Coolify is the strongest starting point for a static site because it reports a dedicated Static build pack served by Caddy. Dokploy is the more infrastructure-oriented option, using Docker Swarm services and built-in CI/CD, while Dokku is the simplest single-server, Git-push platform. Cloudflare Pages, Vercel, and GitHub Pages can replace parts of Netlify, but they remain managed services and cannot be self-hosted.
Your choice depends on whether you value a web dashboard, Git-and-CLI simplicity, multi-node ambitions, or a managed edge network. A self-hosted decision also includes the cost and maintenance of the VPS or home server underneath the platform.

What “Netlify alternative” means when you want self-hosting
Netlify combines source-control deployment, build automation, hosting, HTTPS, domains, previews, and operational tooling. A self-hosted replacement moves at least the hosting and deployment control onto infrastructure that you operate. That usually means a VPS, a dedicated machine, or a home server with a reachable network connection.
Self-hosting gives you control over the server, storage, deployment schedule, and data location. It also makes you responsible for operating-system updates, firewall rules, backups, DNS, TLS certificates, monitoring, capacity planning, and recovery. The platform may automate some of those jobs, but it does not remove the responsibility for the underlying machine.

The three names that repeatedly appear in self-hosting comparisons are:
- Coolify: a dashboard-driven self-hosted PaaS with several build-pack choices, including a reported Static option.
- Dokploy: a Docker-based platform that runs applications as Docker Swarm services and includes CI/CD features.
- Dokku: a CLI-oriented, Git-push platform for one server, often described as a small Heroku-style system.
Cloudflare Pages, Vercel, and GitHub Pages are useful Netlify alternatives for people who do not need self-hosting. They are hosted by their respective providers, so they should be evaluated separately from the three self-hosted choices.
Self-hosted alternatives at a glance
| Platform | Hosting model | Interface | Static-site path | Scaling model | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coolify | Your own server | Web dashboard | Static build pack, reported as Caddy-served | Single server by default; Swarm multi-server mode reported as experimental | Docker Compose zero-downtime deployments are reported as unsupported |
| Dokploy | Your own server | Web interface | Not clearly established in the available comparison material | Docker Swarm services | Newer project with fewer documented answers; licensing descriptions conflict |
| Dokku | Your own server | CLI and Git push | Not covered clearly in the available comparison material | One server; no built-in multi-server or horizontal scaling | Reported as stable and well documented after roughly 13 years |
| Cloudflare Pages | Managed edge service | Hosted dashboard and Git workflow | Static sites and SSR applications | Provider-managed edge network | Cannot be self-hosted; reported free-plan limits and paid prices need current confirmation |
| Vercel | Managed service | Hosted dashboard and Git workflow | Especially suited to Next.js and React projects | Provider-managed infrastructure | Reported free tier has 100 GB transfer and personal-use restrictions |
| GitHub Pages | Managed static hosting | Repository-based workflow | Static files only | Provider-managed hosting | No serverless or edge functions, form handling, or analytics in the comparison summaries |
“Reported” matters here. The figures and feature descriptions come from published comparison summaries rather than a fresh verification of each project’s official documentation. Check the current documentation, repository license, and pricing page before committing production workloads.

Coolify is the most direct Netlify-style choice of the self-hosted group when your priority is deploying a static site without building the serving layer yourself. It provides a web dashboard rather than requiring every operation to be performed from a terminal.
How Coolify builds and serves sites
Comparison reports list four build-pack choices: Nixpacks as the default, Dockerfile, Docker Compose, and Static. The Static build pack is reported to serve the generated files with Caddy. That is the clearest static-site path identified among the self-hosted platforms in this comparison.
The practical implication is that a conventional static project can remain a collection of source files and a build command, while Coolify handles the deployment to a web server. You should still confirm the expected output-directory setting, custom-domain flow, redirects, headers, and certificate behavior in the current Coolify release before moving a production site.
Where Coolify fits best
- Teams that want a browser-based control panel for deployments and services.
- Owners of several small sites who prefer one platform rather than hand-configuring each web server.
- Mixed workloads where static sites share a machine with containerized applications.
- Operators who may later use Dockerfile or Docker Compose deployments in addition to static builds.
Capacity and deployment caveats
One comparison page attributes a mixed-workload sizing figure to Coolify documentation: 8 GB of RAM, four CPU cores, and 150 GB of storage. The year and exact workload assumptions were not stated, so treat this as a planning reference rather than a minimum requirement for every site. A small, low-traffic static site may need less; multiple builds, databases, logs, and containers may need more.
Coolify’s Swarm multi-server mode is reported as experimental. Do not treat that mode as equivalent to a mature, automatically scaling edge network. The same comparison material reports that Docker Compose zero-downtime deployments are not supported. If uninterrupted releases are a hard requirement, test the exact deployment method and rollback behavior before launch.

Coolify decision rule
Choose Coolify first when a dashboard and an explicit static build option matter more than minimizing the platform itself. It is the best-supported starting point for a self-hosted Netlify replacement in the available material, but verify the current static build workflow and production limitations on your own version.
Dokploy: a Docker Swarm-oriented alternative
Dokploy is described as a self-hosted, Docker-based platform that runs services as Docker Swarm services and includes built-in CI/CD. That makes it attractive to operators who think in terms of container services and want a platform that can grow beyond a single-process deployment.
Build systems and deployment model
Published comparisons list Nixpacks, Dockerfile, Buildpacks, and Paketo as Dokploy build systems. Those choices cover common source-based and container-based workflows, but the available material does not establish a dedicated static-site deployment path comparable to Coolify’s Static build pack.
If your site is purely static, confirm how Dokploy expects the build output to be served: whether it creates a web-server container automatically, requires a Dockerfile, or uses another service definition. Do not assume that a listed build system automatically provides static hosting, custom redirects, compression, or edge caching.
Why consider Dokploy
- You already standardize on Docker images and want application services represented as Swarm services.
- You want built-in CI/CD rather than assembling every pipeline component yourself.
- You expect to operate multiple services and are comfortable with container orchestration concepts.
Documentation and licensing uncertainty
Comparison pages characterize Dokploy as newer, with fewer documentation pages and fewer community answers than Dokku. That can increase the time needed to diagnose an unusual build, networking issue, or upgrade problem.
Licensing descriptions also conflict. One account describes an Apache 2.0 core with source-available paid features; another describes the self-hosted project as source-available. Read the license files and feature terms for the exact release you intend to run. Do not base a commercial deployment on a summary description alone.
Dokploy decision rule
Choose Dokploy when Swarm-oriented service management and integrated CI/CD are more important than the most clearly documented static-site workflow. For a brochure site or documentation site, prove the complete build-and-serve path in a staging server before switching DNS.
Recommended Free Tools
Dokku: the smallest, most established single-server choice
Dokku takes the opposite approach to a dashboard-heavy platform. It is CLI-oriented and deploys through Git push to one server. Comparisons describe it as a mini-Heroku and report roughly 13 years of maturity, with strong documentation.

What the Dokku workflow implies
A Git-push model is attractive when your deployment process is already command-line based and you want very little control-plane software between the repository and the server. It can be fast to understand: create the application on the host, connect the repository, push a branch, and let the platform build and release it according to the configured deployment method.
The available comparison material does not clearly document Dokku’s static-site handling. A static project may require a particular buildpack or a web-server configuration, so confirm the exact procedure before treating Dokku as a drop-in replacement for a static Netlify site.
Limits to plan around
- Dokku is described as a one-server platform.
- It has no built-in multi-server or horizontal-scaling capability in the comparison summaries.
- High availability, failover, and traffic distribution therefore require infrastructure outside Dokku.
- A CLI-first interface may be less convenient for nontechnical collaborators who expect a visual dashboard.
Dokku decision rule
Choose Dokku when one carefully managed server is enough and you prefer a mature Git-and-CLI workflow. It is a poor fit if your primary requirement is multi-node orchestration or a visual deployment console.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesManaged alternatives that are not self-hostable
Managed services can be excellent Netlify substitutes, but they do not satisfy a requirement to run the platform on your own server. Their providers control the build infrastructure, runtime, and network edge.
Cloudflare Pages
Cloudflare Pages is described as hosting static sites and SSR applications from Git on the provider’s edge network. Edge Functions provide a route for dynamic logic. The comparison material explicitly says it has no Docker support and cannot be self-hosted.
A comparison summary reports the free plan as offering unlimited bandwidth and 500 builds per month. Treat both numbers as plan-specific figures that may change. Paid pricing is inconsistent across the summaries: one cites a $5-per-month Workers Paid figure, while another cites a $20-per-month Pro annual price. Those may refer to different products, billing terms, or dates, so verify the current plan page before budgeting.
Vercel
Vercel is presented as a strong managed fit for Next.js and React projects, with a substantial CI/CD workflow. It cannot be self-hosted. The free tier is reported as capped at 100 GB of transfer and limited to personal use. Confirm the current definitions of transfer, team use, build minutes, and commercial activity before selecting it for a business site.
GitHub Pages
GitHub Pages is described as free for public repositories and purely static. The comparison material says it does not provide serverless or edge functions, form handling, or analytics. It is appropriate for a simple static project that can live in a public repository, but it is not a general replacement for dynamic Netlify features.

| Service | Use it when | Do not choose it when |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare Pages | You want managed edge delivery for static or SSR projects | You require your own server or Docker-based deployment |
| Vercel | Your project is closely aligned with Next.js or React and managed CI/CD | You need self-hosting or server-level control |
| GitHub Pages | A public repository can publish a purely static site | You need server-side logic, forms, edge functions, or private hosting |
Choose by workload and operating preference
For a static marketing or documentation site
Start by testing Coolify’s Static build pack. It is the only self-hosted option in the available comparisons with an explicit static build-and-serve description. Dokploy and Dokku remain possible, but their static paths require confirmation.
For several containerized applications
Coolify and Dokploy are the natural candidates because both provide web-oriented management and support container workflows. Dokploy’s Swarm service model may appeal if you are deliberately designing around clustered services. Coolify is easier to shortlist when a dashboard and mixed static/container workload are the priority.
For one server and minimal platform overhead
Dokku is the focused choice. Its Git-push model avoids operating a larger orchestration layer, provided that one machine, one failure domain, and a CLI workflow meet your requirements.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

Use a managed service instead. Cloudflare Pages, Vercel, and GitHub Pages remove server administration, but that convenience is precisely why they cannot be self-hosted.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A migration plan from Netlify to a self-hosted platform
Move a low-risk staging site first. The platform decision is not complete until the entire path works on your hardware with your domain and rollback procedure.
- Inventory Netlify features. List the build command, publish directory, environment variables, redirects, rewrite rules, headers, forms, functions, scheduled jobs, deploy previews, domain aliases, and analytics dependencies. Mark every item as static, server-side, or provider-specific.
- Classify the workload. A purely static site is simpler than an SSR application or a site that relies on forms and functions. Decide whether those dynamic features will move into containers, an external service, or a different managed platform.
- Select the server. Choose a VPS or home server with enough CPU, memory, storage, and network capacity for the platform plus your builds and other workloads. For Coolify, one comparison cites 8 GB RAM, four cores, and 150 GB storage for a mixed workload; use that only as a starting reference. An Antihost VPS is one option for the server: it is a self-managed Linux VPS with full root access and a one-click Coolify image, available in USA East, the Netherlands and Ukraine.
- Install and secure the host. Apply operating-system updates, restrict administrative access, configure a firewall, create backups, and document recovery access before exposing the deployment dashboard.
- Reproduce the build. Use the same dependency versions and build command as the Netlify project. Confirm the output directory and inspect generated links, assets, redirects, and headers.
- Test the serving layer. Check HTTPS, custom domains, compression, cache behavior, 404 handling, canonical redirects, and large assets. For Dokploy or Dokku, explicitly verify how the static files are served.
- Test failure and rollback. Stop a deployment midway, deploy a known-bad build in staging, restore the previous release, and verify that backups can restore both configuration and content.
- Lower DNS TTL and cut over. Make the DNS change only after the staging host passes functional and performance checks. Keep the old deployment available until you have observed the new host through a normal traffic cycle.
- Document operations. Record upgrade steps, credentials, backup locations, certificate renewal behavior, logs, alerts, and the exact procedure for rebuilding the server.
Costs and capacity: the server is part of the product
Self-hosting changes the cost calculation. The platform software may be free or source-available, but you still pay for compute, storage, backups, bandwidth, domains, and your own operating time. A home server may reduce recurring hosting fees while adding electricity, network, hardware-replacement, and availability concerns.
Capacity depends on more than page views. Build concurrency, image processing, databases, container count, log retention, and backup history can consume more resources than serving static HTML. The reported Coolify reference of 8 GB RAM, four cores, and 150 GB storage is therefore best treated as a mixed-workload planning figure, not a universal minimum.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Dokku’s one-server model keeps the architecture straightforward but concentrates failure risk. Dokploy’s Swarm model can represent multiple services, while Coolify’s multi-server Swarm mode is reported as experimental. Neither description should be mistaken for a provider-operated, globally redundant edge network.
Best Value
Common failure modes and how to avoid them
Assuming a build pack equals a complete Netlify feature set
A build system can compile your project without providing forms, functions, previews, analytics, or edge delivery. Make a feature inventory first and test each dependency independently.
Under-sizing the host
A site may be small while its build is expensive. Watch memory during builds, reserve storage for old releases and logs, and leave room for updates. If the server swaps or fills its disk, deployments can fail even when the site receives little traffic.
Treating experimental clustering as production high availability
Coolify’s Swarm multi-server mode is reported as experimental. Dokku is explicitly single-server in the comparison material. Use tested backups and a recovery plan rather than assuming either platform provides automatic failover.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Ignoring static-serving details
Confirm trailing-slash behavior, client-side routing fallbacks, cache headers, compression, security headers, and custom error pages. Dokploy and Dokku’s static-site paths are not established in the available summaries, so this verification is mandatory.
Relying on stale pricing or licensing summaries
Cloudflare paid pricing is reported inconsistently, and Dokploy licensing descriptions conflict. Read the current official terms for the plan and release you will use. Keep a copy of the applicable license and billing assumptions in your project records.
Pre-launch checklist
- The platform’s current license permits your intended personal or commercial use.
- The server has tested backups and a documented restore path.
- Build commands, output directories, environment variables, and secrets are recorded.
- HTTPS, DNS, redirects, headers, 404 handling, and caching work on the real domain.
- Static-site behavior has been verified specifically on Dokploy or Dokku if you choose either.
- Rollback works without rebuilding the server from scratch.
- You know who receives alerts when disk, memory, certificates, or deployments fail.
- The monthly server, backup, bandwidth, and maintenance cost is acceptable.
- You have a migration path if the platform becomes unmaintained or its license changes.
Bottom line
For most people seeking a self-hosted Netlify replacement in 2026, start with Coolify and test its Static build pack on a properly sized server. Pick Dokploy when Docker Swarm services and integrated CI/CD are central to your architecture, but verify its static workflow and license. Pick Dokku when one server, Git push, and a CLI are exactly what you want. Choose Cloudflare Pages, Vercel, or GitHub Pages only when managed hosting is acceptable; none of them can be installed on your own infrastructure.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can Cloudflare Pages, Vercel, or GitHub Pages be self-hosted?
No. The comparison material describes all three as managed services. Cloudflare Pages and Vercel run on provider infrastructure, while GitHub Pages is managed static hosting.
Which self-hosted option has the clearest static-site support?
Coolify. Its reported Static build pack serves the site with Caddy. Static-site handling for Dokploy and Dokku needs confirmation in the versions you plan to deploy.
Is Coolify’s 8 GB RAM, four-core, 150 GB figure a minimum?
No. It is a reported sizing figure for a mixed workload and its year and assumptions were not stated. Use it as a planning reference, then size for your builds, containers, storage, logs, and backups.
Which option supports multiple servers?
Dokploy is described as using Docker Swarm services. Coolify’s Swarm multi-server mode is reported as experimental. Dokku is described as a single-server platform without built-in horizontal scaling.
