There is no single best numeric setting for every Hisense TV. Use the picture mode and signal type as your starting point, then adjust screen-light output for the room. The exact controls and available features vary by model, region, and content, so treat model-specific numbers as examples—not presets to copy.
Start with the right controls
Before changing values, identify which control changes the TV’s overall light output. On Hisense’s MT9612 platform, Backlight changes overall screen brightness, while the separate Brightness control changes how light or dark the image appears. Other Hisense TVs may use different labels or behavior; check your model’s manual rather than assuming the controls are interchangeable. See the Hisense TV support and manuals resources.

Make adjustments while the content type you care about is playing. SDR, HDR10, and Dolby Vision can use different picture modes and expose different controls. A TV may switch modes automatically when HDR content begins, so a change made during SDR viewing may not carry over.
Bright-room settings
In a bright room, raise the screen-light control—often called Backlight—until the picture is comfortable to watch. Avoid raising image Brightness simply to make the screen brighter: changing black level can make dark areas look washed out or obscure shadow detail. Keep that control near its correct baseline unless the image visibly needs black-level correction.

Gamma is another room-dependent choice where available. Hisense’s MT9612 manual gives gamma 2.0 as an example for brighter areas and 2.2 for dark rooms. Those are examples for that platform, not universal values for Hisense TVs. The same manual notes that options may vary by model and content.
Movie and TV settings
For films and scripted shows, begin with a film-oriented picture mode if your TV offers one: Film, Movie, Cinema, Theater, or Filmmaker Mode. Hisense recommends film-oriented modes as a starting basis for movies and advises reducing sharpness and motion smoothing for a more natural presentation. The available modes vary by set and region; see Hisense Germany’s picture-settings guidance.

Reduce processing that changes the look
Excessive sharpening can add artificial edges, while motion smoothing can make film movement look unusually fluid. Reduce these effects if you prefer a more natural film presentation. There is no single motion setting that suits everyone: some viewers prefer smoothing, and some models offer a Film motion option to address judder. Adjust while watching familiar content and keep the setting that looks right to you.

Independent measurements illustrate why one preset cannot cover every Hisense TV. RTINGS selected Filmmaker Mode for its tested 65-inch CanvasTV 2026 and U6SF Pro, but Theater Night for SDR on its tested U75QG. These are recommendations for those specific sets, not a ranking that applies to the whole range.

For its 65-inch CanvasTV 2026 test unit, RTINGS lists SDR brightness values of 19 for 100 nits and 36 for 200 nits, and chose Gamma 2.2 and Black Level 0. For its tested 65-inch U6SF Pro, it gives Backlight examples of 7 for 100 nits and 24 for 200 nits, and selected Warm 1 for SDR. On its tested U75QG, RTINGS reports that brightness 28 corresponded to about 200 nits; its guide may not fully apply to the 100-inch model because that size uses a different panel. These figures are tied to RTINGS’ test units and are not universal settings. See the guides for the CanvasTV 2026, U6SF Pro, and U75QG.
Do not copy advanced white-balance or color-calibration values from another TV. Panel-to-panel variation means measurements for one unit may not be right for another.

Gaming settings
Choose Game picture mode when gaming if your Hisense TV offers it. It is the practical starting point for the TV’s gaming behavior and lower input lag on the models tested by RTINGS. If supported, Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) can switch the TV into a low-latency mode when a compatible device is connected.

Check the specifications and manual for both the TV and connected console or PC before relying on Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) or a particular refresh rate. Support differs by model, input, and signal; do not assume a feature is available just because another Hisense TV has it. A gaming mode may prioritize responsiveness over cinematic processing, so use a film-oriented mode for movies if you prefer its picture.

Set HDR and Dolby Vision separately
HDR10 and Dolby Vision are distinct from SDR viewing. Start HDR playback, then check which picture mode the TV has selected and which controls are available. For Dolby Vision, choose among the Dolby Vision modes actually offered by your set, taking the room and your preference into account. Do not transfer SDR brightness, gamma, or calibration values to an HDR or Dolby Vision mode.
For its tested 65-inch CanvasTV 2026, RTINGS selected Filmmaker Mode for HDR and recommended Dynamic Tone Mapping off for accuracy. It notes that turning tone mapping on can produce a brighter-looking image at the expense of highlight accuracy. This is a model-specific trade-off, not a universal recommendation for other Hisense TVs.

A simple adjustment sequence
- Play the content type you want to set up. Make separate checks for SDR, HDR10, and Dolby Vision where applicable.
- Choose a suitable picture mode. Use a film-oriented mode for movies, Game mode for gaming, or the available Dolby Vision mode during Dolby Vision playback.
- Set screen-light output for the room. Adjust Backlight or the equivalent overall-light control until viewing is comfortable.
- Leave image Brightness near its baseline. Change it only when black level visibly needs correction, not as a substitute for screen-light output.
- Adjust processing to taste. Reduce sharpness or motion smoothing if they look artificial; keep motion options that you prefer.
- Check optional features against the exact model. Confirm support for ALLM, VRR, and the refresh rate you want before enabling or troubleshooting them.
