On an RTX 5070, that means targeting 1080p with Medium path tracing; an RTX 5080 targets 1440p with Medium; and an RTX 5090 can target up to 4K with High. If frame pacing is still uneven, disable overlays first, then reduce resolution, shadows, reflections, and volumetric quality.
The title “this Steam spy game” is ambiguous, so this guide assumes you mean 007 First Light, IO Interactive’s current espionage action-adventure. The settings and performance figures below apply to the PC version and should be treated as starting points rather than a guarantee for every mission, driver, or computer.

|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit | Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit |
| Memory | 16 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Storage | 80 GB available on an SSD | 80 GB available on an SSD |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GTX 1660, AMD RX 5700, or an Intel discrete equivalent | NVIDIA RTX 3060 Ti, AMD RX 6700 XT, or an Intel discrete equivalent |
| Processor | Not stated in the supplied Steam requirement summary | Intel Core i5-13500 or AMD Ryzen 5 7600 |
Use the RTX 3060 Ti or RX 6700 XT class as the practical recommended-GPU anchor, not as a promise of 60 fps. Those cards may require lower path tracing, a reduced output resolution, or a more aggressive upscaling mode than the newer RTX 50-series configurations. An SSD and 16 GB of RAM are listed requirements, not optional upgrades.
Apply the official baseline first
- Update the game and your graphics driver. IO Interactive specifically advises bringing both up to date before tuning performance. Restart the PC after a driver update if the installer requests it.
- Open Options → Graphics. Select Restore to defaults before making individual changes. This removes an old or conflicting configuration that could otherwise make troubleshooting misleading.
- Choose the path-tracing level that matches your GPU. Use Medium for RTX 5070 and RTX 5080 systems. Use High primarily with an RTX 5090. If your card is below that class, begin with path tracing disabled or the lowest available level, then increase it only after establishing a stable frame rate.
- Set Resolution scaling to NVIDIA DLSS. Set DLSS Super Resolution to Auto. Auto lets the game select an internal render resolution appropriate to the output and performance target.
- Enable DLSS Multi Frame Generation when your GPU supports it. IO Interactive says 2x frame generation with DLSS Auto should keep its recommended RTX 5070 and RTX 5080 configurations consistently above 60 fps. Treat that as a developer target, not a guaranteed result in every checkpoint.
- Choose VSync according to your display and latency preference. Turn VSync off if you prefer lower input latency and your display’s variable-refresh system handles tearing. Leave it on if visible tearing is more distracting than the small latency cost. IO Interactive presents this as preference-dependent, not a universal performance fix.
Recommended starting profiles
The profiles below translate the developer’s guidance into practical targets. “Base FPS” means the rate produced by normally rendered frames before generated frames are inserted. “Displayed FPS” includes generated frames, so it can be higher without representing the same amount of new game simulation or input sampling.
| Hardware or test | Output resolution | Path tracing | Upscaling | Frame generation | Observed or stated result |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| RTX 5070 desktop | 1080p | Medium | DLSS Super Resolution Auto | DLSS Multi Frame Generation 2x when supported | Approximately 60 fps reported by IO Interactive; with 2x generation and Auto, the developer says the configuration should remain consistently above 60 fps. Exact base FPS is not stated. |
| RTX 5080 desktop | 1440p | Medium | DLSS Super Resolution Auto | DLSS Multi Frame Generation 2x when supported | Approximately 60 fps reported by IO Interactive; with 2x generation and Auto, the developer says the configuration should remain consistently above 60 fps. Exact base FPS is not stated. |
| RTX 5090 desktop | Up to 4K | High | DLSS Super Resolution Auto | Use supported DLSS generation if desired | IO Interactive identifies this as the High path-tracing configuration and says it can target up to 4K. A specific frame-rate figure is not stated. |
| Lower-end Windows desktop | Start at 1080p or lower | Low or disabled, if available | Use the least aggressive mode that keeps frame pacing stable | Only if supported and latency is acceptable | No universal result is established; the RTX 3060 Ti/RX 6700 XT recommendation is the official reference point. |
| Steam Deck test configuration | 1280×800 | Low settings | FSR Performance | Not stated | Worthplaying reported roughly 40–50 fps on its Steam Deck test. This is one review’s observation, not a guarantee for every Deck, scene, or game version. |
| Lower-end Linux test configuration | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | Worthplaying reported 30–40 fps after changing Proton builds. The report does not establish a universal Linux target. |
| Ryzen 7 9800X3D and Radeon RX 9070 XT test | 4K | High | Not stated | Not stated | Worthplaying observed more than 60 fps. It was an individual test configuration, not a repeatable benchmark for all systems. |
How to get a steadier 60 fps target
Start with the output resolution
Resolution is usually the fastest way to reduce GPU work. If 1440p is fluctuating, test 1080p before changing a dozen quality sliders. If you are already at 1080p and still dropping below your target, continue with path tracing and the heavy effects listed below. A lower internal resolution from DLSS can preserve a sharper output than simply selecting a much lower desktop resolution, but the result depends on the scene and the chosen mode.
Reduce path tracing before flattening every setting
Path tracing changes lighting, reflections, and shadow calculations together, making it a much larger performance lever than many individual quality options. On RTX 5070 and RTX 5080 hardware, Medium is the developer’s balanced choice. If High causes stutter on either card, move to Medium first. On an RTX 5090, High is the recommended starting level, but dropping to Medium remains a sensible troubleshooting step if a demanding mission area fails to hold your target.

Lower shadows, reflections, and volumetric quality
IO Interactive’s troubleshooting guidance names shadows, reflections, and volumetric quality as settings to lower when performance is poor. Change one group at a time and replay the same checkpoint so you can identify which adjustment helps. Reflections and volumetrics can be particularly expensive in scenes with wet surfaces, smoke, fog, or many lights; shadows can produce large swings in outdoor or heavily lit areas.
Use frame generation after establishing a reasonable base rate
DLSS Multi Frame Generation can increase the number shown by an FPS counter, but it does not make the underlying rendered frames free. Input response and artifact behavior remain tied to the base render rate, resolution, and GPU workload. If the game feels sluggish even though the displayed FPS is high, lower path tracing or output resolution and check the base rate before adding more frame generation. Fast camera movement, particles, or thin geometry can also reveal interpolation artifacts.
Decide whether VSync helps your setup
VSync synchronizes completed frames with the display refresh cycle. It can remove tearing but may add latency or make a frame-time miss more obvious. With a variable-refresh monitor, many players prefer VSync off in the game and a suitable refresh-rate limit elsewhere; however, the best choice depends on the display and driver configuration. Do not treat VSync as a substitute for reducing an overloaded GPU.

When frame pacing is erratic rather than consistently low, turn off overlays and recording hooks first. IO Interactive specifically calls out Steam, Discord, Xbox Game Bar, and GPU overlays or recording features. Close or disable them, relaunch the game, and test the same mission segment. This isolates capture and on-screen-widget overhead before you sacrifice image quality.

- Turn off Discord’s in-game overlay and any active recording shortcut.
- Disable Xbox Game Bar capture features in Windows if they are running.
- Turn off the GPU driver’s performance overlay, instant replay, and recording tools while testing.
- Do not change several graphics settings at once; otherwise you will not know whether the overlay or the quality change fixed the hitching.
Diagnose the type of performance problem
Low FPS everywhere
If the frame rate is low in menus and every mission, the GPU is probably overloaded or the game is rendering at a higher resolution than intended. Confirm the output resolution, set DLSS Super Resolution to Auto, reduce path tracing, and then lower shadows, reflections, and volumetrics.
Good average FPS but frequent stutter
Average FPS can hide frame-time spikes. Disable the named overlays and recording tools, verify that the game is installed on an SSD, and repeat the same checkpoint after relaunching. A driver update or shader compilation event can also change behavior, so compare only after the update and restart process is complete.
High displayed FPS but delayed controls
This pattern points to a low base rate or frame-generation latency rather than a lack of displayed frames. Reduce path tracing or resolution until the normally rendered frame rate is stable, then reassess whether DLSS Multi Frame Generation is worth the visual and latency trade-off.

Performance changes between missions
IO Interactive’s approximately 60-fps figures are reported as depending on mission and checkpoint. Different lighting, reflections, crowds, and volumetric effects can produce different GPU loads. Tune against the heaviest area you regularly play, not only a quiet corridor or benchmark-like opening scene.

Steam Deck and Linux expectations
A Steam Deck is a different target from the desktop GPUs in IO Interactive’s recommendations. Worthplaying reported roughly 40–50 fps at 1280×800 on Low settings with FSR Performance. That is a useful starting point for a portable 40-fps experience, but it is not evidence that every Deck can sustain the same result across the full game.
On a lower-end Linux test system, Worthplaying reported 30–40 fps after changing Proton builds. Proton selection, driver stack, desktop compositor, and game updates can all affect results. If you are troubleshooting Linux, record the Proton build and driver version with each test so that a change can be reversed when it makes performance worse.

- Pick one repeatable checkpoint or route that represents a demanding part of the game.
- Record output resolution, path-tracing level, DLSS mode, frame-generation state, driver version, and whether overlays are enabled.
- Play the route for several minutes rather than judging a single glance at an FPS counter.
- Note both the average or displayed FPS and visible hitching. A higher number is not automatically smoother if frame times spike.
- Change only one major variable, replay the route, and keep the setting that improves consistency without unacceptable image quality or latency.
No independent, repeatable settings sweep covering every GPU tier has been established here. The published figures are therefore best used as orientation points: the developer’s RTX 5070, RTX 5080, and RTX 5090 targets, plus the individual configurations reported by Worthplaying.

What “60 fps” means in this game
The developer’s approximately 60-fps statements for RTX 5070 at 1080p and RTX 5080 at 1440p refer to recommended configurations and can vary by mission and checkpoint. With 2x DLSS Frame Generation and DLSS Auto, IO Interactive says those configurations should stay consistently above 60 fps on the display. That displayed figure includes generated frames; it should not be read as a claim that the GPU is rendering 60 fully new frames per second under every condition.
For a smoother experience, prioritize stable frame times and a responsive base rate over the largest counter number. A locked, consistent result at a lower setting is generally preferable to a fluctuating average produced by an overloaded path-tracing preset.
Final recommended setup
For an RTX 5070, select 1080p, Medium path tracing, NVIDIA DLSS with DLSS Super Resolution Auto, and optional 2x DLSS Multi Frame Generation. For an RTX 5080, use the same path-tracing and upscaling choices at 1440p. For an RTX 5090, begin at up to 4K with High path tracing and reduce to Medium if the heaviest scenes do not remain smooth. On less powerful hardware, start lower, remove path tracing first, and then reduce resolution, shadows, reflections, and volumetrics.
That approach follows the game’s current guidance while keeping the important distinction between rendered FPS and generated, displayed FPS. Test in a demanding checkpoint, keep overlays out of the comparison, and make one change at a time.
