Yomawari: Lost in the Dark is the best Nintendo Switch substitute if what you want most is HorrorVale’s oppressive supernatural mood. Choose WORLD OF HORROR for the clearest horror-RPG identity, Children of Morta for party progression and repeatable dungeon runs, Hermitage: Strange Case Files for paranormal investigation, and SPOOKWARE for macabre comedy.
None is a one-for-one replacement for the announced HorrorVale: Deadluxe Edition. HorrorVale is described as a traditional horror-inspired RPG with turn-based combat, four acts, more than 30 recruitable party members, 60 sidequests and more than 50 hours of content. The Deadluxe Edition has been announced for Nintendo Switch-family consoles with enhanced visuals, improved performance and new battles, but no release date has been provided. The list below therefore matches the part of HorrorVale you value most rather than pretending every game offers the same combat or party systems.

At a glance: which Switch game fits your version of HorrorVale?
| Game | Combat or interaction | Progression and structure | Horror tone | Multiplayer and availability notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yomawari: Lost in the Dark | Stealth, hiding and ghost evasion | Haunted-town exploration focused on recovering memories and breaking a curse | Oppressive supernatural horror | Single-player; Nintendo Switch demo; released October 25, 2022 |
| WORLD OF HORROR | Nintendo’s catalog places it in the role-playing context; detailed mechanics are not established by the cited catalog entry | Horror-RPG catalog pick; verify the current edition and feature list before buying | Quirky, macabre horror | Listed for Nintendo Switch with an October 26, 2023 release |
| Children of Morta | Action-RPG combat | Level individual heroes and the family; procedurally generated dungeons; roguelite development | Dark fantasy with supernatural danger | Single-player or local/online co-op |
| Hermitage: Strange Case Files | Investigation and case-based adventure | Follow supernatural incidents from a sinister bookstore with companions | Paranormal and Lovecraftian mystery | Positioned as an adjacent adventure, not a conventional RPG substitute |
| SPOOKWARE | More than 100 horror-themed microgames | Story episodes following three skeleton brothers on a road trip | Comedic, macabre horror | Adjacent detour; it does not reproduce HorrorVale’s party-RPG structure |
Use the table as a filter, not a scorecard. HorrorVale combines turn-based battles, a recruitable party, sidequests and a long, act-based adventure. The Switch alternatives split those qualities between different games: Yomawari supplies the strongest sense of place, Children of Morta supplies the clearest party-growth loop, and WORLD OF HORROR occupies the most obvious horror-RPG shelf position. Hermitage and SPOOKWARE are useful when your preferred part of HorrorVale is its supernatural mystery or macabre humor rather than its role-playing rules.
What HorrorVale: Deadluxe Edition sets as the target
The reference point matters because “horror RPG” can mean very different things. The official HorrorVale listing calls it “a traditional RPG adventure game inspired by horror, full of unexpected twists and turns,” and describes “traditional turn based combat with a spooky spin.” Its announced scale is unusually specific:
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Four acts structure the main adventure.
- More than 30 party members can be recruited.
- There are 60 available sidequests.
- The stated playtime is more than 50 hours.
That combination suggests a conventional, character-driven campaign rather than a short horror vignette or an action game with frightening scenery. It also means that no single recommendation below should be described as an exact mechanical match. Yomawari has the haunted-world tension but not the advertised party-combat format. Children of Morta has a family of heroes and long-term development but uses action-RPG and roguelite systems. Hermitage is about solving paranormal cases, while SPOOKWARE turns horror ideas into short microgames.
Deadluxe Edition is announced for Nintendo Switch-family consoles. The announcement promises enhanced visuals, better performance and new battles, but it does not give a release date. Treat any retailer date or unsourced launch claim as provisional, and check the current Nintendo listing before making plans around a purchase. Until a date is confirmed, the games below are the practical ways to play a related experience on Switch now.
1. Yomawari: Lost in the Dark — the closest atmospheric match
Pick Yomawari first if your favorite part of HorrorVale is the feeling of entering a dangerous, haunted place and learning its rules. Nintendo describes a young girl exploring a haunted town to recover missing memories and break a curse while hiding from ghosts. The premise puts exploration, vulnerability and supernatural storytelling ahead of party optimization.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Why it fits
- Haunted-town roaming: The town is the central space to investigate, so the horror comes from moving through an environment that can turn threatening at any moment.
- Memory and curse story: Recovering missing memories gives the search a clear narrative purpose instead of presenting disconnected scares.
- Avoidance rather than damage output: Hiding from ghosts makes observation and evasion the key skills. That is a useful contrast with HorrorVale’s stated turn-based battles.
- Easy to sample: A Nintendo Switch demo is available, allowing you to test the tone and stealth pressure before buying.
What it does not replicate
Yomawari is single-player and is not presented as a recruit-and-build party RPG. There is no basis in the cited Nintendo description for promising turn-based combat, four acts, 30-plus recruitable characters or 60 sidequests. Choose it for atmosphere-first horror, not for a substitute combat system.
Release and buying check
Nintendo lists an October 25, 2022 release for Yomawari: Lost in the Dark. Confirm the current regional listing, price and edition on the Nintendo eShop; storefront availability and pricing can change by country.

2. WORLD OF HORROR — the clearest horror-RPG lane
WORLD OF HORROR is the most straightforward catalog answer when the phrase “horror RPG” matters more to you than matching HorrorVale’s exact battle format. Nintendo’s horror catalog includes it among Switch horror releases and places it in the catalog’s role-playing context. The catalog records an October 26, 2023 release listing.
Why it belongs on the shortlist
Its value in this comparison is category fit: it is the title to investigate when you want a game marketed and cataloged at the intersection of horror and role-playing rather than a general adventure with spooky decoration. That makes it a sensible second choice after Yomawari for readers who want the horror premise and the RPG label to be central at the same time.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesKeep the mechanics claim precise
The Nintendo catalog entries establish the product, its Switch listing and its role-playing placement, but they do not provide a detailed mechanics breakdown in the information available here. Do not buy it assuming that it has HorrorVale’s turn-based party battles, 30-plus recruits, four-act campaign or 60 sidequests. Check the live product page for the current feature description, edition and price before purchase.
Best for
- Players who want the strongest direct “horror RPG” positioning on Switch.
- Readers comfortable verifying the exact combat and progression systems from the current product listing.
- Anyone who prefers a macabre, stylized horror direction over a realistic haunted-town presentation.
3. Children of Morta — choose it for party growth and repeatable combat
Children of Morta is the right recommendation when “party” means a group of playable heroes that can grow over many dungeon runs. Nintendo describes it as an action RPG with roguelite character development. You control a family of heroes, level both the individual characters and the family, and clear procedurally generated dungeons.
Where it overlaps with HorrorVale
- Multiple heroes: The family gives you a roster to develop rather than a single fixed protagonist.
- Persistent progression: Character and family leveling provide long-term advancement across runs.
- Repeatable dungeons: Procedurally generated areas support replayability, a different structure from HorrorVale’s fixed four acts but a strong fit for players who want many combat sessions.
- Co-op: Local or online co-op lets two players share the action, an option not identified for HorrorVale.
The key trade-off
This is action-RPG combat, not the traditional turn-based system advertised for HorrorVale. Decisions happen through movement and real-time attacks rather than selecting commands for a party in turns. Its roguelite development also means the rhythm is built around repeated dungeon attempts, while HorrorVale is described as a long, act-based adventure with sidequests.

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Choose it when
Choose Children of Morta if your priority order is party progression, replayable combat and the option to play cooperatively. Do not choose it solely because you want turn-based battles or a single linear horror campaign; those are not the qualities Nintendo’s description emphasizes.

4. Hermitage: Strange Case Files — investigation before combat
Hermitage: Strange Case Files broadens the list toward paranormal investigation. Nintendo describes a paranormal horror adventure set around a sinister bookstore. The protagonist investigates supernatural incidents and Lovecraftian case files with companions.
Why mystery fans may prefer it
- Case-based structure: The story is organized around incidents and files to investigate rather than a dungeon-clearing loop.
- Companions: You investigate alongside other characters, which can satisfy readers who value a group dynamic even when it is not a conventional battle party.
- Lovecraftian framing: The horror is rooted in strange cases and supernatural discovery, making it a natural fit for readers who enjoy uncovering explanations.
- Distinct setting: A sinister bookstore gives the investigation a recurring home base instead of a broad overworld.
Why it is only an adjacent recommendation
Hermitage is described as an adventure, not as a traditional turn-based RPG. There is no evidence here for recruitable combat characters, character leveling, four acts or a 50-hour campaign. Put it on your list when the investigative side of HorrorVale appeals more than its battle system, and label it an alternative in subject matter rather than a mechanical replacement.
5. SPOOKWARE — a short-form comedic horror detour
SPOOKWARE is the most different recommendation, but it can work if what you enjoy in HorrorVale is macabre humor and a willingness to make horror playful. Nintendo describes a road trip through the land of the dead starring three skeleton brothers, with more than 100 horror-themed microgames spread across story episodes.
What you are getting
- Microgame variety: More than 100 horror-themed microgames provide many brief interactions instead of one traditional combat loop.
- Episode-based travel: The skeleton brothers’ road trip supplies a light narrative frame for the challenges.
- Comedic tone: The premise and presentation lean into the absurd side of the undead, making this the closest match for HorrorVale’s possible macabre humor rather than its RPG systems.
Why it is not a HorrorVale replacement
SPOOKWARE does not reproduce a recruitable party, turn-based battles, leveling or a long sidequest-driven campaign in the information available here. Think of it as a palate cleanser between heavier horror games: a good fit for short sessions and comic timing, not for a 50-plus-hour RPG commitment.

How to choose without buying the wrong kind of horror
If atmosphere is your non-negotiable
Start with Yomawari: Lost in the Dark. Its haunted town, missing memories, curse and ghost evasion directly address the request for a spooky world. Use the Switch demo to check whether stealth and avoidance feel satisfying enough without conventional battles.
If you specifically want an RPG label
Start with WORLD OF HORROR, but verify its current mechanics from the Nintendo product page. Nintendo’s catalog placement supports the horror-RPG classification; it does not support assuming HorrorVale-style turn-based party combat.
If party development matters more than turn order
Choose Children of Morta. Its family roster, individual and family leveling, procedural dungeons and co-op make it the strongest match for progression and repeatability, even though combat is real-time action RPG play.
If solving supernatural cases is the appeal
Choose Hermitage: Strange Case Files. Its bookstore setting, companions and Lovecraftian case files put investigation at the center. Expect an adjacent adventure, not a traditional RPG campaign.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If you want horror that is funny and easy to sample
Choose SPOOKWARE. The three skeleton brothers and 100-plus microgames deliver a comedic undead road trip, but not HorrorVale’s party-RPG structure.
Best Value

- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.

Availability, editions and timing
HorrorVale: Deadluxe Edition is announced for Nintendo Switch-family consoles, with enhanced visuals, better performance and new battles. The announcement does not include a release date, so availability should be treated as future and unconfirmed until an official date appears.
The alternatives have different levels of certainty. Yomawari has a Nintendo Switch release dated October 25, 2022 and a demo. WORLD OF HORROR appears in Nintendo’s Switch horror catalog with an October 26, 2023 release listing. Children of Morta, Hermitage: Strange Case Files and SPOOKWARE are identified in Nintendo descriptions as Switch games, but the information here does not establish current regional pricing or whether every edition remains in every storefront.
Before paying, open the Nintendo eShop page for your country and confirm the exact title, edition, language information, downloadable size, multiplayer requirement and current price. Prices, promotions and regional availability are volatile; none should be inferred from an older release date.

- Try Yomawari’s demo first. This is the lowest-risk way to test whether haunted exploration and ghost evasion provide the tension you want.
- Move to WORLD OF HORROR if the RPG category is essential. Confirm its current mechanics and edition details before checkout because the catalog information does not enumerate them.
- Use Children of Morta for a longer progression loop. It is the best fit for leveling heroes, repeating dungeons and playing co-op.
- Switch to Hermitage when you want investigation. Its paranormal cases and companions offer a slower, mystery-led alternative.
- Keep SPOOKWARE for shorter, lighter sessions. Its microgames and comedic undead road trip work when you want horror without a sustained RPG campaign.
This order moves from the closest atmospheric match to the clearest RPG classification, then to progression, investigation and comedy. It also avoids assuming that one game can duplicate every feature announced for HorrorVale.
