Moving between iOS and Android can change how your phone fits with your other devices and services, so compare the whole setup rather than choosing from a feature list alone. Set a realistic budget before comparing offers
Compare the full price for the storage tier you want, not just an advertised monthly payment. Check whether an offer requires a trade-in, a new line, a particular carrier plan or a long payment term. Pick a size you can comfortably carry
Screen size affects more than viewing area: it also shapes how the phone feels in your hand and pocket. The iPhone 18 Pro and Galaxy S26 are listed at 6.3 inches, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max and Galaxy S26 Ultra are 6.9 inches. A large display may suit reading, video or detailed work, but only if you are comfortable carrying and handling the phone. Match the camera to what you actually shoot
Choose according to the photos and videos you take. The Galaxy S26 listing includes a main camera, an ultrawide and a 3x telephoto camera; the S26 Ultra’s additional camera is a point of difference in TechRadar’s comparison with the iPhone 18 Pro Max. More lenses or more megapixels do not, by themselves, prove better image quality. Consider whether you need zoom, wide landscapes, low-light stills or video, and look for examples from the exact model in those situations.

Read battery figures in context
Battery claims from different sources are not automatically comparable. Apple says the iPhone 18 Pro lasts up to 24 hours and the Pro Max up to 30 hours in typical use; those are manufacturer estimates. Tom’s Guide reports 11 hours 28 minutes for the Galaxy S26 in its battery test, but the cited information does not provide a comparable test protocol for the iPhone figures. Don’t treat those numbers as a head-to-head ranking. Your usage, network and settings can affect how long a phone lasts.
Check special features and local support
The Galaxy S26 Ultra’s S Pen and Privacy Display may be decisive if you take handwritten notes or want its screen-privacy feature. The iPhone 18 Pro Max supports MagSafe, which may matter if you use compatible accessories. Before purchase, also confirm that the local model supports your carrier’s network and that the features you want are available in your region.
