Alan Wake 2 is the best first choice if what you want is oppressive horror, darkness and supernatural unease with path tracing. Cyberpunk 2077 is the strongest technical showcase, although its neon science-fiction setting is very different from a gothic action RPG. Black Myth: Wukong is a worthwhile dark-fantasy possibility, while Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is mainly a technical option rather than a proven Bloodborne-style mood match.
Those recommendations use two separate filters: whether a game actually supports path-traced rendering, and whether its atmosphere, combat or exploration might appeal to someone who likes Bloodborne. Path-tracing support is a technical fact; the resemblance to Bloodborne is an editorial judgment and will vary with your taste.

What “Bloodborne-like” means in this list
Bloodborne’s appeal is not just that it is difficult. Players often respond to its decaying gothic spaces, hostile creatures, constant pressure, environmental storytelling and close-range action. 1. Alan Wake 2: the clearest dark-horror choice

Choose Alan Wake 2 when the emotional target is dread rather than a specific combat formula. Its official FAQ describes a dark narrative built around two protagonists whose stories are connected. That supernatural structure, oppressive spaces and emphasis on fear make it the most convincing atmosphere-first recommendation here. Calling it “like Bloodborne” remains a matter of taste: it is not evidence that the games share a genre or combat design.
What path tracing does
Remedy says the game supports full ray tracing, also called path tracing in its technical guidance, on DirectX 12 GPUs with hardware-accelerated DXR. The developer recommends GeForce RTX 40 series hardware and DLSS 3.5 because the feature is GPU intensive, while also noting that different quality settings are available for compatible DXR hardware. A PC update published on January 30, 2025 added a path-traced indirect-lighting setting alongside other advanced rendering changes. The setting is useful when you want the game’s dark interiors and light sources to carry more of the visual impact, but turning it on does not remove the underlying GPU requirement. The official FAQ lists PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions. On PS5 and Xbox Series X, it describes Performance and Quality modes. Xbox Series S does not have a Performance mode according to that FAQ. The PC digital version is distributed through the Epic Games Store. Console players should therefore treat Alan Wake 2 as a visual-quality choice rather than assuming the PC path-tracing feature is available on their system.
Who should pick it
- Pick Alan Wake 2 first if horror atmosphere, darkness and supernatural storytelling matter more than reproducing Bloodborne’s exact melee rhythm.
- Use a lower ray-tracing quality setting or disable full path tracing if your frame rate is unstable; the official guidance presents multiple quality levels for a reason.
- On console, choose between the available Performance and Quality modes instead of looking for a PC-style path-tracing toggle.
2. Cyberpunk 2077: the strongest documented path-tracing showcase
What Overdrive actually enables
Cyberpunk 2077’s Ray Tracing: Overdrive preset includes path-traced rendering. It is a PC graphics mode, is GPU intensive and is disabled by default. The setting can transform how artificial light, signage and interior illumination interact, making it the clearest demonstration in this shortlist of what path tracing can do to a large, highly detailed environment. It is still a neon futuristic city, not a decaying gothic world, so the Bloodborne connection is primarily about oppressive visual intensity rather than subject matter.

CD PROJEKT RED’s support guidance recommends an RTX 40 Series card at the 4070 Ti level or above for Overdrive. The same guidance gives an RTX 3090 recommendation for 1080p at 30 frames per second. These are recommendations for a demanding graphics mode, not a promise that every scene will hold a particular frame rate on every system. The current 4K/60 requirement needs a qualification
CD PROJEKT RED’s current system-requirements page lists a 2160p/60 Overdrive target with an RTX 4080, 16 GB of video memory and 24 GB of system RAM. The measurement was made with DLSS Frame Generation enabled. It should therefore be read as a configured target using frame generation, not as a guarantee of native 60 frames per second. Do not confuse Photo Mode memory figures with gameplay performance
The Overdrive support page lists minimum video-memory figures for path-traced Photo Mode: 8 GB at 1080p, 10 GB at 1440p and 12 GB at 2160p. Those numbers describe the Photo Mode feature and are not a real-time gameplay frame-rate guarantee. A card that meets one of those memory thresholds may still need lower settings, upscaling or frame generation for smooth play.
Who should pick it
- Choose Cyberpunk 2077 when seeing path tracing operate across a complex open world is your main goal.
- Choose it only secondarily for a Bloodborne-like mood; its genre, architecture and color palette are fundamentally different.
- Plan around upscaling and, where appropriate, frame generation rather than assuming the Overdrive preset will run natively at high resolution.
3. Black Myth: Wukong: a dark-fantasy possibility
What is established
NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX catalog identifies Black Myth: Wukong as an action RPG rooted in Chinese mythology and lists path tracing among its supported RTX features. That makes it relevant to this search for technically advanced dark-fantasy games. The catalog entry does not establish that its lighting, story or mood reproduces Bloodborne’s gothic horror, so that part of the recommendation is deliberately subjective.
Why it may appeal to Bloodborne fans
If your priority is a hostile-feeling fantasy world, dramatic creature encounters and action-RPG combat rather than Victorian gothic imagery, Black Myth: Wukong is the most natural alternative in this group after Alan Wake 2. Treat that as a taste-based suggestion, not a claim that the games share a combat system or narrative structure. Its mythology and visual identity are distinct.

Hardware and platform caution
The cited RTX catalog lists the path-tracing feature but does not provide a complete current hardware matrix or a full platform-availability table for this article’s purpose. Check the game’s current graphics menu and system requirements for your edition before buying a GPU specifically for it. The feature listing alone is not enough to infer a universal minimum card or a target frame rate.
4. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle: a technical extra, not a mood match
How Bethesda exposes path tracing
Bethesda’s PC support guidance says the path-tracing options become visible after DLSS is enabled. In practical terms, open the game’s graphics settings, turn on DLSS, then look for the path-tracing controls that appear. If the options remain unavailable, verify that the GPU supports hardware ray tracing and meets the vendor-specific memory guidance rather than assuming the game is malfunctioning.
Vendor-specific access thresholds
The support page gives two separate examples: an Intel GPU with 12 GB of VRAM and ray-tracing support, or an AMD GPU with 16 GB of VRAM and ray-tracing support. These are not universal minimum requirements for every graphics card, nor do they establish equivalent performance between the two vendors. Why it ranks lower for this particular request
The cited support material documents the feature and the menu prerequisite, but it does not make an atmosphere comparison with Bloodborne. Indiana Jones is therefore best treated as an optional path-tracing title for players who already want its adventure setting. It should not be presented as a gothic action-RPG substitute.
Path tracing, ray tracing and “RTX” are not interchangeable labels
Use the exact wording shown for each game. Cyberpunk 2077’s Overdrive preset explicitly includes path-traced rendering. Alan Wake 2’s official material discusses full ray tracing/path tracing and a path-traced indirect-lighting setting. NVIDIA’s catalog lists path tracing for Black Myth: Wukong, while Bethesda documents a path-tracing option for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. A game advertising reflections or a generic ray-tracing toggle is not automatically a full path-tracing title.

Path tracing is also a rendering option, not an atmosphere setting. It can change light transport and image quality while leaving a game’s characters, level design and combat untouched. That is why the comparison separates the factual feature from the subjective Bloodborne resemblance.

If horror is the priority
Start with Alan Wake 2. Confirm that your PC has a hardware-accelerated DXR-capable GPU, then begin with a moderate ray-tracing quality level and adjust resolution or upscaling before attempting the most expensive path-tracing setting. On PS5 or Xbox Series consoles, use the available Performance or Quality mode appropriate to your preference; Xbox Series S does not offer the Performance mode listed in the official FAQ.
If technical lighting is the priority
Start with Cyberpunk 2077 Overdrive. Make sure the mode is enabled manually because it is off by default. Use the official RTX 40 Series 4070 Ti-and-up guidance as a starting point, and treat the RTX 4080 2160p/60 figure as a DLSS Frame Generation configuration rather than native performance. If you are interested only in path-traced Photo Mode, remember that its 8/10/12 GB VRAM figures by resolution do not predict gameplay frame rates.
If you want dark fantasy and action
Consider Black Myth: Wukong after checking the current requirements for your exact PC. Its action-RPG identity and mythological setting may be closer to your interests than a futuristic city, but the Bloodborne comparison is personal taste and not a documented equivalence.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle makes sense when its own setting appeals to you. Enable DLSS first so the path-tracing controls appear, and verify the relevant Intel or AMD VRAM threshold. Do not select it solely because the menu contains a path-tracing option.
Common problems and fixes
The path-tracing option is missing
- For Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, enable DLSS before looking for the path-tracing controls.
- For Cyberpunk 2077, confirm that you are using the PC version and that the Overdrive preset is selected; the mode is off by default.
- For Alan Wake 2, verify that the GPU supports hardware-accelerated DXR through DirectX 12 and remember that the feature is aimed at capable hardware.
- For any title, update the game and graphics driver, then recheck the exact edition and platform. A console version may offer quality modes without exposing the PC path-tracing menu.
Frame rate collapses after enabling the feature
- Lower the path-tracing or ray-tracing quality level before reducing every other setting.
- Use the game’s supported upscaling options where available; Cyberpunk’s documented 2160p/60 Overdrive target was measured with DLSS Frame Generation enabled.
- Reduce output resolution if your GPU is below the developer’s recommended class. Do not interpret Photo Mode VRAM thresholds as a promise of real-time playability.
- Watch both video memory and system memory. Cyberpunk’s current Overdrive target lists 16 GB of VRAM and 24 GB of system RAM in the stated DLSS Frame Generation configuration.
The image looks brighter but not more atmospheric
Path tracing cannot change a game’s artistic direction. If the world, music, enemy design or story does not appeal to you, more accurate lighting will not turn it into Bloodborne. Revisit the atmosphere column in the comparison and choose the game whose underlying genre matches your taste before treating rendering quality as the deciding factor.
