Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe services worth using for Old School RuneScape in 2026 are the official ones: Jagex’s membership, Old School Bonds, and the supported client software. Paid services that play, level, or carry your account are not on that list. Jagex’s rules prohibit them, and they put the account at risk.
What counts as a legitimate OSRS service
Old School RuneScape is, in Jagex’s own words, “a community-led game.” Its official rules separate what players may use from what they may not. Jagex’s rules state that “paying someone to play your account for you is covered by this rule,” and they define real-world trading to include buying or selling things related to Jagex accounts for money or anything of value. The same rules say: “Players must not share, transfer or lend their account to anyone else.” (Rules of Old School RuneScape)

That leaves three categories that a player can use without breaking those rules: official membership, Old School Bonds, and supported client software. The sections below cover each one and then the tools to avoid.

Membership is the main paid option. Jagex’s membership page lists member-only skills, regions, quests, bosses and raids, player housing, additional bank capacity, and member worlds. (Membership benefits) The official join page also presents free-to-play access as an option, so membership is a choice rather than a requirement. (OSRS join page)

The price was not stated in the pages reviewed for this article, and prices can vary by region and plan. Check the membership page before you buy. To decide whether membership is worth it, list the content you want to reach, such as a particular quest line, boss, or skill, and check whether that content is member-only. If your goals are limited to free-to-play content, membership adds nothing.
Old School Bonds
Old School Bonds are an in-game item, not a subscription card. Jagex states that Bonds can be traded within Old School RuneScape. They can be redeemed for membership and for name-change cooldown bypasses. (Old School Membership Bonds)

Bonds do not carry over to the main RuneScape game. Jagex states they are not transferable to RuneScape for RuneCoins or Keys. Do not treat Old School Bonds as interchangeable with RuneScape Bonds or with a cash purchase of membership. They belong to the Old School economy and are used only within it.

Tools to avoid
Jagex’s rules on macros and client features prohibit software that generates game input or performs game actions for the player. (Macro and client features not permitted) Under that rule, botting tools and macros are off limits. Any service that promises to level your account, earn gold for you, or carry you through content falls under the account-playing prohibition described above. Also avoid any tool that claims to be “ban proof.” Such a claim does not change what the rules prohibit.
Jagex’s account-safety guidance adds a practical warning. Download software only from official or trusted sources, and never share account details. (Keeping your account safe from malware) Unofficial service ads and download offers are a common route for account theft, so treat them as a red flag.

How to choose
- If you want more content: compare member-only content against your goals before paying. Free-to-play remains an option.
- If you want to use in-game currency for membership or a name change: look at Old School Bonds, and remember they stay inside Old School.
- If you want better tracking or interface tools: use RuneLite or stay on the official client, and check RuneLite’s current feature list.
- If an offer promises progress you did not earn: walk away. It falls under the rules against paying someone to play your account, sharing your account, or using software that performs actions for you.
Checking current information
