mega Energy and an eligible Absol.
Tyranitar Regular A practical non-Mega alternative when you cannot use Mega Tyranitar; Pokémon GO Hub names Tyranitar among the contenders that surpass Zoroark in its comparison. Its result depends on the moves, level and battle configuration.
Hydreigon Regular A non-Shadow option named by Pokémon GO Hub as a contender above Zoroark in its comparison. Check that its current moves match the intended damage type.
Hisuian Zoroark Regular regional form Pokémon GO Hub names it among the Pokémon surpassing Zoroark when Mega and Shadow choices are excluded. Form availability and moves must be checked in the current game version.

The table separates the source’s simulator leaders from ordinary options. It does not establish one permanent order for every boss. Mega Houndoom, Mega Tyranitar, Shadow Darkrai, Mega Absol and Shadow Hydreigon come from Pokebattler’s Dark-move ranking; the broader no-Mega/no-Shadow comparison comes from Pokémon GO Hub.

How the leading choices compare with Zoroark

Mega Tyranitar

Mega Tyranitar is the clearest first candidate when you need a powerful Dark attacker and can spend Mega Energy. Its Mega status makes it a roster-management decision as well as a damage decision: you must choose which Mega to activate, and only one Mega Pokémon can be active for your account at a time. It is therefore most useful when the boss is genuinely weak to Dark and the rest of your group benefits from the chosen Mega.

Do not assume that owning Mega Tyranitar automatically makes every other counter irrelevant. Compare the actual moves shown on your Tyranitar, its level and the raid boss’s attacks. A lower-level Mega with an unsuitable moveset may not beat a better-prepared regular attacker in the way a generic tier list suggests.

Shadow Hydreigon

Shadow Hydreigon is a strong alternative for players who have invested in the Shadow form. Pokebattler includes it among leading Dark-move choices, and Pokémon GO Hub names Hydreigon among the contenders above Zoroark when Mega and Shadow Pokémon are excluded. Those are separate comparisons: one concerns a Shadow ranking, while the other identifies Hydreigon as a regular-roster alternative.

Shadow Pokémon trade greater offensive potential for their own resource and survivability considerations. Check time-to-win, faint count or estimator performance rather than relying on DPS alone. If repeated relobbies are likely, a less fragile option can produce a better practical result for your group.

Shadow Darkrai

Shadow Darkrai appears in Pokebattler’s leading Dark-move list. It is a candidate for players who already have one powered up and whose raid target is vulnerable to Dark. Because the cited ranking is simulator-based, treat its position as directional rather than as a guarantee that it will be your best attacker at every level, against every boss moveset or in every weather condition.

Before spending resources, confirm the moves your Darkrai currently knows and whether they deliver the damage type required for the raid. The available evidence does not establish a single current moveset for every edition of Darkrai, so use the in-game move display and a current simulator configuration rather than an old moveset article.

Mega Houndoom

Mega Houndoom is another Pokebattler-listed leading Dark choice. It can be a useful Mega when you have Houndoom and the required Mega Energy but lack a suitable Mega Tyranitar. Its value is matchup-specific: a ranking for Dark moves does not prove that it is superior against a boss with a different weakness or a punishing moveset.

Mega Absol

Mega Absol also appears among Pokebattler’s leading Dark-move choices. Consider it when it is the Mega you can activate at the needed time, particularly if your roster does not include a ready Mega Tyranitar or Mega Houndoom. As with every Mega option, compare the boss weakness, your Pokémon’s actual moves and the survival result before committing.

Regular Tyranitar

Regular Tyranitar is the most straightforward non-Mega name in this comparison. Pokémon GO Hub’s comparison says that, without Mega and Shadow Pokémon, Zoroark is surpassed by several contenders, including Tyranitar. This makes Tyranitar a useful benchmark for players who cannot access the Mega or Shadow forms.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Its performance is not determined by the species alone. Check whether your Tyranitar’s fast and charged moves match the intended Dark damage, then compare its level and survivability with Zoroark. A powered-up regular Tyranitar can be more useful than an underpowered “better” species that you have not invested in.

Regular Hydreigon

Hydreigon is another non-Mega, non-Shadow alternative named by Pokémon GO Hub. It is particularly relevant for players building a Dark team without relying on special forms. Verify the moves on the individual Hydreigon, because the comparison is about the attacker’s raid capability and not a promise that every Hydreigon in your storage has the same configuration.

Hisuian Zoroark

Pokémon GO Hub includes Hisuian Zoroark among the contenders that surpass Zoroark in its no-Mega/no-Shadow comparison. Treat it as a separate form, not as proof that every Zoroark is weak. Its availability, moves and current in-game role must be checked before you invest; the supplied comparison does not provide a universal moveset or a fixed performance number for it.

What the published Zoroark numbers actually mean

Pokémon GO Hub displays 14.33 DPS and 181.2 TDO for Zoroark with the Snarl / Foul Play Dark moveset in its database configuration. DPS means damage per second in that simulator setup; TDO means total damage output before the modeled attacker leaves the battle. These are database or simulator figures, not official Pokémon GO statistics, population averages or guaranteed raid outcomes.

The page is a live database, and the available material does not establish the exact calculation date or every assumption behind those displayed figures. Verify the page and its current configuration before quoting the numbers in a team plan. Do not transfer 14.33 DPS or 181.2 TDO to a different level, weather condition, boss moveset or Zoroark moveset.

Pokémon GO Hub also says that Dark, Ghost and Psychic attacks are resisted by Zoroark on its counter page. That information matters when Zoroark is the defender in a battle, but it should not be read as a raid-attacker ranking. The same counter-calculation description says its model considers defender typing, weather, energy remaining, Shadow stat changes and other battle variables—exactly the reasons a static list cannot settle every raid matchup.

A repeatable method for selecting your raid team

  1. Identify the boss’s weakness. Decide whether Dark damage is actually super effective. If the weakness is Ghost instead, evaluate Ghost attackers rather than forcing a Dark team.
  2. Filter by forms you own. Make separate lists for Mega, Shadow and regular Pokémon. Do not count a Shadow or Mega option you cannot field at the required level.
  3. Inspect each individual moveset. Confirm the fast and charged moves in the Pokémon’s summary. Keep only candidates whose moves deliver the damage type you intend to use.
  4. Check levels and power-up costs. A high-ranked species at a low level may contribute less than a well-powered regular Tyranitar, Hydreigon or Zoroark already in your roster.
  5. Compare damage and survival. Read DPS together with TDO, time to win, faint count or estimator results when the tool provides them. Short-term damage and long-term contribution are different measurements.
  6. Model the boss’s moveset and weather. Re-run the comparison for the boss’s likely charged attacks and the current weather bonus. A weather change or a harder-hitting boss move can alter which counter is practical.
  7. Build a six-Pokémon party you can actually use. Include enough durable counters to avoid an unnecessary relobby. If your best six are all fragile Shadow attackers, compare a mixed party with one or more regular options.
  8. Recheck immediately before the raid. Live databases, moves and availability can change. Confirm the current boss, your selected moves and the active Mega before entering.

Why simulator rankings disagree

Pokebattler and Pokémon GO Hub answer slightly different questions because their pages can use different configurations. One may model a specific boss, weather, level, moveset or party condition while another presents a broader database comparison. A list that places Shadow Darkrai above another attacker is not a statement that every player will see the same order.

Boss typing is the first source of divergence. A Dark ranking cannot predict performance when a boss is weak to Ghost, Fighting, Bug or another type. The boss’s own attacks are the second: a counter that resists those attacks may survive long enough to overtake a higher-DPS but fragile choice.

Form is another major variable. Mega and Shadow Pokémon appear prominently in Pokebattler’s leading Dark list, while Pokémon GO Hub’s cited comparison specifically discusses the roster without Mega and Shadow Pokémon. Keep those pools separate when interpreting the result.

Finally, energy and relobby behavior matter. A simulator may account for remaining energy, dodging or other battle variables differently from another tool. Quote the simulator name and configuration whenever you use a precise number or rank.

When Zoroark is still the right choice

Zoroark can remain useful when it is already powered up, its moves match the boss’s weakness and the alternatives require resources you do not have. Pokebattler lists raid bosses that Zoroark can defeat, demonstrating that it is not an automatic non-counter. A favorable boss matchup, suitable weather and a lack of stronger available forms can make using Zoroark reasonable.

Keep it in the team when replacing it would mean fielding an underpowered attacker, using the wrong damage type or forcing repeated relobbies. The practical question is whether another Pokémon improves your team against this boss with your current roster—not whether a general list places Zoroark near the top.

Common mistakes and fixes

  • Using Dark damage against a boss that is not weak to Dark: Recheck the boss’s weakness list and switch to the appropriate attack type.
  • Copying a moveset from an old guide: Inspect the individual Pokémon and confirm its current fast and charged moves before the raid.
  • Treating DPS as the whole result: Compare TDO, time to win, faint count and estimator performance as well.
  • Assuming every player has the ranked form: Separate Mega, Shadow and regular choices, then build from the forms actually in your storage.
  • Ignoring the boss’s moves: Test the likely boss moveset; survivability can change the practical order.
  • Reading one simulator rank as a guarantee: Record the simulator, boss, weather, level and form used for the result.
  • Discarding Zoroark automatically: Check whether your Zoroark already meets the matchup and whether the replacement is genuinely stronger at your available level.

A simple decision guide

Your situation Best starting point What to verify
You have Mega Energy and need Dark damage. Compare Mega Tyranitar first, then Mega Houndoom or Mega Absol. Boss weakness, Mega availability, actual moves and survival.
You own powered-up Shadow attackers. Compare Shadow Hydreigon and Shadow Darkrai. Shadow level, move type, faint count and relobby risk.
You have no Mega or Shadow option. Compare regular Tyranitar, Hydreigon and Hisuian Zoroark with Zoroark. Current moves, levels and the boss’s attacks.
The boss is weak to Ghost rather than Dark. Use a strong Ghost attacker with matching Ghost moves. Do not rely on a Dark-only ranking.
Your Zoroark is already powered up. Keep it if it matches the raid and your alternatives are weaker in practice. Run the same boss and weather configuration for every candidate.

Bottom line for building a replacement team

For a Dark-weak raid, Mega Tyranitar, Shadow Hydreigon and Shadow Darkrai are the most prominent starting points in the supplied rankings, with Mega Houndoom and Mega Absol also listed by Pokebattler. Regular Tyranitar, Hydreigon and Hisuian Zoroark give players without Mega or Shadow resources a meaningful comparison set. Zoroark remains usable in favorable matchups. Select the attacker whose type, moves, form, level and survivability fit the specific boss rather than copying a permanent tier order.
