Best Nintendo Switch Games Like Feed the Deep for Exploration and Resource Management

DREDGE is the closest overall Nintendo Switch alternative to Feed the Deep. It keeps the deep-sea setting, equipment research, boat upgrades and hunt for valuable discoveries. Choose Dave the Diver if you want exploration connected to a restaurant business, Subnautica for harsher survival pressure, or Moonlighter if turning expedition loot into shop decisions is the management layer you enjoy most.

Feed the Deep establishes a useful benchmark: procedurally generated underwater caves, limited oxygen, hostile wildlife and missions that send you farther into the deep. The games below match different parts of that formula rather than copying it exactly. Use the comparison table for a quick shortlist, then read the individual sections to see how each game handles exploration, resource pressure, upgrades and management.

1. DREDGE: the closest overall match

DREDGE is the strongest first recommendation because its core loop combines deep-sea discovery with equipment progression. Nintendo’s description centers on researching special equipment, upgrading your boat, and reaching rare fish and valuable deep-sea curios. That gives it the same forward pull as Feed the Deep: every successful trip can make the next trip farther, safer or more profitable.

How its exploration differs

You explore from a boat rather than steering a diver through procedurally generated caves. The sea remains the defining environment, but the rhythm is organized around voyages, catches and returning with what you found. Progression leads toward rarer fish and curios, so exploration has a clear reward ladder instead of being purely about mapping space.

#1 Best Overall
Dredge [Deluxe Edition]
  • DREDGE is a singleplayer fishing adventure with a sinister undernurent
  • ERASE A MYGICE: Captain your fishing coach across a collection of remote islands, each with its own uninhabited to meet, wildlife to emerge, and stories about growing
  • Drive depths: Scour the sea for hidden solutions and complete quests to provide access to new abilies
  • Explore your craft: Research special equipment and upgrade your boat capabilities to provide access to rare fish and worthy deep-sea trips

Where resource management matters

Your practical decisions are tied to what the boat can carry and which equipment is worth researching next. A trip aimed at valuable deep-sea finds competes with the need to improve the boat. That makes route planning and upgrade timing meaningful without turning the game into a spreadsheet.

Who should choose it

Pick DREDGE when the underwater atmosphere and upgrade loop matter more than literal cave-crawling. Its fishing focus and horror tone are different from Feed the Deep, so it is a close structural match rather than a direct substitute for every mood or mechanic.

2. Dave the Diver: exploration with a business-management second loop

Dave the Diver is the best choice when you want a very clear division between gathering resources and managing what those resources support. Nintendo describes daytime deep-sea exploration and fishing followed by nighttime sushi-restaurant management. The two activities are deliberately connected: what happens in the water supplies the business you run after sunset.

The two-loop structure

During the day, diving and fishing provide the exploration and collection phase. At night, the restaurant turns those catches into a management problem involving service and operations. Switching contexts gives the game a different cadence from Feed the Deep, where the pressure is concentrated in underwater expeditions.

Why it suits management-minded players

The separation makes cause and effect easy to read. A better day in the ocean changes what the restaurant can do that night, while the business layer gives your next dive a practical purpose. If you enjoy seeing resources flow from an expedition into a visible operation, this is the clearest fit on the list.

Trade-offs

The presentation is lighter and more character-driven than Feed the Deep. Choose it for variety and a readable exploration-to-business loop, not for a bleak survival atmosphere or continuous underwater tension.

3. Subnautica: the strongest survival-pressure alternative

Subnautica is the pick for players who want exploration to feel dangerous, three-dimensional and survival-focused. Nintendo places you on an alien ocean planet that includes coral reefs, deep-sea trenches, lava fields and underwater rivers. That range of environments makes discovery itself a major progression driver.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A larger, more open underwater space

Unlike a primarily mission-led descent, Subnautica presents an ocean planet to investigate in first person. Depth and environment change together: a reef, trench, lava field and underwater river create different reasons to prepare before moving on. Exploration is less about completing a sequence of compact cave runs and more about deciding where your next expedition should go.

Resource pressure and preparation

Survival pressure is the defining difference. You must think about supplies, equipment and shelter before committing to unfamiliar territory. The game therefore makes preparation part of exploration rather than a separate menu step.

DREDGE Complete Collector's Edition - Nintendo Switch
  • A special edition of DREDGE with of all the DLC included on the cart / disc (Blackstone Key, The Pale Reach and The Iron Rig). Also features exclusive artwork and a reversible inlay that depicts the cover of the Book of the Deep.
  • A replica of the mysterious Sign of Ruin talisman. A symbol of the deep is carved into this unassuming rock. It's sure to draw the attention of those attuned to it. Approximately 10cm x 10cm x 10cm in size.
  • A double-sided poster featuring the all-new Complete Collector’s Edition artwork on one side and the original DREDGE artwork on the other.
  • A fold-out nautical chart to help you navigate your way around The Marrows and the surrounding archipelagos, along with a sticker set of map markers.
  • A complete compendium of all fish and their aberrant variants in a hardback volume, message from the developer and metal doubloon coin.

When it is the right recommendation

Choose Subnautica if danger, environmental discovery and a first-person viewpoint are more important than a compact upgrade loop. It is a stronger survival sandbox than Feed the Deep, so expect a broader commitment to planning and staying alive.

4. Moonlighter: expedition loot turned into shop decisions

Moonlighter translates resource management into a direct commercial system. Nintendo describes collecting resources, weapons, armor and artifacts in otherworldly dungeons, then setting shop prices, managing reserves, recruiting assistants, upgrading the shop, and crafting or enchanting equipment.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The expedition-to-shop cycle

Dungeon runs supply the goods. Back in town, you decide what to sell, how to price it and how much stock to keep available. The shop is not a decorative break between adventures; it is where the value of each expedition is realized and where future growth is financed.

Why its management is deeper

Several decisions interact: pricing affects sales, reserves affect your ability to invest, assistants change how the shop operates, and upgrades improve the business. Crafting and enchanting also give you reasons to keep some materials instead of selling everything immediately.

Best fit

Select Moonlighter when “resource management” means deciding whether loot should become money, equipment or future capacity. The setting is not underwater, but the risk-and-reward structure of going out, bringing materials home and investing them is highly relevant to Feed the Deep fans.

5. Spiritfarer: Farewell Edition: a cozy boat-and-gathering alternative

Spiritfarer: Farewell Edition replaces hostile underwater survival with a gentler journey, but it retains a strong gather, build and travel rhythm. Nintendo describes building a boat, exploring, farming, mining, fishing, harvesting, cooking and crafting while caring for spirits. Nintendo also stated in 2020 that the base game had been played by more than 1 million people.

Exploration through a growing boat

The boat is both transport and project. Sailing opens access to new places, while the activities you perform along the way produce food, materials and crafted items. Expansion is therefore tied to what you can gather and build rather than to defeating increasingly hostile wildlife.

Management with a human focus

Your main responsibility is caring for spirit passengers. Farming, cooking and construction support that care, giving every resource a social purpose. This is management as scheduling and stewardship rather than commerce or survival optimization.

Who should play it

Choose it when you want exploration, gathering and upgrades without the anxiety of oxygen limits or combat. It is the best gentle alternative, especially if the boat-building and resource loops interest you more than the threat level in Feed the Deep.

6. Cult of the Lamb: combat runs feeding a managed community

Cult of the Lamb combines randomly generated exploration and combat with collecting resources, building structures, performing rituals, delivering sermons and managing followers. That combination makes it a strong choice when you want the expedition loop to have immediate consequences for a settlement.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Two connected systems

Exploration runs produce materials and progress, while the home base turns those gains into buildings, rituals and community development. The random generation keeps each run from being identical, but the settlement gives your efforts a persistent direction.

What replaces underwater danger

The pressure comes from combat and follower needs rather than oxygen or depth. You are balancing time spent gathering resources in the field against the requirements of the community you are building. Sermons and rituals add another layer of planning beyond simple construction.

Best fit

Pick Cult of the Lamb if combat and settlement management are equally important. It is not an ocean exploration game, but it captures the satisfying feeling of bringing expedition resources home to unlock a more capable base.

7. Stardew Valley: the deepest life-sim and long-term progression option

Stardew Valley is the recommendation for players who interpret resource management as building a sustainable life over many in-game seasons. Nintendo frames it around restoring a farm, living off the land, and sharing resources and farm development in multiplayer.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Exploration is optional rather than central

The game offers activities beyond farming, but its main pressure is planning what to grow, gather and develop over time. That makes it less immediately comparable to Feed the Deep’s descent-driven exploration. The payoff is a broader life-sim layer with room for routines and long-term goals.

Why resource sharing matters

Multiplayer resource sharing and joint farm development make cooperation part of progression. Decisions are less about surviving one dangerous dive and more about coordinating which projects, crops or improvements the group should support.

Choose it for

Choose Stardew Valley when farming, relationships and gradual development matter more than constant exploration pressure. It is the least direct match in atmosphere, but one of the richest options for players who want resource decisions to shape an entire community.

8. Moonstone Island: procedural islands and collection-driven crafting

Moonstone Island is built around procedural variety. Nintendo describes 100 islands, temples and dungeons, crops and potion brewing, creature collection, crafting and skill upgrades. That combination makes it a good fit for players who want exploration to keep producing new collection and crafting goals.

ATV Drift & Tricks - Nintendo Switch
  • DRIFT, TRICKS & FUN A quads only racing game
  • Take part in a series of game modes
  • Challenge yourself on varied tracks that you can complete over and over again
  • Choose to race in deserts, forests, mountains, lakes and oases
  • Stunning scenery and landscapes will immerse you in the environment.Take crazy stunts and drifts to the max jump high in the air and rack up the drifts with stunts that will drive your opponents crazy

A broad island structure

The 100-island premise gives travel a clear sense of scale. Temples and dungeons add destinations with different purposes, while crops and potion brewing make the home side of the loop useful between expeditions.

Resource and upgrade choices

Materials can feed several systems: growing crops, brewing potions, crafting equipment and improving skills. Creature collection adds another reason to explore beyond simply gathering raw materials.

Best fit

Choose Moonstone Island if procedural discovery and collecting are your priorities. It is less about underwater survival and more about building a flexible routine across islands, homestead tasks and skill progression.

9. Astroneer: open-ended exploration beyond the ocean

Astroneer moves the formula into outer space. Nintendo describes exploring the frontiers of space, surviving harsh environments, finding rare discoveries and unlocking mysteries. It is the strongest non-ocean substitute for players who mainly want to roam, gather and expand a base.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why the setting still works

Space replaces the sea, but the underlying appeal remains environmental discovery. New worlds and harsh conditions create reasons to improve your equipment and plan expeditions rather than staying in one safe area.

Resource management in an open-ended sandbox

Supplies support continued travel and base development. The game’s open-ended structure lets you decide which discoveries and expansion projects to pursue, so management is about maintaining momentum across an expedition rather than following a tightly prescribed mission order.

Who should choose it

Pick Astroneer if you want freedom to explore and build in a non-ocean setting. It is a better match for the “frontier and progression” side of Feed the Deep than for its specific underwater mood.

10. Forager: a compact 2D exploration-and-crafting loop

Forager is the most compact recommendation. Nintendo calls it a 2D open-world game inspired by exploration, farming and crafting. Its appeal comes from repeatedly expanding what you can access and produce rather than from a long, cinematic journey.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How the loop works

You gather materials, use them to craft and develop your territory, then unlock more room for exploration and production. The open world is presented in a concise 2D format, making the relationship between collecting and expansion easy to understand.

Why it suits short sessions

Because the loop is focused on incremental growth, it works well when you want visible progress without committing to a large survival sandbox. Each new project can change what you are able to gather or build next.

Best fit

Choose Forager when you want the simplest version of the exploration, farming and crafting formula. It has less atmospheric depth than Feed the Deep, but it delivers a clear and efficient resource-to-upgrade cycle.
