For the smoothest starting point, run Rescue Ops: Wildfire at 1920×1080 on the medium or high preset, cap the frame rate at a level your PC can sustain, and tune while watching Steam’s FPS, CPU, GPU and RAM counters. Lower resolution or expensive effects when the GPU is fully loaded; reduce simulation-heavy options and the cap when the CPU is the limit. Test every change during a large, active fire rather than in a quiet menu scene.

Rescue Ops: Wildfire is an Exkee action, simulation and strategy game planned for Q1 2027 on Steam. It is not yet available for purchase, but a public demo/playtest is available from its Steam page. The build is still being optimized, so the settings and hardware requirements described here are a current baseline, not a final launch guarantee.

What hardware does Rescue Ops: Wildfire require?

Steam currently lists a Windows 11 requirement, 16 GB of RAM, DirectX 12 and 50 GB of storage. The minimum processor and graphics targets are substantially higher than those of a lightweight strategy game: an Intel Core i5-8700K or AMD Ryzen 7 2700X paired with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 or AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT.

The recommended listing moves to an Intel Core i7-12700K or AMD Ryzen 7 5700X and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 or AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT, while retaining 16 GB of RAM. These are the published targets; they are not a promise of a particular frame rate, resolution or visual preset.

Exkee’s FAQ cautions that a lower configuration may launch the game while performance is significantly affected. It also says optimization phases are planned and that minimum requirements may evolve. Treat the published list as the best current compatibility guide, not as a fixed final specification for the 2027 release.

Why performance changes during a wildfire

The game’s fire system is dynamic. Flames spread and evolve according to wind, terrain, vegetation and weather, so the workload is not constant. A quiet deployment area can run smoothly while a broad, wind-driven fire with dense vegetation creates a very different CPU and GPU load.

This is why a menu check or a short walk through an unburned area is a poor tuning test. Reproduce the same demanding situation when comparing settings: a large active fire, the same camera direction and, when relevant, the same co-op activity. Compare sustained frame time and FPS, not a single peak number.

Set a reliable baseline before changing individual options

  1. Update the platform first. Use Windows 11 as listed by Steam, install current graphics drivers for your NVIDIA or AMD card, and close overlays or background applications that are consuming CPU or memory.
  2. Start at 1920×1080. Select the game’s medium or high preset, whichever is offered by the current playtest build. This gives you a known image-quality baseline without assuming that an unpublished “low” preset is correctly balanced.
  3. Choose a sustainable frame-rate cap. Set a cap your system can hold during a large fire. A stable cap with even frame times feels smoother than an uncapped rate that repeatedly falls during simulation spikes. If the build exposes both an in-game cap and a driver cap, use one rather than stacking several limiters.
  4. Enable Steam’s performance monitor. Steam’s documented overlay counters show FPS, CPU, GPU and RAM use. Keep the monitor visible while you reproduce a demanding scene, then note the values before making a change.
  5. Change one setting at a time. Record the original value, the new value and what happened in the same scene. Restart the test if the fire has spread differently; dynamic conditions can otherwise make a change appear better or worse than it is.

There is no official per-setting FPS benchmark or complete published list of graphics toggles for the current build. The sequence above is therefore a controlled starting workflow, not a measured Rescue Ops preset.

How to tell whether the GPU or CPU is limiting you

When the GPU is saturated

If Steam’s monitor shows the GPU spending most of its time at or near full utilization while CPU use is lower, reduce the amount of work each frame asks the graphics card to do. Lower the resolution first or reduce the most expensive visual-effects options available in that build. Keep texture quality higher when your card has enough video memory: textures affect memory use and image detail differently from effects and resolution.

After each adjustment, replay the same active-fire scenario. If GPU utilization falls and frame times become steadier without an unacceptable loss of clarity, retain the change. If utilization remains high, continue with the next expensive effect rather than dropping every option at once.

When the CPU is saturated

Large fires can increase simulation work even when the image itself is not especially complex. If CPU use is the limiting counter, lowering resolution may have little effect. Reduce simulation-heavy distance, crowd, vegetation or effects controls if those controls exist in the current playtest. A lower frame-rate cap can also reduce the number of simulation and rendering updates required each second, improving consistency during spikes.

CPU-limited stutter may appear only when the fire front expands, when many units are active or during co-op. Test those situations specifically; a quiet solo scene can conceal the problem.

When memory is the constraint

Steam’s RAM counter helps identify a system approaching its 16 GB physical-memory limit. Close browsers, launchers and recording tools before lowering image quality. If the build still approaches the limit, reduce texture quality or other memory-heavy options only after checking whether the GPU is actually constrained. Do not infer a memory problem from a brief loading spike; look for repeatable stutter during play.

Recommended starting profiles

Systems around the minimum specification

Use 1920×1080 with the medium preset if available, apply a conservative cap, and expect to reduce effects or simulation-heavy controls in large fires. The RTX 3060/RX 5700 XT class and the i5-8700K/Ryzen 7 2700X class are the published minimum, so leave headroom rather than targeting an uncapped rate. Test both solo and co-op situations before deciding that a setting is stable.

Systems around the recommended specification

Begin at 1920×1080 on high and raise resolution only after confirming stable frame times in an active-fire test. The RTX 3080/RX 6800 XT and i7-12700K/Ryzen 7 5700X class are the published recommendations, but dynamic spread can still create short CPU or GPU spikes. Keep a cap that the system can sustain instead of letting the game oscillate between very high and sharply lower rates.

Systems below the minimum

A lower configuration may launch, according to Exkee’s FAQ, but performance could be significantly affected. Start with the lowest resolution and visual preset the build provides, cap the rate, and use the Steam counters to identify the limiting component. If heavy-fire scenes remain erratic after reducing the relevant options, the hardware is outside the game’s current target and a generic “low” preset cannot guarantee smooth play.

A step-by-step tuning loop for the playtest

  1. Pick a repeatable scene. Choose a mission or area with a large active fire. Note weather, wind, vegetation density and whether other players or units are present.
  2. Capture a baseline. Run the scene long enough to pass the initial camera movement and record average-feeling FPS, the lowest sustained behavior you notice, and Steam’s CPU, GPU and RAM readings.
  3. Classify the bottleneck. High GPU use points to resolution or visual effects. High CPU use during spread or unit activity points to simulation, distance, crowd, vegetation or effects controls. High RAM use points to background applications or texture and asset-memory pressure.
  4. Make one change. Lower the single option most related to the bottleneck, or lower the frame-rate cap for a CPU-limited system.
  5. Repeat the same test. Compare frame-time consistency, image clarity, utilization and stutter. Because fire behavior changes, repeat the run if the wind or spread pattern is materially different.
  6. Keep a written profile. Record resolution, preset, cap and individual overrides. This makes it easy to restore a known-good setup after a playtest update.

Fixes for common low-FPS and stutter symptoms

Low FPS everywhere

  • Confirm that the system meets the current Windows 11, CPU, GPU, RAM, DirectX 12 and storage requirements.
  • Use 1920×1080 and the medium preset, then inspect GPU utilization.
  • If the GPU is saturated, lower resolution or the heaviest effects before reducing textures.
  • If the CPU is saturated, lower simulation-related options that the build exposes and use a lower cap.

Stutter only during large fires

  • Run the test with Steam’s CPU and GPU counters visible.
  • Reduce distance, crowd, vegetation or effects controls if CPU use rises during spread.
  • Lower expensive visual effects if GPU use spikes instead.
  • Use a sustainable cap and retest in the same type of fire; a quiet scene does not validate this fix.

Stutter in co-op but not solo

Co-op can add units, effects and simulation events. Compare CPU and GPU readings in the same location with the same camera view. If CPU use rises, prioritize simulation-heavy settings and a lower cap. If GPU use rises, lower resolution or effects. Keep the co-op test separate from a solo benchmark so you do not mistake a different workload for a graphics regression.

Image looks soft after lowering resolution

Restore 1920×1080 if that is your target display resolution and reduce the most expensive effects instead. Keep textures higher when video memory allows, because texture quality can preserve surface detail without removing as many pixels from the entire frame.

Performance changes after a playtest update

Recheck your written profile and repeat the demanding-fire test. Exkee says optimization phases are planned and that minimum requirements may evolve, so a new build can alter both performance and available controls. Do not assume an older cap or preset remains optimal.

How to judge whether a setting change helped

Use five checks together: sustained frame time and FPS in the same demanding scene, image clarity at the chosen resolution, GPU utilization, CPU utilization and whether co-op or large fires introduce stutter. A higher peak FPS is not an improvement if the frame time becomes uneven during the part of the game that matters most.

No official benchmark numbers are currently published. Avoid treating a counter reading from a menu, a quiet area or a single short run as a game-wide performance claim. The useful result is a repeatable profile that remains comfortable when fire behavior, weather, terrain and player activity become demanding.

What to expect before the 2027 release

Rescue Ops: Wildfire is still unreleased, and the public playtest represents a work-in-progress build. Steam’s current requirements identify the RTX 3060 or RX 5700 XT with 16 GB of RAM and Windows 11 as the minimum target, while the RTX 3080 or RX 6800 XT with the listed higher-tier processors is the recommended class. Exkee has stated that optimization work will continue and that requirements can change.

Use the playtest to validate your own hardware rather than extrapolating from another game or from a calm scene. Keep notes on the build, scene and settings so you can distinguish a real optimization change from the naturally variable workload of a spreading fire.
