Choose by household size and annual cost
For one person or a small budget: Bitwarden
Bitwarden’s listed annual cost for Families is $47.88 USD before taxes for up to six people. Its one-person Premium plan is listed at $1.65 per month, billed annually at $19.80. If you need only an individual account, compare that annual figure with the family plan rather than assuming a household subscription is automatically better. A free account is also available, though the official page should be checked for the exact current feature set.

#1 Best Overall
- POWERFUL SECURITY KEY: The Security Key C NFC is the essential physical passkey for protecting your digital life from phishing attacks. It ensures only you can access your accounts.
- WORKS WITH 1000+ ACCOUNTS: Compatible with Google, Microsoft, and Apple. A single Security Key C NFC secures 100 of your favorite accounts, including email, password managers, and more.
- FAST & CONVENIENT LOGIN: Plug in your Security Key C NFC via USB-C and tap it, or tap it against your phone (NFC) to authenticate. No batteries, no internet connection, and no extra fees required.
- TRUSTED PASSKEY TECHNOLOGY: Uses the latest passkey standards (FIDO2/WebAuthn & FIDO U2F) but does not support One-Time Passwords. For complex needs, check out the YubiKey 5 Series.
- BUILT TO LAST: Made from tough, waterproof, and crush-resistant materials. Manufactured in Sweden and programmed in the USA with the highest security standards.
For a larger group: check Dashlane’s current local quote
Dashlane Friends & Family includes the manager and nine additional members, the largest stated group in this comparison. The cited support pages do not establish a current consumer price, so a cost-per-person comparison would be misleading without checking the live price for your region.
Decide how private accounts and sharing should work
A family plan should make intentional sharing possible without making every saved password visible to every member. 1Password describes a Private vault for each family member alongside a Shared vault. Families can also create vaults for selected people—for example, parents can share sensitive items with each other without including children. Its guest accounts can access one vault, but do not receive a Private vault or the family Shared vault. See 1Password’s family account and vault guidance.

- Requires 3 "AAA" batteries (included)
- Unit auto-locks for 30 minutes after 5 consecutive incorrect PINs
Dashlane says each member has an independent account and that members choose which logins or information to share. Bitwarden Families includes unlimited sharing and collections, but the cited pricing page does not specify the same level of detail about private vaults or selective access. If those controls matter, confirm how they work in the plan before moving family credentials into it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsMake account recovery part of the decision
Families should decide what happens if someone forgets their account password or loses a recovery credential. 1Password documents a recovery process in which family organizers can help members recover accounts after a forgotten account password or missing Secret Key. Its guidance recommends having at least one other organizer, so recovery does not depend on a single person being available. The cited information does not establish equivalent family-recovery details for Bitwarden or Dashlane; check each provider’s current documentation for the recovery options and limits that apply to your plan.

Check devices, passkeys, and second-factor compatibility
Device access matters when household members use different computers and phones. Dashlane’s support article says Premium and Friends & Family support unlimited devices. Bitwarden lists unlimited devices among its core features. The cited plan information does not provide a complete, comparable operating-system and browser compatibility list for all three providers, so verify support for each household member’s devices and browsers on the providers’ current pages.
Bitwarden lists passkey management among its core features and hardware security keys as an available two-step login method for paid plans. A FIDO2 security key can be an optional second factor, but compatibility depends on the password manager, the key standard it accepts, and the devices and browsers used to sign in. Check all three before buying a key; the cited information does not establish that any specific model works across every provider or device.
Rank #4
- FIDO-ONLY FUNCTIONALITY: Supports FIDO2 (passkeys) and FIDO U2F protocols for passwordless and second-factor authentication. Does not support OTP, TOTP, Smart Card (PIV), or other advanced features - upgrade to YubiKey 5 Series for extended functionality
- SECURE AND CONVENIENT: Passwordless MFA login with the YubiKey Bio authenticator and biometric information using a fingerprint, with a PIN as a fallback. Simply plug in via USB and use your fingerprint to authenticate
- DEVICE & OS COMPATIBILITY: Compatible with Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, and Linux. Works seamlessly with supported services like Google and Microsoft accounts, and major password managers. See the full compatibility list at "Works With YubiKey"
- DURABLE & RELIABLE: Resistant to tampering, water, and crushing. No batteries or network connectivity required, offering dependable authentication without any downtime. Securely manufactured in USA & Sweden
- Yubico Authenticator App - Fingerprint enrollment, passkey management and PIN configuration available via the app app - Upgrade to YubiKey 5 Series to generate one-time-passwords (OTP) via Yubico Authenticator and for advanced compatibility (OATH, PIV)
What this comparison does not establish
The cited plan pages do not provide a consistent, current side-by-side account of export and migration options across all three providers. If you are switching managers, check the current import and export documentation for the services involved before relying on a particular file format or workflow. The available evidence also does not support an independent ranking of security effectiveness or a claim that one service prevents more breaches than another. 1Password describes its vaults as end-to-end encrypted using an account password and a unique Secret Key created on the user’s device; that is the company’s description of its security model, not an independent audit finding. 1Password plan and security description.
