For one local video, use OBS’s Media Source and enable Loop. For a playlist of multiple local files, use OBS’s VLC Video source, add the files, and enable Loop Playlist. You do not need a separate OBS playlist plugin for that basic multi-file workflow, but VLC Media Player must be installed.

How to loop one video in OBS
- In OBS, choose the scene where the video should appear. In the Sources dock, select + and add Media Source.
- In the source properties, select the local video file you want to play.
- Enable Loop, then confirm the properties. The file will repeat while the source plays.
- Preview the scene and check the video and audio before starting your YouTube Live broadcast.
How to loop a playlist of videos in OBS
- Install VLC Media Player if it is not already installed. OBS’s documentation says VLC Video requires VLC; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- In OBS, open the target scene. In the Sources dock, select + and add VLC Video.
- In the source properties, add the local video files to the playlist. Arrange them in the order you want if you do not intend to shuffle.
- Enable Loop Playlist to repeat the set after the last item. Enable Shuffle Playlist only if you want playback order randomized.
- Choose the source’s visibility behavior deliberately: stop and restart, pause and resume, or always play when the source is hidden. The appropriate choice depends on whether you want the playlist to continue when its scene or source is not visible.
- Preview the scene. Confirm file order, audio, and what happens when you switch away from the scene before going live.

Playlist order and shuffle
Use the listed order for a planned sequence; use Shuffle Playlist when a randomized sequence is intended. Check the resulting playback in your own scene rather than assuming the source will behave as you expect.
What happens when the source is hidden
VLC Video offers stop-and-restart, pause-and-resume, and always-play visibility behavior. If you switch scenes during a broadcast, the setting determines whether playback stops, pauses, or continues in the background. Select the behavior that matches your scene workflow.

Audio, subtitles, and caching
VLC Video exposes audio-track and subtitle controls. OBS documentation lists network caching at 400 ms by default. The documented default is not a guarantee that changing the cache will fix a playback issue, so adjust it only when you have a specific reason and verify the result in your setup.
OBS playlist looping is not YouTube’s viewer loop
YouTube’s loop control applies to a viewer replaying a YouTube video or playlist. It does not configure a local file playlist in OBS for a live broadcast. To loop local media during a broadcast, configure Media Source or VLC Video in OBS.

For YouTube Live, make sure you have the right to use the video and audio you broadcast. OBS looping settings do not grant copyright permission, and a loop setting cannot establish that a stream complies with YouTube’s rules. Review YouTube’s applicable policies for your content before going live.
Common setup problems
- VLC Video is missing: Install VLC Media Player and restart OBS. Check that the architectures match; OBS specifies 64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS.
- The playlist stops at the last file: Reopen the VLC Video source properties and check that Loop Playlist is enabled. A playlist loop is distinct from looping a single Media Source.
- The source stops when you change scenes: Check its visibility behavior. Choose pause-and-resume or always-play if you want playback to continue rather than stop when hidden.
- Files play in an unexpected order: Check the playlist order and whether Shuffle Playlist is enabled.
- Audio or subtitles are wrong: Review the VLC Video source’s audio-track and subtitle controls, then preview the scene again.
