The REDMAGIC 11 Pro is the best choice if you specifically want a phone with active cooling built in. It combines a fan, a piezoelectric liquid-cooling loop and a large vapor chamber with a 144 Hz screen, shoulder controls, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 performance and a 7,500 mAh battery. It is designed to hold performance during long sessions rather than merely survive short benchmark bursts. The ASUS ROG Phone 9 Pro is the better alternative if you prefer ASUS software and accessories, but its active fan is a separate AeroActive Cooler X Pro attachment. A mainstream phone such as Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra can stay cool with passive vapor-chamber cooling, yet it has no internal fan.
What counts as active cooling in a gaming phone?
Active cooling moves heat with a powered component. In a phone, that normally means a fan, a pump or both. The distinction matters because mobile processors can run at very high speed for a few minutes, then reduce clock speeds when heat accumulates. A cooler phone can sustain a higher frame rate, keep touch response consistent and reduce the stutter that appears after a long session.

There are three designs buyers commonly encounter:
- Integrated active cooling: the phone contains its own fan and, in the REDMAGIC 11 Pro, a liquid loop with a piezoelectric ceramic micropump. It works without an attachment.
- Accessory active cooling: the phone itself is passively cooled, while a powered fan such as the ROG Phone 9 Pro’s AeroActive Cooler X Pro is clipped to the handset. This can remove more heat, but adds cost, bulk and another device to charge or connect.
- Passive cooling: a vapor chamber, graphite sheets and the frame spread heat without a fan or pump. This is quieter and easier to seal against dust and water, but it has less capacity to extract heat once the phone is saturated.
Active cooling is not a guarantee of a cold phone. The fan still needs an intake and an exhaust path, and the heat ultimately has to be released into the surrounding air. You can also feel warmth at the frame because moving heat away from the processor transfers it elsewhere. The benefit is sustained performance, not the absence of warmth.
Best overall: REDMAGIC 11 Pro
The REDMAGIC 11 Pro is the clearest match for the question “Which gaming phone has a built-in fan?” PhoneArena describes it as the first smartphone with a functional liquid-cooling system, with a signature active fan working alongside the industry’s biggest vapor chamber. GSMArena’s 2026 buyer guide names it the editor’s choice and highlights the fan-and-coolant design, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, gaming controls and large battery.

How its cooling system works
Android Central reports that a piezoelectric ceramic micropump circulates coolant through ultra-fine liquid channels. The liquid loop works with the internal fan and vapor chamber: the coolant transports heat through the channels, the chamber spreads it over a larger area and the fan moves air across the heat-exchange section. This is more elaborate than the fan-only systems found in older gaming phones.
The pump is not a second loud mechanical fan. It is a solid-state ceramic component that moves the coolant when electrically driven. The phone still has an audible fan, however, and the cooling path requires an air intake. Keep that opening clear of a case, a desk mat or dust.
Measured performance
Android Central’s published benchmark table records these results:
| Test | REDMAGIC 11 Pro result |
|---|---|
| Geekbench 6 single-core | 3,614 |
| Geekbench 6 multi-core | 10,785 |

- 7,500 mAh battery: PhoneArena and Android Central list this capacity. Android Central says the phone can last about a day and a half with extended gaming and up to two days with medium use; those are review observations, not laboratory guarantees.
- 80 W charger in the box: Android Central and REDMAGIC Global report bundled 80 W charging. Actual charging time depends on temperature, battery level, regional charger specification and whether you are using the phone while charging.
Where the REDMAGIC compromises
The camera system is less versatile than what you get from a camera-focused flagship, according to Android Central. The same review reports two Android version updates and five years of security updates. That is a shorter major-version commitment than some mainstream flagships, so factor it into a four- or five-year ownership plan.
The fan can be audible, particularly at its higher setting. Tom’s Guide flags dust-resistance limitations, which are a practical consequence of providing an opening for airflow. Do not treat the phone like a sealed, water-resistant handset merely because it has gaming-focused hardware. Avoid using the fan in dusty environments, keep the intake unobstructed and follow the manufacturer’s protection instructions for your region.
Best alternative: ASUS ROG Phone 9 Pro with AeroActive Cooler X Pro
The ASUS ROG Phone 9 Pro is the strongest alternative for buyers who value ASUS’s gaming software, controls and accessory ecosystem. Tom’s Guide recommends it for pure gaming ability when tested with the AeroActive Cooler X Pro attached.

An external cooler can use a larger fan and place the coldest contact directly over the phone’s hottest area. You can remove it for everyday use, eliminating fan noise and extra thickness when you are messaging or taking photos. ASUS’s accessory ecosystem can also provide physical controls and a more console-like setup.

- Linear damping telescopic clip: easy to adjust, pay attention! Suitable for all types of mobile phones with a width of "6 to 7.5 centimeters". NEVEIKIA mobile phone cooling can cool down when connected to a power source.(Attention: It is best to remove the phone case when using it for a better experience!)
- Quick cooling: Dual engine, cooling principle is the same as a refrigerator, not ordinary fan cooling. It can cool your phone in "3 to 5 seconds", avoiding overheating and ensuring a stable live streaming or gaming experience.
- Dual power supply design: supports powering the radiator through a mobile phone, and can also be connected to an external power source for use; When connected to an external power source, it can provide stable power to both the radiator and the phone, avoiding interruption of heat dissipation due to insufficient power during long-term use and ensuring continuous and stable heat dissipation performance.
- Silent engine cooling: The fan with dual silent design can effectively dissipate air from all directions, providing stronger cooling effect without interfering with your games or Vlog programs.
- Expanded cooling area: Approximately 2.82x1.29 inches of extreme thermal conductivity cooling area, covering the CPU and battery module, protecting your phone from blackening or sudden shutdown.
What you give up
- The AeroActive Cooler X Pro is a separate purchase and must be attached for active cooling. The phone is therefore accessory-dependent, unlike the REDMAGIC 11 Pro.
- The cooler adds bulk and weight, and its cable or connector can interfere with some cases and grips.
- You must carry and maintain another accessory. If it is left at home, the phone falls back to its internal passive cooling.
- Tom’s Guide’s recommendation reflects a setup that includes the cooler; do not assume the same sustained behavior from the handset by itself.
Choose the ROG Phone 9 Pro when ASUS’s software features and removable cooler matter more to you than having a fan permanently inside the phone. Choose REDMAGIC when integrated cooling is the non-negotiable requirement.
Best mainstream comparator: Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra
The Galaxy S26 Ultra illustrates what a very capable non-gaming flagship can do without active cooling. Tom’s Guide reports that its enlarged vapor chamber kept the phone cool during an hour of Genshin Impact testing. It has no internal fan.
That result does not make it an active-cooling phone. Passive cooling can be preferable for daily use because it is silent, has no intake to collect dust and is easier to protect against water. It can also be a better all-round choice if camera quality, software support and a conventional flagship design outweigh the need for the highest sustained gaming output. The trade-off is that a passive system has no powered mechanism to keep extracting heat after the chamber and frame have warmed up.

How to choose between integrated, accessory and passive cooling
Pick integrated cooling when sustained frame rate is the priority
Integrated active cooling is the simplest setup for ranked matches, emulation or long RPG sessions. You do not have to remember a clip-on device, and the phone’s thermal controls can be designed around its own fan and coolant loop. The REDMAGIC 11 Pro is the only option in this comparison that combines a built-in fan with liquid circulation.

Pick an external cooler when flexibility matters
A clip-on fan makes sense if you want a normal phone for most of the day and extra cooling only at a desk or during tournaments. It can be replaced or upgraded independently of the handset. Budget for the accessory, a compatible case or grip and the inconvenience of attaching it before play.
Pick passive cooling when silence and simplicity matter
A passive flagship avoids fan noise and moving parts. It is easier to use in quiet rooms, less exposed to dust through an intake and generally more conventional as a camera and productivity phone. Its cooling ceiling is lower under continuous maximum load, so it is not the right category if preventing long-session throttling is your primary goal.
What to check before buying
- Session length: compare behavior after 30 to 60 minutes, not only the first benchmark run. A phone that is fast for five minutes may slow down later.
- Airflow: confirm where the intake and exhaust are located. A case, finger or tabletop can block them.
- Noise tolerance: a fan is audible. If you play beside a microphone or in a quiet bedroom, test the sound at the cooling setting you expect to use.
- Battery and charging: a larger cell gives more endurance, but gaming while charging adds heat. The REDMAGIC 11 Pro’s 7,500 mAh cell and bundled 80 W charger are unusual advantages, not evidence that charging heat disappears.
- Controls: shoulder buttons can be valuable in shooters and action games, but verify that your preferred titles support the mapping and sensitivity options.
- Software lifespan: Android Central reports two Android updates and five years of security updates for the REDMAGIC 11 Pro. Compare that commitment with how long you plan to keep the phone.
- Cameras and everyday use: gaming phones often prioritize cooling, triggers and battery capacity over camera versatility. Android Central specifically describes the REDMAGIC cameras as mediocre in versatility.
- Protection and environment: Tom’s Guide flags dust-resistance limitations for the REDMAGIC design. Keep the intake clean and avoid assuming the same sealing as a conventional passive flagship.
- Regional availability: pricing, memory configurations, charger bundles and network-band support can vary by country. Confirm the specification and included charger for your market before ordering.
How to get the best sustained performance
- Install system and game updates: thermal behavior and frame-pacing fixes can arrive through firmware and game patches.
- Remove a restrictive case: use a case with a clear opening around the REDMAGIC intake, or remove it during maximum-load sessions if the manufacturer permits.
- Start with a stable environment: play in a cool, ventilated room and keep the phone out of direct sunlight. Ambient heat reduces the margin available to the cooler.
- Use the phone’s gaming mode: enable the performance profile, configure shoulder controls and set a frame-rate target your game can sustain. Maximum settings are not always the smoothest settings.
- Keep airflow clear: do not cover the intake with your palm, bedding or a stand. For an accessory cooler, make firm contact over the intended cooling area.
- Watch temperature and frame pacing: a stable 60 FPS is usually preferable to a short burst of 90 or 120 FPS followed by severe throttling. Use the game’s frame-time graph when available.
- Manage charging heat: if you need to play while charging, lower brightness, choose a sustainable frame-rate cap and ensure the charger and cable do not obstruct the phone or cooler.
- Clean carefully: dust around an intake can reduce airflow. Follow the manufacturer’s cleaning guidance; do not push liquid or sharp objects into the opening.
Common buying mistakes
Confusing a vapor chamber with active cooling
A vapor chamber is a heat spreader, not a fan. The Galaxy S26 Ultra’s cool result in a one-hour test demonstrates the value of a large passive system, but it does not mean the phone has active heat extraction.

Reading peak benchmark scores as long-session results
Peak scores describe a short workload. For mobile gaming, sustained frame rate, frame-time consistency and surface temperature after an hour are more useful. Android Central’s REDMAGIC results are valuable because the review also comments on extended play and throttling.
Ignoring the sound and airflow trade-off
Active cooling requires moving air. A phone can be thermally stronger and acoustically louder at the same time. Decide whether the performance gain justifies fan noise for your room, microphone setup and game type.
Verdict
Buy the REDMAGIC 11 Pro if your defining requirement is a built-in fan and the ability to sustain demanding games without carrying a separate cooler. Its liquid loop, micropump, vapor chamber, 144 Hz display, shoulder buttons, 7,500 mAh battery and 80 W bundled charger form the most complete active-cooling package in this comparison. Accept the audible fan, dust-management requirements, less versatile cameras and shorter Android-update commitment.
