Best PC Settings for Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed

There is no single best preset for every PC in Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed. Start with a built-in preset that matches your hardware and monitor resolution, then change one option at a time while watching image quality and frame pacing. The game exposes TAA quality levels, XeSS 1.3 upscaling, V-sync, a 15–120 FPS cap or an unlocked mode, and a View Distance setting that also determines anisotropic filtering. Because no controlled GPU-by-GPU benchmarks are available, treat the profiles below as a careful tuning method rather than a promise of a particular frame rate.

What “best settings” means for this game

Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is a single-player 3D platformer developed by Purple Lamp and published by THQ Nordic. The Steam listing gives September 24, 2024 as the release date and describes a rebuilt adventure in which Mickey uses a brush to alter Wasteland. On PC, “best” depends on three things that can conflict: the clarity of edges and textures, the resolution being rendered, and how consistently frames arrive.

A higher preset can improve detail, but it is not automatically better if it causes uneven frame delivery. Upscaling can make a demanding resolution practical, but it can also change fine-edge clarity. V-sync can remove visible tearing, while a frame cap can trade peak frame rate for steadier pacing and lower heat. The settings menu lets you make those trade-offs yourself; the available sources do not establish a universal Ultra recommendation or measured FPS gains for particular graphics cards.

Check your PC against the published requirements

The following figures come from the Windows Steam/THQ Nordic listing accessed in 2026. They define the listed hardware baseline, not a guaranteed frame rate, preset, or resolution.

#1 Best Overall
Logitech G F310 Wired Gamepad Controller Console - Blue/Black | Console-like layout, 4-switch D-pad
  • With broad game support, the Logitech Gamepad F310 works with old standbys to today's biggest titles, so it's easy to set up and use with your favorite games.
  • Profiler software allows the gamepad to be programmed to perform keyboard and mouse commands for games without gamepad support.* * Requires software installation.
  • A familiar control layout that doesn't require a learning curve to be able to use, with all the same buttons as on an Xbox 360.
  • The unique floating D-pad rests on four switches-instead of a single pivot point-making it responsive to quick changes in direction.
  • The six-foot cord lets you lean back and play a comfortable distance from your PC monitor.
Component Minimum Recommended
Operating system Windows 10, 64-bit Windows 10, 64-bit
Processor AMD FX-4300 or Intel Core i3-4130 AMD FX-8300 or Intel Core i5-3570K
Memory 8 GB RAM 8 GB RAM
Graphics GeForce GTX 960 or Radeon R9 380 Radeon RX 570 or GeForce GTX 1050 Ti
Graphics API DirectX 11 DirectX 11
Storage 28 GB available space 28 GB available space

If your computer is near the minimum tier, begin conservatively and use the monitor’s native resolution only if frame delivery remains acceptable. If it is around or above the recommended tier, begin at a medium or high preset and test your target resolution before raising individual options. The listing does not define what it considers “recommended” in FPS terms, so do not read the recommended column as a guarantee of Ultra settings.

Three sensible starting profiles

These are starting points derived from the published requirements and the controls documented by PCGamingWiki. They are not benchmark-tested recipes.

System situation First step What to adjust next
Near minimum requirements Choose a lower built-in preset at the display’s native resolution. Test XeSS; if pacing is still poor, lower image-quality controls one at a time and then consider a lower render resolution.
Near recommended requirements Start at Medium or High and test the resolution you actually intend to play. Raise View Distance or TAA only after confirming stable frame delivery; use a cap if an uncapped rate fluctuates.
Clearly above recommended Start at High, then compare Epic/Ultra visually at your target resolution. Keep the setting only when the image improvement is visible and pacing remains consistent; otherwise step back one level.

For each profile, allow a repeatable test: walk through the same busy area, rotate the camera, and perform actions that previously exposed hitching. Change only one setting between runs. That makes it possible to tell whether an adjustment helped instead of attributing a random improvement to the wrong option.

Resolution and XeSS: decide what the game should render

Use the monitor’s native resolution as the reference

Native resolution is the clearest baseline because the output pixels line up with the panel. Set it first if your hardware can maintain the pacing you want. A lower output resolution may increase headroom, but it can look softer when scaled to a higher-resolution display. Do not compare a preset change and a resolution change in the same test; they affect different parts of the image.

Use XeSS when rendering the target resolution is too expensive

PCGamingWiki records XeSS 1.3 as an available upscaler. It renders internally at a lower resolution and reconstructs the selected output resolution. The sources document the feature but do not provide a controlled quality or performance comparison for this game, so evaluate it on your own display. Look at thin brush effects, character outlines, distant geometry, and movement rather than judging from a paused scene alone.

  1. Set the desired output resolution and a reasonable built-in preset.
  2. Play a repeatable section with XeSS disabled and note clarity and pacing.
  3. Enable XeSS 1.3 and repeat the same route without changing another option.
  4. Keep it enabled only if the reconstructed image is acceptable and pacing improves enough to matter; otherwise return to native rendering and reduce another quality control.

XeSS is therefore a tool for creating headroom, not a guaranteed upgrade. A lower-quality reconstruction that still produces uneven delivery is not a better setting than a sharper native image at a stable rate.

TAA quality: control edge stability and softness

The PC version exposes TAA levels from Low through Ultra. Temporal anti-aliasing uses information from successive frames to smooth jagged edges, so its appearance is most obvious while the camera or characters move. Lower levels can look crisper in a still image but may show more shimmer; higher levels can reduce crawling edges but may appear softer. No source supplies measured FPS differences among the TAA levels in Rebrushed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A practical TAA test

  1. Stand near high-contrast edges such as platforms, rails, or character silhouettes.
  2. Pan the camera slowly, then move through the scene at normal speed.
  3. Compare Low, Medium, High, and Ultra without changing resolution or XeSS.
  4. Choose the lowest level that keeps distracting shimmer under control, unless a higher level clearly looks better on your display and pacing remains steady.

Do not assume Ultra TAA is the correct choice simply because it is the highest label. The useful setting is the one that gives you acceptable motion stability at your chosen output resolution.

View Distance also determines anisotropic filtering

In the documented configuration, anisotropic filtering is linked to View Distance rather than exposed as an entirely independent quality choice. The relationship is:

View Distance level Associated anisotropic filtering
Low None
Medium 4×
High 8×
Epic or Ultra 16×

This is a documented mapping, not a claim that every player should select a particular level. View Distance affects how far scene detail is maintained, while anisotropic filtering makes surfaces viewed at an angle—such as floors and paths—look clearer into the distance. When testing it, inspect angled textures as well as pop-in. If a lower View Distance produces an image you find distracting, raise it before changing TAA; if the distant detail is not important to you, the lower level may leave more hardware headroom.

V-sync and the frame-rate cap

The game provides V-sync and an optional frame-rate cap from 15 to 120 FPS, plus an unlocked option. These controls address different preferences:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • V-sync: synchronizes presentation with the display’s refresh cycle to avoid visible tearing. It can add latency or make uneven delivery more noticeable, depending on the system and display.
  • Frame cap: limits the maximum rate. A cap can prevent the GPU from rendering frames your display cannot show and can make pacing more predictable. The best cap depends on your monitor and the rate your PC can actually sustain.
  • Unlocked: removes the in-game ceiling. This is useful for testing headroom, but an uncapped rate can fluctuate and consume more power.

Choose a cap by observing sustained behavior

  1. Start with V-sync in the state you normally prefer and use the unlocked option briefly as a diagnostic.
  2. Play a demanding route and watch for repeated drops, not just the highest number you see.
  3. Select a cap below the rate your system can sustain in that route. The game’s menu allows any listed value from 15 through 120 FPS.
  4. Repeat the route. If delivery is steadier and input still feels responsive, keep the cap; if not, test another cap or revisit image-quality settings.

Because no controlled benchmark establishes a best cap for specific GPUs or resolutions, the correct value is the one your computer can hold consistently in your normal play areas.

A repeatable tuning procedure

Use this order when you want a reliable result instead of changing every slider at once.

  1. Confirm the baseline. Apply a built-in preset, select the monitor’s target output resolution, and record whether the game feels smooth in a repeatable section.
  2. Set presentation controls. Decide whether tearing or latency matters more to you, then configure V-sync. Leave the frame rate unlocked for a short diagnostic run or select a conservative cap if you already know your sustained rate.
  3. Test resolution and XeSS. Keep the preset fixed. Compare native rendering with XeSS 1.3 at the same output resolution, checking moving edges and distant surfaces.
  4. Adjust TAA. Move through the Low-to-Ultra range and select the lowest level that avoids distracting shimmer without unacceptable softness.
  5. Adjust View Distance. Compare distant geometry and angled textures. Remember that this choice also changes filtering from none at Low to 16× at Epic/Ultra.
  6. Retest the cap. After image-quality changes, repeat the demanding route and choose a cap your system can sustain.
  7. Record the final choices. Note resolution, XeSS state, TAA level, View Distance, V-sync, and cap. This makes it easy to restore a known-good configuration after a driver or game update.

If a change does not produce a visible benefit, undo it. The goal is not to maximize every setting; it is to spend hardware headroom where you can see the difference.

How to approach stuttering

PCGamingWiki reports intermittent stuttering associated with shader caching and suggests trying the Steam launch option -d3d11. This is a community-reported workaround, not an official fix, and it may not help every installation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Test the reported workaround safely

  1. Close the game.
  2. In Steam, open the game’s Properties and locate the Launch Options field.
  3. Enter -d3d11, start the game, and repeat the same route where the hitching occurred.
  4. Compare the result with the option removed. Keep it only if stuttering is measurably less disruptive and no new problem appears.

Do not present this option as a universal cure. Shader-related hitching can also vary between areas and between first visits and later visits, so make your comparison on more than one run. If the option changes nothing, remove it and continue tuning the documented graphics controls rather than lowering every setting blindly.

Ultrawide and non-16:9 displays

PCGamingWiki reports Vert- behavior during gameplay on ultrawide displays. In practice, that means the game can preserve the horizontal composition while reducing the visible vertical area compared with a wider field-of-view presentation. Menus and cutscenes may remain 16:9 and show pillarboxing.

The same reference describes an Unreal Engine configuration route for Hor+ ultrawide output. Treat that as an advanced community workaround: configuration edits can be overwritten by updates, may affect menus differently from gameplay, and are not documented by the game’s publisher as a supported setting. Before attempting one, save your existing configuration and verify that you can restore it. If you prefer predictable behavior, use the game’s standard output and accept pillarboxing where it occurs.

Controller and input considerations

PCGamingWiki lists controller support, and the Steam listing identifies the title as single-player. A controller is an optional comfort choice, not a graphics upgrade. Select the device that gives you the most precise camera and brush control, then leave graphics settings unchanged while evaluating it. Buying a controller will not solve stutter, low frame rate, or image softness.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Equating recommended hardware with Ultra performance. The official listing gives component examples but no FPS target or preset guarantee.
  • Changing several settings together. If resolution, XeSS, TAA, and View Distance all change at once, you cannot identify the cause of an improvement or regression.
  • Judging only from a still screenshot. TAA and upscaling differences often appear during camera movement, while frame pacing problems are felt during traversal.
  • Assuming the highest number is always best. Ultra TAA, Epic/Ultra View Distance, and an unlocked frame rate can be worthwhile only when your system sustains them and you prefer their visual result.
  • Using the launch option as an official fix. -d3d11 is a reported workaround with uncertain applicability.
  • Lowering every setting before testing XeSS. If output resolution is your main constraint, upscaling may address it more directly than reducing distant detail or anti-aliasing.

A concise decision guide

If you notice… Try this first Then reassess
Persistent low performance at the starting preset Test XeSS at the same output resolution. If still poor, lower View Distance or another image-quality control one step.
Shimmering edges while moving Raise TAA one level. Check whether the added softness is acceptable before changing resolution.
Soft or unstable reconstructed detail Compare native rendering with XeSS disabled. Use a lower preset or output resolution only if native rendering cannot hold your target pacing.
Texture blur on floors and other angled surfaces Raise View Distance, which also raises anisotropic filtering. Check distant geometry and overall pacing after the change.
Tearing Test V-sync. Pair it with a cap your system can sustain if delivery remains uneven.
Uneven delivery despite a high peak rate Use a lower frame cap. Retest the same route after every image-quality change.
Intermittent hitching associated with shader caching Test the community-reported -d3d11 launch option. Remove it if it does not help or introduces another issue.

What the available evidence can—and cannot—tell you

The Steam/THQ Nordic listing is authoritative for the stated release information and system requirements. PCGamingWiki is useful for documenting the controls, ultrawide behavior, controller support, and the reported stutter workaround, but its observations are community-maintained. Neither source supplies a controlled benchmark mapping individual GPUs and resolutions to FPS, frame-time percentiles, or percentage gains from each setting.

That limitation matters when interpreting online claims that a particular preset is “best.” A recommendation that does not name the GPU, output resolution, display refresh rate, and test area cannot be transferred reliably to your PC. Use the procedure above to create a profile for your own hardware, and judge success by consistent delivery and acceptable image quality rather than by a number borrowed from a different system.

Recommended order of priorities

  1. Meet the display resolution and input preferences that matter to you.
  2. Stabilize frame delivery with a sensible cap and V-sync choice.
  3. Use XeSS only when it produces an acceptable image and useful headroom.
  4. Set TAA for the balance between shimmer and softness you prefer in motion.
  5. Spend remaining headroom on View Distance, remembering its linked filtering levels.
  6. Keep a note of the working configuration so troubleshooting does not require starting over.

This order avoids chasing a maximum preset before the fundamentals—resolution, pacing, and motion clarity—are under control.
