For an audio-led YouTube radio stream with a static or slow-moving visual, start in OBS with 720p at 30 fps, H.264 video at 3,000 kbps using CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and AAC stereo audio at 128 kbps. YouTube recommends those video and audio settings for 720p30 H.264 live ingest. They are a test starting point, not a guarantee that every Airtel connection can hold the stream: measure stable upload speed and leave about 20% headroom. For this profile, that means roughly 3.9 Mbps of stable upload before other household traffic.
OBS settings to start with
Use this conservative profile for a music stream whose picture does not need fast motion. YouTube’s live encoder guidance recommends the listed H.264 bitrate for 720p30, CBR, two-second keyframes, and 128 kbps stereo audio. The choice of 30 fps is suited to a low-motion radio visual; YouTube supports higher frame rates, but that does not make them necessary for this use.

In OBS, open Settings → Video to set the output resolution and frame rate. Under Settings → Output, choose the streaming encoder, CBR rate control, video bitrate and keyframe interval; set the audio bitrate in the streaming output settings. OBS may show different encoder choices depending on the computer. Use a stable hardware H.264 encoder if available; otherwise use software encoding with a preset that leaves the CPU enough capacity. YouTube specifies the codec and stream parameters, not a particular OBS encoder implementation or preset.

How to configure and test the 24/7 stream
- Build the scene in OBS. Add the artwork or visual source and the music source. If you are using a media file or playlist intended to repeat, enable looping and verify that both picture and sound continue across the end of a track or file.
- Enter the YouTube stream credentials in OBS. In YouTube’s live control room, use the stream key and server information for the broadcast, then configure OBS to send the feed. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your channel. Keep it private and reset it if it is exposed.
- Choose Normal latency. A 24/7 music stream generally does not depend on immediate viewer interaction, so the lower-buffering trade-off of low latency is usually unnecessary.
- Run a private or unlisted test before going public. Include the actual audio and representative visual movement, and let the test run long enough to expose intermittent network or encoder trouble. Check YouTube’s stream health while it is running.
- Start the public broadcast only after the test is stable. Confirm that OBS is sending, YouTube is receiving, audio is audible without clipping, and the visual is updating as intended. Keep OBS and the computer running for the duration of this do-it-yourself stream.
How much Airtel upload speed does this need?
Base the bitrate on measured upload, not the advertised download speed or the headline speed of the broadband plan. The stream’s nominal total is approximately 3,128 kbps: 3,000 kbps of video plus 128 kbps of audio. YouTube recommends leaving roughly 20% upload headroom, so this profile needs about 3.9 Mbps of stable upload under that rule. Allow additional capacity if other people or devices use the connection, or if another stream is running.

- Run upload speed tests at several times of day using the same wired or Wi-Fi setup you plan to use for streaming. Upload capacity can be lower than download capacity.
- Do not set OBS to consume the full measured upload. Keep the recommended headroom for variation and other network use.
- Test with the real audio and visual, then monitor YouTube’s stream health. If the upload varies or YouTube reports trouble, lower the video bitrate; if necessary, reduce output resolution and test again.
- Check the exact Airtel plan and terms in your Airtel account. Airtel’s published broadband plans vary by tier and geography, and advertised maximum speeds are not a measured upload guarantee.
Airtel’s Xstream Fiber terms page, as available in 2026, states a Fair Usage Policy threshold of 3333 GB in a billing cycle, after which speed is reduced to 1 Mbps; Airtel also says the policy may be amended. Check the current terms for your own account before relying on that threshold. At 3 Mbps of continuous video, the video alone uses about 0.97 TB over 30 days. That is a calculation from bitrate and time, not an Airtel usage statistic; audio and protocol overhead add to the total.
Airtel also describes broadband speed as a maximum prescribed speed that is not assured at all times, with possible variation due to congestion or technical reasons. A speed test is only a snapshot, so a long test stream is more informative about whether the connection can sustain a 24/7 broadcast.

Keeping the setup reliable around the clock
- Use Ethernet if Wi-Fi appears unstable. A wired connection removes the wireless hop, but it cannot fix a weak broadband line, congestion, power loss or account-level speed reduction.
- Watch both network and encoder health. Dropped frames associated with the network point toward upload capacity or interruptions; encoder overload calls for reducing output resolution or frame rate, or choosing a less demanding encoder preset.
- Account for power. If the computer or router loses power, the OBS stream stops. A UPS may help, but its required capacity depends on the actual equipment draw and the runtime you need.
- Review monthly data use. A continuous broadcast uses data all day and night, so compare its expected usage with the applicable Airtel FUP and your other household use.
Music rights and YouTube channel rules
Only stream music and visuals you have the right to use for a continuous public broadcast. A personal subscription or permission to listen does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast tracks on YouTube. Keep records of licenses or other permissions, and check the rights terms for every recording and visual in the playlist. YouTube’s copyright and reused-content decisions are separate issues; using a playlist of third-party recordings is not, by itself, evidence that a channel qualifies for monetization.
