For a standard-dynamic-range retail promo loop, start with 1080p at 30 fps, H.264, CBR at 5 Mbps, a 2-second keyframe interval, Rec. 709 color, and AAC stereo audio at 128 kbps. Send the feed to YouTube over RTMPS. These settings align with YouTube’s published encoder guidance; they are a starting point to test, not a promise of picture quality or uninterrupted 24/7 operation.
Recommended OBS settings for a retail promo loop
This preset suits mostly static promotional graphics, product images, text, and ordinary transitions in SDR. YouTube automatically transcodes live streams into multiple output formats, but the incoming feed still needs a stable connection and a clean source.

| Setting | Starting value | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Output resolution | 1920×1080 | Check that prices, disclaimers, and other small text remain readable on a phone. YouTube can detect resolution and frame rate automatically by default. YouTube encoder settings |
| Frame rate | 30 fps | Use 60 fps only if the creative has motion that benefits from it and your encoder and upload connection can sustain the higher load. YouTube encoder settings |
| Encoder | H.264 | A widely supported choice for RTMP/RTMPS ingest. YouTube also lists H.265/HEVC and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS, but this preset uses H.264. YouTube encoder settings |
| Rate control | CBR | YouTube recommends constant bitrate encoding. YouTube encoder settings |
| Video bitrate | 5 Mbps for 1080p30 H.264 | This is YouTube’s recommended H.264 bitrate for 1080p30—not a measured result for your channel. Its recommendations are 3 Mbps for 720p30, 8 Mbps for 720p60, 14 Mbps for 1080p30, and 17 Mbps for 1080p60. YouTube encoder settings |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds. Keep it consistent; OBS notes this helps smooth transitions between transcoded quality options. YouTube encoder settings · OBS knowledge base |
| Audio | AAC, 44.1 kHz, stereo, 128 kbps | YouTube lists AAC or MP3 for RTMP/RTMPS and specifies these audio values in its advanced recommendations. Confirm that music and voiceover are licensed for the broadcast. YouTube encoder settings |
| Color | Rec. 709, 8-bit SDR | YouTube’s SDR recommendation. HDR has separate hardware, codec, and configuration requirements and is usually unnecessary for promo graphics. YouTube encoder settings |
| Ingest | RTMPS | YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the connection to its servers. Keep the stream key private; YouTube describes it as the encoder’s password and address. YouTube encoder settings · YouTube encoder setup |
| Latency and DVR | Normal latency; set DVR for viewer needs | Lower latency can increase buffering and matters less when nobody is interacting with a live host. DVR lets viewers pause and resume the live stream. YouTube encoder settings |
Choose resolution and frame rate for the content
1080p30: the sensible default
For a promo loop built around product shots, price cards, and text, 1080p30 is a practical balance. YouTube recommends 5 Mbps for H.264 at this resolution and frame rate. Test real scenes, especially fine print and quick transitions, rather than judging a static title card alone.
When 720p or 60 fps makes sense
If the PC or upload connection cannot reliably sustain the 1080p30 feed, YouTube’s recommended H.264 bitrate for 720p30 is 3 Mbps. For content with motion where smoother movement matters, 1080p60 is an option, but YouTube recommends 17 Mbps H.264 at that setting. Choose 60 fps only when the creative benefit justifies the increased bitrate and encoding capacity.

These are YouTube platform recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular PC, encoder, or internet connection will deliver a stable stream. Test the actual setup under the conditions in which it will run.
Set up OBS and verify the YouTube feed
- Prepare the broadcast in YouTube Studio. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select the live stream. Copy its stream key into OBS’s streaming configuration. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your channel.
- Configure OBS output. Set the output to 1920×1080 at 30 fps, H.264, CBR, 5,000 Kbps video bitrate, and a 2-second keyframe interval. Set AAC audio to 128 Kbps and 44.1 kHz stereo, and use Rec. 709 8-bit SDR for color. The exact OBS control names can vary by version and output mode.
- Choose RTMPS and connect. Select YouTube as the service where available, choose RTMPS, and enter the stream key. YouTube recommends RTMPS for an encrypted connection to its ingest servers.
- Build the promo scene or playlist. Include the intended graphics, transitions, audio, and loop behavior. Check legibility on a mobile-sized display and make sure the planned content is what viewers will actually see throughout the cycle.
- Start a test stream well before launch. YouTube advises setting up encoder streams at least two hours ahead and starting an encoder at least 15 minutes before an event. For an always-on channel, use that lead time as a pre-launch or post-change check: inspect the Live Control Room preview, stream-health messages, audio, and the channel watch page on a separate device.
- Adjust based on the real feed. Test representative motion, transitions, text, and sound. Watch YouTube’s stream-health panel and OBS for dropped frames or encoding overload. If the source is unstable, reduce the load or bitrate and test again rather than assuming the published recommendation fits your connection.
YouTube’s live-stream guidance puts the equipment question plainly: “You do not need expensive equipment, what you have at hand will do.” The important step is verifying the complete signal path before relying on it. YouTube live-stream tips

Make a 24/7 operation recoverable
Encoder settings determine how OBS sends video; they do not keep a PC, power supply, network, or internet connection from failing. A continuous channel needs an operating plan as well as a working preset.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Test the backup path
YouTube specifically recommends testing failover by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet cable during a test, then checking whether the player switches to the backup encoder. That is a test recommendation, not a complete redundancy design for a retail channel. Decide in advance what takes over, who responds to a failure, and how viewers will see that the feed has resumed.

The device supports both vertical and horizontal screen modes. With 16GB storage of local storage cache, it ensures there is never any playback interruption.
Monitor the stream and the content
- Watch OBS for dropped frames and encoding overload, and check YouTube’s stream-health panel for ingest or quality messages.
- Confirm audio is present and appropriate, and that the correct promo slate or playlist is playing.
- Periodically check the live player from a viewer device, including a phone, instead of relying only on the OBS preview.
- Use a UPS only as a supporting continuity measure for the PC and network equipment. Size it from measured power draw and the runtime you need. It cannot prevent ISP failure, software crashes, or YouTube ingest outages.
Plan recording and archives
YouTube recommends checking local archive files and verifying that the file size is growing. Its encoder setup guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. For a 24/7 channel, plan local recording, file segmentation, retention, and any required restart or re-stream workflow; do not assume one uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast will produce a single complete archive.
Protect and rotate the stream key if needed
YouTube says the stream key tells the encoder where to send the feed and allows YouTube to accept it. If it is compromised, an owner or manager can reset it, but OBS must then be updated with the replacement key before it can send the stream again. YouTube encoder setup

Check rights and channel rules before looping promos
A technically sound stream can still create a channel problem if its material is not authorized. Confirm that you have the rights needed to broadcast every video, image, music track, and voiceover in the loop. A license to play music in a shop or use a track in an offline ad does not necessarily grant the rights needed for a YouTube live broadcast. Review YouTube’s applicable copyright and monetization policies for your channel and content; this OBS preset cannot determine whether a promo is eligible or compliant.
