For most new buyers, PS5 or Xbox Series X|S is the best way to play both Star Wars Jedi games. Those consoles provide the documented current-generation improvements for Fallen Order, while Survivor was designed around current-generation hardware. Choose PC instead when you already have a system at or above Electronic Arts’ recommended specification and want adjustable graphics settings. Choose PS4 or Xbox One when reusing hardware you already own is more important than getting the current-generation Fallen Order upgrade.
Quick answer: which platform should you choose?
Buy the PS5 version if you want the simplest all-around console choice, a disc drive option, and the documented current-generation upgrades for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Buy Xbox Series X when you want the equivalent current-generation path in the Xbox ecosystem or need a disc drive. Series S is suitable when you are committed to digital purchases and already use Xbox, but the available official information does not establish a performance comparison between Series S and Series X for Jedi: Survivor.

Choose PC when your existing computer meets or exceeds EA’s recommended Survivor specification: Windows 10 or newer, 16 GB of RAM, a 155 GB SSD installation, and an RTX 2070- or RX 6700 XT-class graphics card. PC gives you graphics options and three listed storefronts, but it is a poor value if you would need to buy or substantially upgrade the entire machine only for these games.

What each game supports
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
EA’s current-generation release for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S lists higher-resolution textures and assets, 4K/HDR support, improved 60 frames-per-second performance, and faster loading. These are the clearest documented reasons to prefer a current-generation console over an older one for the first game. The enhancements apply to the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions; the published information does not present a platform-by-platform table of measured resolution or frame-rate results.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
EA lists Survivor on PC through the EA app, Steam, and Epic, as well as PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. EA’s launch announcement described the game as built for current-generation hardware and launched it on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The same platform listing means owners of PS4 and Xbox One can play the supported editions, but the available official information does not provide a complete, current comparison of resolution, frame rate, loading, or image quality across every version.
Respawn game director Stig Asmussen described the sequel at launch by saying that “Star Wars Jedi: Survivor evolves the gameplay experience of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order in every way.” That statement explains the sequel’s positioning, but it is not a substitute for a technical performance chart.
Platform comparison
| Platform | Best fit | Documented advantages | Hardware and storage considerations | Format and caveats |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PS5 | New console buyers who want both games | Fallen Order has higher-resolution assets, 4K/HDR, improved 60 FPS performance, and faster loading | Dedicated console; game storage requirements depend on the installed edition | EA lists digital and retail availability for Survivor; disc and digital purchasing are possible depending on the PS5 model |
| Xbox Series X | Xbox users who want current-generation hardware and physical discs | The same EA-documented Fallen Order upgrade categories as PS5 and Series S | Dedicated console; internal storage is shared with other games | EA lists digital and retail availability for Survivor; disc ownership is a reason to favor Series X |
| Xbox Series S | Xbox users committed to digital purchases | Included in EA’s current-generation Fallen Order upgrade listing | Digital-only hardware; available storage is more constrained than on larger consoles | No official source here establishes a current Survivor performance comparison with Series X |
| PC | Players who already own suitable hardware and want adjustable settings | Graphics settings can be tuned to the installed hardware; PC storefront choice | EA recommends Windows 10 or newer, 16 GB RAM, a 155 GB SSD, and RTX 2070/RX 6700 XT-class graphics | Listed storefronts are EA app, Steam, and Epic; total upgrade cost is not stated |
| PS4 | Existing PlayStation owners minimizing new hardware spending | Supported edition of Survivor | Older console generation; current-generation Fallen Order enhancements do not apply | EA lists retail and digital availability; no complete current performance matrix is provided |
| Xbox One | Existing Xbox owners minimizing new hardware spending | Supported edition of Survivor | Older console generation; current-generation Fallen Order enhancements do not apply | EA lists retail and digital availability; no complete current performance matrix is provided |
Why PS5 is the safest default recommendation
PS5 combines the strongest documented case for the first game with straightforward access to the sequel. EA’s current-generation Fallen Order release specifically calls out higher-resolution textures and assets, 4K/HDR, improved 60 FPS performance, and faster loading. If you are buying a console primarily for Cal Kestis’s two-game story, those improvements affect visual clarity, responsiveness, and time spent waiting between areas.

PS5 also avoids the main trade-off attached to Xbox Series S: digital-only purchasing. A PS5 with a disc drive lets you buy a retail copy of Survivor or use a digital edition, while the digital PS5 model is appropriate if you never use discs. EA lists both retail and digital availability for the PS5 edition.
The recommendation is about the platform path, not a claim that PS5 delivers a measured advantage over Series X in Survivor. The official information available for this comparison does not publish a current, side-by-side technical table for the sequel. PS5 is the default because it combines confirmed first-game upgrades, current-generation support for the sequel, and flexible purchase formats.
Choosing Xbox Series X or Series S
Series X
Series X is the Xbox counterpart to PS5 for this series. EA includes Xbox Series X|S in the documented Fallen Order upgrade, including higher-resolution assets, 4K/HDR, improved 60 FPS performance, and faster loading. EA also lists Survivor for Xbox Series X|S with retail and digital availability.

Series S
Series S makes sense for an Xbox household that buys games digitally and wants the least expensive way into current-generation Xbox hardware. It is included in EA’s current-generation Fallen Order platform listing and supports the Xbox Series version of Survivor.
Its digital-only design matters more than any unverified performance assumption. You cannot use an Xbox disc on Series S, so a physical copy of either game does not transfer into a disc-based play routine. Because the official sources reviewed here do not supply a complete Series S-versus-Series X analysis for Survivor, do not buy Series S on the expectation of a specific sequel resolution or frame-rate result.
When PC is the better platform
PC is the right choice when you already have capable hardware, value adjustable graphics settings, or want to choose among the EA app, Steam, and Epic storefronts. It is not automatically the best choice simply because PCs can be more powerful: the cost of a suitable graphics card, processor, memory, and SSD can exceed the price of a console.
EA’s recommended Survivor specification
| Component | Recommended target | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 or newer | The supported software baseline listed by EA |
| Memory | 16 GB RAM | Helps the game and background services operate within EA’s recommended configuration |
| Storage | 155 GB SSD installation | Requires enough free solid-state storage before downloading |
| Graphics | NVIDIA RTX 2070 or AMD RX 6700 XT class | EA’s recommended graphics tier for Survivor |
These are recommended requirements, not a promise of a particular frame rate or resolution. The official information does not provide a complete table tying those components to a fixed performance mode. A computer below this target may still be able to run an edition under its own published minimum requirements, but this comparison does not establish what settings or performance that would produce.

How to check a Windows PC before buying
- Open Settings > System > About and confirm that Windows is version 10 or newer and that installed memory is at least 16 GB.
- Open Settings > System > Storage and verify that the drive where you install games has at least 155 GB free. Leave additional headroom for updates and normal Windows operation rather than filling the drive completely.
- Identify the graphics card in Settings > System > Display > Advanced display, or use Device Manager > Display adapters. Compare the model with the RTX 2070 or RX 6700 XT class named by EA.
- Confirm that the SSD, not a slower hard drive, is the intended installation location. EA’s stated recommendation is specifically a 155 GB SSD installation.
- Choose the storefront you actually use—EA app, Steam, or Epic—and check that the account and launcher can access the edition you intend to purchase.
PC’s flexibility is valuable after installation: you can adjust resolution, texture quality, shadows, and other options to match your monitor and graphics card. Those controls are a reason to choose PC, but they should not be presented as proof of superior image quality without a controlled test using the same display and settings.
Should owners of PS4 or Xbox One upgrade?
If you already own PS4 or Xbox One, you can play the EA-listed Survivor edition without buying a new console. This is the sensible reuse path when your budget is limited or you want to finish the story on hardware already connected to your television.
Upgrade to PS5 or Xbox Series X|S when the documented Fallen Order improvements—higher-resolution assets, 4K/HDR, improved 60 FPS performance, and faster loading—matter to you, or when you want current-generation hardware for other games as well. The available information does not provide a complete technical matrix proving how every Survivor feature differs between generations, so the upgrade decision should be based on the confirmed first-game benefits, general hardware ownership, and your budget rather than an invented sequel benchmark.

Console storage
Console editions share the internal drive with the operating system, saves, updates, and other games. Keep practical free space before downloading either title and check the store page for the edition-specific installation size at purchase time. The supplied platform information confirms retail and digital availability but does not state a single universal console download size for every edition.

- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.

PC storage
Plan for the 155 GB SSD installation EA recommends for Survivor. If you intend to install both games, reserve additional capacity for the first game, patches, launcher files, and save backups; a 155 GB figure applies to the recommended Survivor installation, not automatically to the combined library. Installing on an SSD also aligns with EA’s stated recommendation and avoids treating a hard drive as equivalent.
What the official information does—and does not—prove
The strongest documented technical distinction is the current-generation upgrade for Fallen Order. EA explicitly names its higher-resolution textures and assets, 4K/HDR, improved 60 FPS performance, and faster loading on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
For Survivor, EA confirms the supported platforms and positions the game as built for current-generation hardware, while also listing PS4 and Xbox One editions. The sources used for this comparison do not supply a current platform-by-platform frame-rate and resolution matrix, a verified Series X-versus-Series S table, or a present-day cloud-gaming catalog. Therefore, claims about exact sequel performance, stutter, image-quality superiority, or cloud availability should be treated as unverified unless supported by separate testing.

Buying format and ownership decisions
EA lists retail and digital purchase availability across the supported console editions, and lists PC distribution through the EA app, Steam, and Epic. Your preferred format can decide the platform as much as graphics can.
- Prefer discs: Choose a PS5 model with a disc drive or Xbox Series X. Series S is digital-only.
- Prefer digital libraries: Any listed current-generation console or PC storefront can fit, provided you select the correct edition.
- Already own a console: Buying the supported edition for PS4 or Xbox One avoids the cost of new hardware.
- Already own a capable PC: Use the recommended specification as the checkpoint before choosing PC over a console.
- Want the least configuration: A current-generation console offers a fixed hardware target, while PC requires you to verify operating system, memory, SSD capacity, and graphics hardware.
Final decision guide
Buy PS5 if
- You are starting fresh and want one console for both games.
- You want the clearest documented upgrade for Fallen Order.
- You may buy discs as well as digital games.
Buy Xbox Series X if
- You are invested in Xbox accounts and purchases.
- You want current-generation support and a disc drive.
- You prefer the higher-end Xbox model without relying on an unverified Survivor performance claim.
Buy Xbox Series S if
- You are committed to digital purchases.
- You want current-generation Xbox hardware in a smaller, lower-cost format.
- You accept that official information here does not compare its sequel performance directly with Series X.
Choose PC if
- Your machine meets or exceeds Windows 10 or newer, 16 GB RAM, 155 GB SSD, and RTX 2070/RX 6700 XT-class graphics.
- You want adjustable settings and a choice of EA app, Steam, or Epic.
- You would otherwise need to buy a complete PC solely for these games.
Stay on PS4 or Xbox One if
- You already own the console and want the lowest-cost route to Survivor.
- You accept that the documented current-generation Fallen Order upgrades are for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
More than 20 million players had played Fallen Order worldwide across consoles, platforms, and subscription services by 2021, according to EA. That broad reach is why there is no single wrong platform: the best choice depends on whether you value confirmed current-generation enhancements, existing hardware, PC flexibility, or physical ownership.
