For the most reliable The Duskbloods online connection, dock your Nintendo Switch 2 and connect the dock directly to your router with an Ethernet cable. On the console, choose Settings → Internet → Internet Settings → Wired Connection. A wired link avoids the radio interference and obstacles that can make wireless play unstable.
If you must play over Wi‑Fi, keep the console roughly 2–3 metres from the access point, clear objects around both devices, reduce nearby interference, and test the 5GHz band or another channel. These are Nintendo’s and FromSoftware’s practical stability recommendations; no official Duskbloods target for ping, download speed, NAT type, or graphics settings has been published.

What you need for The Duskbloods online
The Duskbloods is a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive online action game. Nintendo lists online play for 1–8 players, while FromSoftware describes a PvPvE format in which as many as eight players fight one another and hostile enemies. Both companies identify 2026 as the release schedule, with details subject to change.
Online features require all of the following:
- A Nintendo Switch 2 console and a copy of The Duskbloods.
- A Nintendo Account.
- Internet access.
- A Nintendo Switch Online membership, sold separately.
The service requirement applies to online features, not to every possible offline activity. If the game cannot sign you in, confirm the account and membership before changing router settings.

Why wired play is the best starting point
The Switch 2 dock can use a wired LAN connection. Nintendo’s setup documentation identifies four pieces: the dock, a LAN cable, a router and an internet service. The cable runs from the router to the dock; the console then uses the dock’s network connection while docked.
FromSoftware’s official network-test notice warns that wireless online communication can become unstable depending on the environment and recommends either a stable wireless environment or wired play with the console docked. That makes Ethernet the clearest first choice when matches drop, voice or matchmaking stalls, or the game repeatedly reconnects.
Ethernet does not guarantee a particular ping, frame rate or match outcome. It removes one source of variability—local radio interference—while your router, internet service, household traffic and the game’s servers still affect the connection.

- Place the Switch 2 dock near your router or run a LAN cable between them.
- Plug one end of the cable into an available LAN port on the router.
- Plug the other end into the LAN port on the Switch 2 dock.
- Place the Switch 2 in the dock and wake it.
- Open Settings → Internet → Internet Settings.
- Select Wired Connection and let the console test the link.
- Start or rejoin an online session only after the test reports a successful connection.
If the wired option does not appear or the test fails, reseat both cable ends, try another router LAN port and check whether other devices can reach the internet. Those checks distinguish a loose cable or router-port problem from a wider service outage.
Wi‑Fi settings that improve stability
Wireless play can work well, but the radio path is affected by distance, walls, appliances and other networks. Apply the following adjustments before changing advanced router options.
Keep the console close to the access point
Put the Switch 2 about 2–3 metres from the wireless access point. A shorter path generally gives the console a stronger signal and fewer opportunities for interference. If the router is in a cabinet or behind a television, move the access point into a more open position rather than hiding the console behind furniture.

Clear physical obstacles
Remove objects between the console and access point where practical. Walls, large furniture and other dense materials weaken the signal. Test from the same room first; if the connection improves there, distance or obstruction is likely contributing to the instability.
Recommended Free Tools
Reduce nearby interference
Keep the console and access point away from active microwaves, cordless phones and other busy Wi‑Fi equipment. Pause large downloads or high-bandwidth streams on nearby devices while testing. The goal is not a particular download speed; it is a cleaner, more consistent wireless path during a match.
Try 5GHz or another channel
On the Switch 2, open Settings → Internet → Connection Status to check the connection information and band. If your router offers dual-band Wi‑Fi, test its 5GHz network. If several nearby networks overlap, selecting a different channel in the router can help. Change one variable at a time and retest so you know which adjustment made a difference.
Use a supported security mode
Nintendo lists WPA Personal, WPA2 Personal and WPA3 Personal as supported security modes. Configurations based on TKIP for WPA or WPA2 are not supported. If the console sees the network but will not authenticate, check the router’s security setting and use a supported mode rather than weakening security or creating an unprotected network.
Wired versus wireless: which should you choose?
| Factor | Docked Ethernet | Wi‑Fi |
|---|---|---|
| Stability under household interference | Less exposed to local wireless interference because data travels over the LAN cable. | Can be affected by distance, obstacles, microwaves, cordless phones and other Wi‑Fi traffic. |
| Console position | Requires the Switch 2 to remain docked. | Allows handheld play and easier movement around the home. |
| Equipment | Switch 2 dock, LAN cable, router and internet service. | Wireless access point, supported security mode and internet service. |
| Installation | Run a cable from a router LAN port to the dock, then select Wired Connection. | Connect to the access point and optimize distance, obstacles, band and channel. |
| Troubleshooting | Start with cable seating, router port and the wired connection test. | Start with distance, obstacles, interference, band and channel. |
| Portability | Limited to the dock’s location. | More convenient for handheld sessions. |
Choose Ethernet when a stable match matters more than handheld flexibility. Choose Wi‑Fi when you need portability or cannot route a cable, then apply the distance and interference guidance above.

Check the current network state
Open Settings → Internet → Connection Status. Review whether the console is connected, which network band it is using and whether the expected access point is selected. This screen is also where you can confirm that a 5GHz test actually used the 5GHz network rather than silently falling back to another band.

Run the connection test after each major change
After switching from Wi‑Fi to Ethernet, moving the access point, changing bands or selecting a new channel, run the console’s internet connection test again. Testing after each change creates a simple before-and-after record and prevents several simultaneous changes from hiding the cause.
Keep the docked console positioned sensibly
For wired play, leave room around the dock and cable connectors so the cable is not sharply bent or pulled. For wireless play, avoid placing the dock inside a closed cabinet or directly beside other radio equipment.
A practical troubleshooting sequence for disconnections
Work from the simplest, most likely causes to the advanced causes that the available official guidance does not define. Do not alter multiple router settings at once.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches1. Confirm account and service prerequisites
Verify that the Nintendo Account is signed in, Nintendo Switch Online membership is active and the console has internet access. Without those prerequisites, network tuning cannot make online features available.
2. Check for a broader outage
Look at Nintendo’s service notices and your internet service provider’s outage information before changing router configuration. A regional or platform outage can look like a local disconnect and will not be fixed by moving the console or changing a channel.
3. Test docked Ethernet
Connect the dock to the router, open Settings → Internet → Internet Settings, select Wired Connection and run the test. If wired play is stable while Wi‑Fi is not, focus subsequent troubleshooting on wireless distance, obstacles, interference, band or channel.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
4. Improve the wireless path
Move the console to within 2–3 metres of the access point, clear obstacles and separate both devices from microwaves, cordless phones and congested Wi‑Fi equipment. Test again from that position before moving farther away.
5. Test 5GHz and a different channel
Use Settings → Internet → Connection Status to verify the band. If the router supports 5GHz, connect to it and retest. If the environment remains crowded, try another router channel and repeat the test.
6. Verify router security compatibility
Ensure the wireless network uses WPA Personal, WPA2 Personal or WPA3 Personal. Remove TKIP-based WPA/WPA2 configurations, which Nintendo does not support.
7. Stop when the evidence points outside the console
If both wired and optimized wireless tests fail while Nintendo and your provider report no outage, contact the internet provider or Nintendo support with the connection-test results and the time of the failures. The cited official material does not prescribe port-forwarding rules, DNS addresses, MTU values or a required NAT type, so changing those values without a specific diagnosis can add new problems.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What is—and is not—officially specified
Nintendo and FromSoftware provide practical connection advice, but they do not publish a Duskbloods-specific numeric target for download speed, upload speed, latency, NAT type or frame rate in the cited material. You should therefore treat “low ping” or “high-speed internet” as general goals, not as official acceptance thresholds.

The 2026 network test and error reporting
FromSoftware’s official network-test notice dated 21 August 2026 states that the test ran from 21–24 August 2026. During a test or other pre-release program, Nintendo provides an optional crash-reporting control at Settings → System → Error Information Sending. Enabling it allows crash information to be sent for product improvement. This setting concerns crash diagnostics, not a way to lower latency or increase wireless signal strength.
Because the release is scheduled for 2026 and the announcement says details may change, menus, test availability and online requirements can be revised by the time you play. Use the current in-console labels and Nintendo notices if they differ from the instructions above.
Recommended setup by situation
You play ranked or high-stakes matches from one room
Use the dock with Ethernet whenever the router can be reached safely. Confirm the wired test succeeds before launching the game, and avoid unplugging the cable or moving the dock during a session.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
You cannot run a cable
Use Wi‑Fi from within 2–3 metres of the access point, preferably on 5GHz when supported. Clear obstacles, reduce nearby interference and test a different channel if the connection remains inconsistent.
You alternate between handheld and docked modes
Use Ethernet for sessions where stability is the priority, then switch to the optimized Wi‑Fi arrangement for handheld play. Keep the wireless access point positioned so the short-distance test is practical when you undock.
The game disconnects only at busy times
First compare a wired session with a Wi‑Fi session and check household traffic. If Ethernet is also affected, review Nintendo and provider outage notices and record the time of each failure before contacting support. If only Wi‑Fi fails, focus on channel congestion and the 5GHz test.
Bottom line
Start with the Switch 2 dock connected to the router by Ethernet and select Settings → Internet → Internet Settings → Wired Connection. If you need wireless play, stay about 2–3 metres from the access point, remove obstacles, reduce interference, test 5GHz or another channel, and use WPA Personal, WPA2 Personal or WPA3 Personal rather than TKIP-based security. The Duskbloods supports online play for up to eight players and requires Nintendo Switch Online, a Nintendo Account and internet access, but no official numeric ping, speed or NAT target is available.
