Best PEAK Settings on Switch 2 for Camera Control, Comfort, and Motion Sickness

By Freedom251 Team · · 9 min read

For the most comfortable PEAK setup on Switch 2, change the options before you join a run: turn Reduce Camera Bobbing on, raise Field Of View above its 70 default only as far as the wider view feels comfortable, lower Climbing Extra Field Of View from its 40 default toward 0, and enable Photosensitivity Mode if screenshake bothers you. Start controller sensitivity low and increase it in small steps.

These changes target the four movements most likely to affect comfort: camera bobbing, the extra FOV movement during climbing, screenshake, and abrupt turning. PEAK uses a physics-driven third-person camera, so being behind the character does not remove motion-sickness risk; the camera can still move while your inner ear remains still.

Recommended comfort-first settings

Open PEAK’s settings from the main menu before starting a run. The camera-bobbing option cannot be changed once a run has begun, so checking the menu in the lobby or after loading into a level is too late for that setting.

Setting Starting value Comfort-first change Reason
Reduce Camera Bobbing Off by default On Reduces the climbing-related bob and sway of the camera.
Field Of View 70 Move above 70; test toward 100 if comfortable A wider view can make turning and spatial awareness feel less cramped.
Climbing Extra Field Of View 40 Lower it, moving toward 0 when needed Reduces the additional FOV kick while climbing.
Photosensitivity Mode Not specified in the available documentation On when screenshake is a trigger Targets visual effects that can aggravate sensitivity.
Controller sensitivity Documented range: 0.10–5.00 Begin low, then raise gradually Prevents sudden turns while preserving precise camera control.

The exact best values are personal. The documented sensitivity range does not establish one setting that works for every player, and the available sources do not provide an authoritative Switch 2-specific table proving that every PC option, default, or label is identical on the Switch 2 release.

How to change PEAK’s settings before a run

  1. Launch PEAK and remain at the main menu rather than joining a run immediately.
  2. Open the game’s Settings menu.
  3. Find Reduce Camera Bobbing and switch it to On. It is off by default and must be set before the run starts.
  4. Adjust Field Of View upward from 70 in a small increment. Stop if the wider view makes the edges of the screen feel uncomfortable.
  5. Lower Climbing Extra Field Of View from 40. If climbing still produces a noticeable visual lurch, continue toward 0.
  6. Turn Photosensitivity Mode on if flashes or screenshake make you uncomfortable.
  7. Set controller sensitivity near the low end of the 0.10–5.00 documented range. Play a short section, then raise it one small step at a time until ordinary turns feel responsive without becoming abrupt.
  8. Save or apply the settings, then begin a run. Recheck the menu after a game update because settings and defaults can change.

Why PEAK can cause dizziness even in third person

PEAK’s camera is tied to the character’s physical movement. Climbing produces bobbing and sway, and the game can add a climbing-specific FOV change and screenshake. Your eyes therefore see acceleration, rotation, or zoom-like movement while your inner ear is stationary. That sensory mismatch can feel like dizziness, nausea, eye strain, headache, or disorientation.

Third-person perspective may give you a view of the character, but it does not keep the camera fixed. A camera that swings behind the character, changes FOV while climbing, or shakes during an impact can still be a trigger. These are reported comfort triggers rather than a publisher-measured statistic about how many players experience motion sickness.

Choosing a field of view that remains comfortable

Why raise the main FOV above 70

The documented default for Field Of View is 70. A narrow view can make the world feel zoomed in, leaving less peripheral context when you turn or move around obstacles. Increasing FOV can show more of the surroundings and may make camera control feel less confined.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not treat 100 as a mandatory target. The comfort guide identifies 100 as a direction to try, not a universal prescription. Increase the value in small steps and spend enough time walking, turning, and climbing to judge it. If the wider view makes objects at the edges stretch or makes the image feel faster, return to the previous value.

Why lower Climbing Extra Field Of View

Climbing Extra Field Of View has a documented default of 40. It adds a separate FOV change during climbing, so a player can tolerate the ordinary camera yet feel a sudden visual kick whenever a climb begins or changes direction. Lowering this option reduces that transition. Move toward 0 when the climbing change itself is the problem.

Main FOV and climbing extra FOV solve different problems. Raising the first can improve awareness during ordinary movement; lowering the second limits the special visual motion attached to climbing. Adjust them independently instead of assuming that one slider replaces the other.

Reducing bobbing, sway, and screenshake

Reduce Camera Bobbing

Reduce Camera Bobbing is the most important first change for a player who feels motion from climbing. It is off by default, and the setting cannot be changed after a run has started. Make it part of your pre-run checklist rather than trying to find it after symptoms begin.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The option addresses camera movement; it does not promise to remove every visual effect. Climbing FOV movement and screenshake are separate comfort variables, which is why they should be adjusted separately.

Photosensitivity Mode

Turn Photosensitivity Mode on when screenshake, flashes, or other intense visual changes are a trigger. It is a separate control from camera bobbing. If the camera feels steady but impacts or rapid visual effects remain uncomfortable, this is the next setting to test.

The setting was documented as introduced in version 1.27.a on August 27, 2025. Menu wording and availability can differ after updates, particularly on a console release whose exact parity with PC settings has not been authoritatively documented.

Finding controller sensitivity without losing precision

Controller sensitivity controls how quickly the camera responds to stick movement. Too low, and you may have to hold the stick for a long time to turn; too high, and a small thumb movement can produce an abrupt rotation that is unpleasant or difficult to aim.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Begin near the low end of the documented 0.10–5.00 range.
  2. Use the same sensitivity while walking, looking around, and making a controlled climb. A value that feels fine in an empty area may feel too fast when the camera is already moving.
  3. Raise the value by one small increment only after you can turn without overshooting.
  4. Stop increasing when you can face a nearby object promptly while still making small corrections.
  5. If dizziness appears after several minutes rather than immediately, lower the value again and shorten play sessions while testing.

There is no source-supported “best” number for every player. Sensitivity should be treated as a control-speed preference, not a motion-sickness cure. Camera movement from climbing and screenshake can remain uncomfortable even at a low stick sensitivity.

Two practical profiles to compare

Use these profiles as starting points, then change one control at a time. Comparing them over a short, repeatable route makes it easier to identify the actual trigger.

Axis Comfort-first profile Control-first profile When to choose it
Camera bobbing Reduce Camera Bobbing: On On unless you have confirmed the movement does not bother you Keep it on for the least camera motion; only test otherwise if you want the unmodified movement.
Main FOV Slightly above 70, only as high as comfortable Move farther toward 100 if peripheral awareness is more important than visual stability Use the lower comfortable value when wide-angle distortion feels unpleasant.
Climbing Extra FOV Low, moving toward 0 Higher only if you tolerate the climbing transition Lower it when climbing creates a distinct zoom or kick.
Screenshake Photosensitivity Mode: On when triggered Leave it off only when effects are comfortable Prioritize the mode whenever flashes or shaking cause symptoms.
Turning response Low sensitivity, raised gradually Higher sensitivity, stopped before turns become hard to control Choose based on whether precision or rapid camera movement is the limiting factor.

Switch 2 controls that complement the in-game options

Switch 2’s system accessibility controls can make the physical act of playing easier even though they do not replace PEAK’s camera settings. Nintendo’s accessibility documentation states: “You can change the button mapping on each controller to your liking. Save your favorite settings and use them anytime.”

Remap buttons for less thumb strain

Use the console’s controller button-mapping settings to put jump, interact, or grab actions where your hand can reach them without an awkward thumb stretch. A comfortable layout can reduce accidental stick movement while you reach for a face button. Save the layout so it can be reused rather than rebuilding it for every session.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Remapping changes the physical control location; it does not change PEAK’s camera speed or FOV. Keep the in-game sensitivity test separate from the button-layout test so you know which change helped.

Vibration and calibration

Switch 2 system settings also include controller-vibration controls and calibration. If vibration adds to discomfort or makes it harder to keep a steady grip, test the console’s vibration setting separately from PEAK’s visual options. Calibration can help when a stick does not return cleanly to center, but it cannot remove camera bobbing, climbing FOV movement, or screenshake.

Mouse sensitivity

Nintendo documents mouse-sensitivity controls in Switch 2 system settings. That documentation does not establish that the Switch 2 version of PEAK exposes mouse input or that its numeric values match controller sensitivity. Treat it as a console-level option for compatible input rather than evidence of a PEAK-specific setting.

A step-by-step motion-sickness troubleshooting plan

Change one group of settings at a time and stop as soon as symptoms become significant. Do not keep testing through nausea or disorientation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

1. Remove the largest camera movements

Before a new run, enable Reduce Camera Bobbing. Lower Climbing Extra Field Of View toward 0. These changes target the two camera motions most directly associated with climbing.

2. Address screenshake

Enable Photosensitivity Mode when impacts, shaking, or flashes are the part that causes discomfort. If the symptoms remain, avoid stacking several other changes at once; you need to know whether the visual effect or the underlying camera motion is responsible.

3. Test the main FOV

Start just above 70. Play a short, familiar route with ordinary movement before climbing. If the view feels cramped, raise FOV in a small step. If the edges feel distorted or movement appears faster, return to the prior value rather than continuing toward 100.

4. Slow the camera response

Lower controller sensitivity toward the low end of 0.10–5.00. Make deliberate turns and small corrections. Raise it only when the low value prevents you from facing a target comfortably.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

5. Shorten the test

Use brief sessions and take a break at the first sign of eye strain, dizziness, headache, or nausea. A setting that feels acceptable for two minutes may become uncomfortable over a longer climb, so evaluate both immediate and delayed reactions.

6. Recheck after updates

If a patch changes the menu, defaults, or camera behavior, repeat the setup from the main menu. The available documentation does not establish a permanent Switch 2-specific settings table, so an update can make an earlier combination inaccurate.

What to do when the setting is missing

PC-oriented guides document several PEAK options and their introduction dates, but exact parity with the Switch 2 release remains unresolved. If you cannot find a named option:

  • Confirm that you are in the game’s main-menu settings rather than a pause menu opened during a run.
  • Look for nearby camera, accessibility, or graphics sections; labels may be grouped differently after an update.
  • Exit the run and check again, because Reduce Camera Bobbing cannot be changed after the run has started.
  • Compare the current version number and menu wording with the game’s latest update information instead of assuming the console build has every PC control.
  • Use the settings that are present—lower sensitivity, a tolerable FOV, and console button remapping—without assuming a missing option has an equivalent hidden value.

When to stop adjusting and seek a different solution

Settings can reduce visual triggers, but they cannot guarantee that PEAK will be comfortable for every player. Stop playing if symptoms are strong, persistent, or worsening. Take a break and return only when you feel normal. If motion sickness occurs across games or continues after stopping, discuss it with a qualified health professional; this guide cannot diagnose the cause.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A controller, grip, headset, display filter, or motion-sickness product is not required to apply the settings above. The useful first changes are software controls and a comfortable button layout.

Version and evidence notes

The available PEAK settings references record the following introduction points: Reduce Camera Bobbing in version 1.8 on July 21, 2025; Climbing Extra Field Of View in version 1.10.a on July 30, 2025; and Photosensitivity Mode in version 1.27.a on August 27, 2025. Those dates describe the documented setting history, not a guarantee that the Switch 2 release uses identical defaults or menu placement.

Because an authoritative Switch 2-specific PEAK settings table is not available, verify the actual labels, ranges, and defaults shown on your console after each update. The practical order remains the same: reduce bobbing, limit climbing FOV movement, control screenshake, choose a tolerable main FOV, and tune sensitivity gradually.
