To choose a phone that lasts, compare battery-life results from the same test method—not just the largest mAh figure. Then check how quickly the phone recharges, whether it supports the charging options you need, and whether its size, price, software support and regional version suit you. Capacity is a useful filter, but it cannot predict your personal runtime.
Start with battery tests that use the same method
A runtime test gives a more practical comparison than capacity alone, but results are meaningful side by side only when the phones were tested under comparable conditions. Look for the reviewer’s protocol: network type, screen brightness, workload and test duration. A continuous 5G web-surfing test at a fixed brightness can help compare phones tested that way; it is not a forecast of how long every owner will get.

For example, Tom’s Guide reports 16 hours 10 minutes for the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, 17 hours 54 minutes for the iPhone 17 Pro Max and 25 hours 13 minutes for the OnePlus 15 in its continuous 5G web-surfing test at 150 nits. These are that publication’s results under its protocol, not guarantees of everyday battery life. Tom’s Guide also notes that it retested the Galaxy S25 Ultra using the newer version of its test after months of use, which matters when interpreting comparisons across test versions. Other reviewers may use different workloads and scoring systems. GSMArena’s May 3, 2026 battery guide uses an Active Use Score and sets a 17-hour minimum for the phones it hand-picks. That is the guide’s selection threshold, not an industry-wide standard or a direct equivalent to hours in Tom’s Guide’s web test. PhoneArena maintains a battery-test results database; check the individual devices’ dates and conditions before comparing its figures with one another.

Use mAh to screen candidates, not to predict runtime
Milliamp-hours (mAh) describe battery capacity, not how long a phone will last for a particular person. Efficiency, display behavior, apps, signal strength and workload all affect energy use. Samsung cautions that “Actual battery life varies by network environment, features and apps used, frequency of calls and messages, the number of times charged, and many other factors.” Samsung’s Galaxy S26 series announcement also distinguishes typical capacity from rated minimum capacity.
When a manufacturer publishes both figures, note which one is being quoted. Samsung says its typical capacity is an estimated average across samples tested under IEC 61960. For the Galaxy S26 and S26+, Samsung lists typical capacities of 4,300 mAh and 4,900 mAh, respectively, and rated minima of 4,175 mAh and 4,755 mAh. A typical figure and a rated minimum are different measures; do not treat them as interchangeable.
Compare the evidence for large-battery examples carefully
Some phones advertise unusually high capacity, but figures from different reviewers or test methods do not create a reliable universal ranking. Use examples to identify models worth checking, then verify their local version and compare results measured under a method shared by the alternatives.

Check how quickly—and how flexibly—the phone recharges
Endurance is only part of the decision. If you often need a quick top-up, compare the stated wired charging rate and, where available, a charging-time test that gives its conditions. A wattage figure alone does not tell you how long a full recharge takes. Check whether the phone supports wireless charging or reverse charging if you will use those features, and whether its required adapter is included.
For Samsung’s cited Galaxy S26 charging setup, the company says the adapter is sold separately. Its advertised charging percentages are tied to particular adapters and laboratory conditions, so read those conditions rather than assuming the same result with any charger. Balance battery gains against the phone you carry
A large battery is valuable only if the whole phone works for you. Before choosing, compare the exact local version against your needs in these areas:

A larger battery may come with a bulkier phone, but compare the actual devices rather than assuming.
- Price and warranty: Verify current local pricing, warranty terms and seller availability. These vary by market and are not established uniformly for the models above.
- Software support: Check the manufacturer’s support commitment for the exact model and country.
- Camera and performance: Make sure the phone meets your needs beyond battery life; a strong endurance result does not establish camera or performance quality.
- Network compatibility: Confirm the regional variant supports your carrier’s bands and services before buying.
- Charging accessories: Check the adapter policy and whether the phone’s charging capabilities require a compatible accessory.
A practical shortlist process
- Set your real priority. Decide whether you need the longest time between charges, fast recovery during the day, wireless charging, reverse charging or a balance of these.
- Find comparable runtime tests. Prefer results from one reviewer using the same protocol for all shortlisted phones. Record the workload, network and brightness, and treat the result as a controlled comparison rather than a personal-use promise.
- Read capacity labels carefully. Note whether each number is typical or rated. Use mAh to identify high-capacity options, not to rank expected runtime by itself.
- Check charging details. Compare wired speed and any available time-to-charge result, then verify wireless or reverse charging support and the included-adapter policy.
- Verify the local purchase. Confirm exact variant, price, stock, warranty, software support and carrier compatibility for your country before paying.
For example, a shopper prioritizing a very large published capacity might investigate the Realme P4 Power, while someone prioritizing a long result in Tom’s Guide’s specific 5G web test might compare the OnePlus 15. Neither comparison settles which phone is right without checking local availability, compatibility and the buyer’s other requirements.
