Typing a destination on the car display requires the vehicle to be parked. While moving, use voice input or controls that the app exposes through Android Auto. This restriction is a safety requirement, not a defect in Waze, HERE WeGo or another app.

- A compatible vehicle head unit or aftermarket Android Auto receiver.
- An Android phone with the navigation app installed and updated.

HERE WeGo: the practical free offline alternative
HERE WeGo is the clearest choice when you want downloadable maps and offline navigation without starting with a paid subscription. Its support documentation describes Android Auto support and offline navigation, while its Play listing describes the app as free and advertises downloadable maps.
Prepare offline maps before leaving
- Install HERE WeGo from the official Android app store and complete any initial setup.
- While connected to reliable Wi-Fi, open the map-download area and select the countries or regions you expect to visit.
- Wait for each download to finish, then check that the selected regions are listed as available offline.
- Connect the phone to Android Auto and open HERE WeGo from the car’s app launcher.
- Before departing, test a route that stays within the downloaded area. Testing while parked confirms that the map package is present and the app can project to the car display.
The route-editing limitation matters
HERE WeGo’s support material warns that adding stops and changing route preferences after navigation has started may not be compatible with Android Auto. - Confirm that offline maps cover every country or region you plan to drive through.
- Check the current subscription price, renewal interval, cancellation rules and device limits. These terms can vary, so do not rely on a price quoted for another region or an older release.
- Connect the phone to Android Auto, open Sygic and verify that the Android Auto interface is available before depending on it for a trip.
- Download the needed maps over Wi-Fi and test a route with the phone in offline mode while parked.
Who should consider Sygic

How existing AmiGO users should approach the change
- Look for TomTom’s current migration instructions inside the app or on its official support pages.
- Install the TomTom app and verify that your account, saved places and downloaded regions—if supported—are present.

Set up any alternative navigation app safely
