For a personal media library, Mylio Photos is the clearest fit; for Lightroom Classic or Capture One Pro catalogs, consider Peakto Search; and for searching media alongside documents and code across a Mac, Omni is the broadest option described here. Invenio advertises photo, video, scene-timecode, and optional speech search on newer Apple Silicon Macs. Eagle AI Search is different: its natural-language search matches asset text such as filenames and notes, rather than directly understanding image content.
These are product and developer descriptions, not the results of a comparative hands-on test. “Offline” does not by itself tell you whether a tool searches visual content, metadata, embedded text, or speech; the distinctions below matter when choosing.

How to choose an offline search tool
Start with the place your files already live, then check what the search actually indexes. A tool may search image content, metadata, text attached to an asset, speech, or a combination. Also distinguish a result that points to an entire file from one that identifies a moment inside a video.

- Library: Is the target a personal media library, an existing editing catalog, or files of many kinds across the Mac?
- Search basis: Does the tool describe visual recognition, metadata, filenames and notes, reference-image matching, or speech search?
- Result: Does it return a photo or video, or a timecode within a clip?
- Requirements: Check the macOS version, hardware, and any required host application or catalog.
- Privacy evidence: Treat “local” and “offline” as vendor claims unless independently verified. No independent privacy audit or comparative accuracy and speed test is established for these options.

Mylio Photos: search within a personal media library
Mylio describes an on-device index that uses photo metadata, embedded text/OCR, facial recognition, and AI SmartTags. The company says SmartTags recognize objects, activities, and visual traits. Dynamic Search can combine a natural-language-style description with labels and metadata such as location, camera, or date. A query like “mountain hikes with friends 2022” illustrates the mix of remembered scene, people, and time.

Mylio’s support page also describes searches using keywords, ratings, people, map locations, recent imports, and pinned searches, with QuickFilters to narrow results. QuickCollections can save reusable searches, while QuickActions provide related navigation. The AI feature page focuses chiefly on photos, so do not assume every video or document in a Mylio library receives the same visual analysis.
Mylio’s product FAQ states: “Everything runs locally. Mylio’s AI photo finder and search technology works entirely on your devices, ensuring privacy, speed, and no dependency on cloud services.” This is the company’s own statement, not an independent privacy audit. Peakto Search: retrieve images from editing catalogs
Peakto Search is designed around Lightroom Classic and Capture One Pro catalogs. CYME says users can describe an image or provide a reference image, search multiple indexed catalogs, and retrieve photos or videos even when the catalogs are disconnected or offline. Results can be opened in the host application or turned into a selection or collection.
The catalog dependency is central: the documentation says Peakto Search works with Lightroom Classic, not Lightroom Cloud catalogs. CYME lists macOS 12 or later, Lightroom Classic version 5 or later, and Capture One Pro version 20 or later. Check the current documentation before installing, since requirements may change. Details are in CYME’s Peakto Search overview.

Omni: search media and other files across the Mac
Omni is the broadest file-search option in this group: its developer describes a local semantic index spanning text, code, PDFs, images, audio, and video, and says the app works with the network off. That breadth may suit someone who wants one search surface for media and non-media files, rather than a dedicated photo catalog.
The developer page showed version 0.15.3 when researched and reports “2.7M files in one index” and “19 ms to search all of them.” Those are developer-published claims, not independent benchmark results. The page lists the app under Apache 2.0 and model weights under CC BY-NC 4.0; those are different licenses. Neither the broad format claim nor the performance figures establish how a particular library or workflow will perform. See Omni’s developer page.

Eagle AI Search: know what “natural language” means
Eagle’s plugin listing promotes offline local processing, natural-language search through asset text information, and reverse image similarity. Its launch post draws an important distinction: the natural-language feature matches text associated with an asset—such as its filename, description, or notes—rather than directly analyzing image content through visual understanding. It is therefore not equivalent to a tool that says it recognizes objects or scenes in images. Read the Eagle AI Search listing and Eagle’s launch explanation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsInvenio: search photos, videos, and advertised clip moments
Invenio’s US App Store listing advertises offline semantic search over photos and videos, scene detection that returns a point in a video, and optional AI audio or speech search. That timecode capability is useful if the goal is to locate a moment such as a person speaking or a described scene, rather than merely find the clip containing it. The listing’s examples include queries such as “red Range Rover driving at sunset” and “a bride laughing.”
The listing specifies macOS 15.6 or later and an Apple M1-or-later Mac. It displayed in-app purchase options of $6.99 monthly, $49.99 yearly, and $99.99 lifetime at the time researched; prices can change, so check the current listing. Apple says the developer indicated that data is not collected, while noting that privacy information is provided by the developer and not verified by Apple. Treat features, pricing, and privacy information as listing claims, not established long-term performance. See Invenio’s US App Store listing.
Which one should you pick?
- Choose Mylio if you want a personal media-library workflow and value its described local AI photo indexing, searches, and saved collections.
- Choose Peakto Search if your photos and videos are already organized in Lightroom Classic or Capture One Pro and you want to search those indexed catalogs.
- Consider Omni if the job is finding media alongside documents, code, and other file types across the Mac.
- Consider Invenio if searching for a scene or speech within a video is important and your Mac meets its listed OS and hardware requirements.
- Consider Eagle AI Search if searching the text attached to Eagle assets is useful; do not mistake that feature for direct visual-content understanding.
Before committing to a large library, test a few queries using the words you would naturally remember: a person, activity, place, approximate date, or a distinctive line of speech. Confirm whether results come from visual analysis or attached text, whether video results include timecodes, and whether the tool can see the storage locations and catalogs you actually use. No reproducible head-to-head test establishes a fastest or most accurate option.
