Pocket Gamer’s tier guide, updated October 5, 2026 for version 2.3.2, offers a useful set of editorial picks—not an official ranking or a standardized performance test. Use it to narrow your choices, then check your current Hangar and the game’s latest balance changes.
What makes a plane “best” in Wings of Heroes?
A plane that excels at turning and pursuit may be a poor fit if you want to absorb damage or attack with bombs. Compare aircraft by role, speed, survivability, turn time, damage and suspended armament, and compare contenders at the same tier and upgrade level. Pocket Gamer’s guide gives qualitative recommendations, not a complete standardized stat table, so it does not establish a numeric ranking across all aircraft.

Your aircraft’s rarity, module upgrades, Hangar Workshop perks and battle power-ups also affect its strength, according to Ten Square Games Support. A plane’s tier alone does not tell the whole story.

| Tier | Guide picks | What the guide says |
|---|---|---|
| I | Hawker Fury MK II; Polikarpov I-15 bis | Presented as equal in power. Light Fighters turn quickly but have relatively low speed and survivability. |
| II | Messerschmitt BF 109 B-1 | Praised for speed, short turn time and damage per second; its weakness is low survivability. |
| III | Blenheim MK I; Yer-2 M-105; Mitsubishi G4M1; He 111 H-16 | The Blenheim is described as slow but well-rounded, combining damage, survivability and maneuverability. |
| IV | P-36A Hawk; Sea Fury FB. 11 | The P-36A is described as swift and damaging but fragile. Pocket Gamer gives it an 18-second turn time. |
| V | Junkers JU 88 A-4; Beaufighter MK X; Fiat F.C.20 Bis; Ki-43 Hayabusa; Yakovlev Yak-1; Bristol Beaufighter Mk X; PE-2-31 | The guide highlights the JU 88 A-4 for damage and survivability and the PE-2-31 as a balanced multirole option. |
| VI | HE 111 H-16; Mitsubishi G4M1; Hawker Hurricane Mk IV | The prose favors the two bombers for players who prefer that role, with the author leaning toward the Mitsubishi. The guide also says the two bombers it discusses deal “well over 120 DPS”; this is the guide’s claim, not an independently verified measurement. |
| VII | BF 110 G-2 | A Multirole Fighter described as fast, damaging and adequately armored. Its missile can be decisive if it lands. |
| VIII | Ki-67-I Otsu | The bomber is praised for its armament and armor, with a longer turn time. |
| IX | Spitfire F MK IX; B-17E Flying Fortress; Petlyakov Pe-8 | The guide contrasts the Spitfire’s speed with the Flying Fortress’s heavy weapons and slow handling. |
| X | P-51 Mustang | The guide’s pick, described as capable of dealing substantial damage in different situations. |
The Tier X section names the P-51 Mustang, while the game’s store listing also names the La-7 and A-26B-10 as Tier X additions. Treat the guide as a dated snapshot: confirm aircraft and their availability in your current Hangar rather than assuming its list reflects the latest patch.
Choose by the job you want to do
For quick turns and pursuit
Light Fighters trade speed and survivability for the shortest turn time, according to Pocket Gamer’s role descriptions. If your priority is turning onto a target, the Tier I Hawker Fury MK II and Polikarpov I-15 bis are the guide’s equal-power choices. At Tier II, the BF 109 B-1 offers a different balance: speed, a short turn time and damage output, but less survivability.

For speed and damage
Pocket Gamer characterizes Fighters as fast but fragile. Its BF 109 B-1 pick reflects that trade-off at Tier II; at Tier IV, the P-36A Hawk is also described as swift and damaging, but fragile. Consider whether you can make use of speed and damage without relying on the aircraft to take many hits.

For a balance of speed, armor and damage
Multirole Fighters combine good speed, medium armor and damage in Pocket Gamer’s descriptions. Its Tier VII BF 110 G-2 pick fits that profile, with a missile that may decide an engagement if it hits. At Tier V, the guide calls the PE-2-31 one of its balanced multirole choices.
For attack aircraft
Pocket Gamer describes Attack Aircraft as fast and damaging, relatively balanced, and lightly armored. That mix can suit players looking for damage without a bomber’s slower turning, but the light armor makes survivability a trade-off. Check the specific plane’s armament and current in-game stats before choosing one for that role.

How matchmaking and progression affect your choice
Ten Square Games Support says matchmaking is based on the highest-tier aircraft you select for battle. Opponents may be roughly one tier above or below that choice, and the range may widen when the lobby contains a broader mix of tiers. Support says selecting only Tier I planes can keep opponents from being above Tier II.
The publisher’s July 7, 2026 update describes changes to aircraft rarity, blueprint distribution, unlock costs and upgrade pacing. It says Common aircraft are easier to unlock and rarer planes are more clearly differentiated within each tier. Because rarity and upgrades affect power, comparing an upgraded aircraft with a less-developed one can obscure the value of the plane itself.

The same update described the F-16 campaign as time-limited and said jets were, at that point, available only within campaigns. That does not establish the F-16 as a normal permanent unlock; check the current game for its availability. The publisher framed its recent systems as allowing more experimentation with events, aircraft formats and progression in a July 7, 2026 update.
Quick Recap
A practical way to pick your next plane
- Choose your role first. Decide whether you want quick turns, speed, durability, bomb damage, balanced damage or suspended weapons.
- Compare aircraft within the same tier. Use the guide’s picks to make a shortlist, then inspect the current Hangar stats and armament for those planes.
- Account for development. Check rarity, modules and Hangar Workshop perks before treating one aircraft’s performance as a fair comparison with another’s.
- Consider the matchmaking trade-off. Selecting a higher-tier plane can change the range of opponents you encounter, so choose a plane for both its role and the battles you want to enter.
- Recheck after updates. Pocket Gamer’s picks are current to its October 5, 2026 version 2.3.2 update; later balance or availability changes may make the in-game picture different.
