Streamlabs’ New Year guide was originally published in 2022 and reports an update on March 30, 2026. Treat its named designs as options to check, not as confirmation that every design or access condition remains unchanged.
How to pick an overlay that works on stream
Decide how much of a package you need
- Only need a frame or a scene? A single overlay may be enough; you do not need to buy a complete kit.
- Want a consistent look throughout the broadcast? A package with matching starting, BRB, ending, alert, and transition assets may save time assembling individual pieces.
- Want a countdown? Check that the specific asset includes one and that it can be set to the intended time and time zone. Do not assume every New Year package includes a countdown.
Check readability at your actual stream resolution
Festive animation can draw attention, but it should not compete with the content. Preview the overlay at the resolution you plan to stream. Check that text remains legible, animation does not cover important gameplay or the face camera, and alerts do not obscure essential on-screen information.

Confirm access, license, and compatibility
Before settling on an asset, check whether it is free or membership-gated, what its license permits, and which software and versions its creator supports. A claim that a package works with several broadcast applications is not the same as a guarantee that every file or widget will work in your particular setup.
How to add a New Year overlay in OBS
For a StreamElements overlay
- Choose an overlay in the StreamElements gallery and customize it in the visual editor if needed.
- Copy the overlay URL from StreamElements.
- In OBS Studio, open the scene where the overlay should appear and add a Browser source.
- Paste the URL into that source and position or resize it so it frames the content without hiding important elements.
- Preview the scene, including any widgets or animation, before using it on a live broadcast.
StreamElements’ documented approach renders the overlay through a browser source. If the overlay does not appear, check the URL and the source’s dimensions and visibility in the scene.

For Streamlabs designs or a downloaded package
- In Streamlabs, browse the overlay library and search by keyword or other available filters for a seasonal design.
- Use the library’s add option for Streamlabs Desktop or OBS, following the setup instructions shown for that design.
- For a downloaded package, follow the seller’s installation instructions and verify its license and compatibility before importing or using its files.
- Preview every scene and alert in your actual broadcast layout. If a countdown is included, confirm its target time and time zone before the event.
Use a Stream Deck for scene changes only if it suits your workflow
A physical controller is optional: it can help an operator switch from a countdown scene to the live scene and then to a celebration scene, but it is not needed to display an overlay. Elgato documents OBS scene-switching and media-source controls for Stream Deck; its integration page specifies Stream Deck 5.3 or newer and OBS Studio 27.0 or newer. A keyboard shortcut or a controller you already own may be sufficient.
