For paid social video, the safest shortlist is Artlist Pro, Epidemic Sound Commercial or Enterprise, and Soundstripe Pro, Business, Enterprise, or a suitable single-song license. None is a universal winner: the right choice depends on who owns the ad, which accounts publish it, whether the media is paid or organic, the territory and campaign term, and what remains covered after a subscription ends.
Do not assume a personal creator plan or a platform’s built-in music picker clears advertising. Music used in an ad needs a license that expressly covers the placement and publishing arrangement. Use the checklist and service-specific distinctions below to clear a track before launch.

What a paid-social music license must cover
A social post and a paid advertisement are different uses. An ordinary creator license may permit an individual to post on a personal channel while excluding brand campaigns, client work, boosting, or sponsored distribution. The ad account, the page or profile, and the person who downloaded the track may also be different parties.
Recommended Free Tools
Epidemic Sound states that you must obtain the appropriate license to legally use music in advertising. That principle applies even when a platform offers the song in an in-app library. Platform availability is not proof that your specific commercial use is cleared.
Before selecting a service, define the production and media plan:

- Edits: cut-downs, alternate aspect ratios, translations, remixes, and versions that reuse the same recording.
- After cancellation: whether an already-published ad can remain live and whether a new upload, boost, or edit would need an active subscription.
Write these answers down before comparing catalogs. They are the variables that determine whether a plan works, not the number of tracks advertised on a landing page.

What Pro explicitly covers
Artlist’s Music and SFX plan guide describes Pro as the plan for professional and commercial/client work. The listed uses include commercial social use, client work, worldwide video publishing, advertising, paid media, and branded content. That combination makes Pro the relevant Artlist route for a paid social campaign rather than a personal creator plan.
Rank #2
- Helps you relax and sleep. All of these calming tracks are at the rhythm of the resting heart rate.
- 60 minutes of calming guitar music with ocean waves. Creates white noise to drown out other sounds.
- Relax your body and calm your mind with this relaxation and sleep CD that is research-based.
- An ocean background track relaxes you and lulls you to sleep. Relieves stress, anxiety and insomnia.
- Developed by a music therapist. A percentage of profits are donated to help children with cancer.
Why Social is not a cheaper substitute
The same guide says the Social plan is for personal creators and expressly excludes commercial or client work. Posting to Instagram or TikTok is not enough to make a brand ad eligible. Do not choose Social merely because your ad will appear on a social platform.
Important exclusions and post-cancellation rules
Artlist’s license overview describes Pro as worldwide and explains Clearlist plus conditions for continued use of projects published while the subscription is active. It also explicitly excludes standalone audio, including radio advertising, from the Pro license overview. A video ad containing the track is a different use from delivering the audio file as a standalone commercial; verify any audio-only or cross-media plan.
Register the relevant publishing accounts through Clearlist as required. Keep the project and publication date documented so you can demonstrate that the video was released during an eligible subscription period.
Epidemic Sound: paid TikTok and linked-account coverage
Commercial and Enterprise plans
Epidemic Sound’s advertising guidance says an appropriate license is required for advertising and describes subscription use in marketing and digital advertising when a suitable plan is chosen. For TikTok, its licensing guide identifies Commercial or Enterprise plans for paid, promotional, and sponsored content.
Link or safelist every account
The TikTok guide says users must link or safelist their account and that only linked accounts or channels are covered. This matters when an agency produces the ad but a client or creator publishes it. Link the actual account that will host the post or ad, not just the account of the person who downloaded the track. If several brands, creators, or regional accounts are involved, confirm whether each needs separate linking or an Enterprise arrangement.
What happens after cancellation
Epidemic Sound states that videos published during the active subscription remain cleared under its stated conditions, while new uses after cancellation require renewal. Treat a new upload, fresh paid flight, replacement edit, or newly boosted version as a new use unless the service confirms otherwise in writing. Archive the subscription dates, linked-account status, track information, and the original publication record.
Catalog-size or reach figures on the company’s page are marketing claims, not an objective measure of music quality. Choose tracks by fit and license scope, not by an unverified catalog comparison.

Soundstripe: subscription versus single-song licensing
Commercial plans for ads and clients
Soundstripe’s creator licensing guide describes a digital license for personal and business use across major social sites, but states that commercial, client, or monetized work requires Pro, Business, or Enterprise. Personal plans are non-commercial. A paid brand ad therefore needs one of the commercial tiers, even if the same edit will also appear organically.
When a single-song license is useful
The service page says customers can choose a subscription or a single-song license, download tracks instantly, and use them across platforms including ads and television. A one-off license can be practical for a single campaign or a production team that does not need a recurring catalog. A subscription may be more efficient for frequent ads, multiple edits, or ongoing client work. The page does not establish every term for paid boosts, client-owned accounts, territories, or campaign duration, so read the selected license rather than relying on the general description.
Document the exact purchase
Save the invoice, license certificate or receipt, track identifier, project name, client, accounts, and intended media. If the campaign changes from an organic post to a paid placement, ask Soundstripe whether the existing license covers that change before spending media budget.

How to clear a track before publishing an ad
- Describe the campaign in one sentence. Include platform, paid or sponsored status, publisher, client or brand, countries, start date, end date, and whether the post will be boosted or whitelisted.
- Select a plan whose wording matches the use. Look for advertising, paid media, commercial, client, branded content, or sponsored language. A personal or social-only label is not sufficient.
- Check account registration. Complete Artlist Clearlist or Epidemic Sound account linking/safelist steps where required. Ask Soundstripe how the license attaches to a client or creator account if another party will publish.
- Confirm the media and territory. Verify every platform, ad format, country, and campaign term. If the same video may run on television, connected TV, radio, or a website, confirm those rights separately.
- Confirm edit and derivative rights. Ask whether cut-downs, translations, alternate crops, rescores, and later versions are covered by the same project license.
- Check post-cancellation treatment. Determine whether an already-published ad may remain live, and whether a new upload, boost, or edit after expiry requires renewal.
- Obtain written clarification for gaps. Save the response with the project record. If a plan page is ambiguous about client ownership, whitelisting, or an unusual territory, do not infer permission.
- Keep an audit folder. Store the plan name and version, receipt, track page, download date, account links, client approval, and final publication URL.
Choosing by campaign type
One brand, one short campaign
Compare a Soundstripe single-song license with the commercial subscription options. The single-song route may avoid an ongoing subscription, but only if its term, territory, edits, and paid-media rights match the campaign. If you expect several variations or future ads, compare the total administrative effort as well as the fee.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Agency managing several clients
Prioritize account ownership and handoff rules. Artlist Pro is described for client work; Epidemic Sound requires linked accounts or channels; Soundstripe’s commercial tiers are the relevant starting point. Ask each service whether one subscription can cover multiple client entities, who must register the account, and what happens when the agency relationship ends.
Creator whitelisting or sponsored TikTok
Use a plan that explicitly covers paid, promotional, or sponsored content. Epidemic Sound names Commercial or Enterprise for these TikTok uses, with the publishing account linked. For the other services, obtain written confirmation that the creator’s post, the brand’s paid amplification, and the whitelisting arrangement are all included.
Evergreen ads and long-lived libraries
Post-cancellation language becomes central. Artlist describes continued coverage for projects published during an active subscription subject to conditions. Epidemic Sound says new uses after expiry require renewal. If an ad may be relaunched months later, budget for renewal or choose a license whose term expressly permits that future use.
Audio-only or radio adaptation
Do not assume a video-ad license transfers to a standalone audio spot. Artlist’s license overview expressly excludes standalone audio such as radio advertising. Obtain a separate clearance for any audio-only version from the selected service or rights holder.
Common mistakes and how to fix them
- Using a platform music picker for a paid ad: replace the track or obtain a commercial license that explicitly covers advertising.
- Buying a personal/social plan for a brand: move to the stated commercial tier before publication; do not rely on the platform name as proof of eligibility.
- Linking the wrong account: register the account that actually publishes or hosts the ad, and document every additional brand or creator account.
- Assuming a subscription covers every client: ask about entities, seats, channels, and handoff in writing.
- Leaving an expired campaign running without checking terms: verify whether continued display is allowed and renew before a new flight or edit.
- Delivering the music file separately: check for standalone-audio restrictions; a synchronized video license may not permit a radio spot or music-only download.
- Relying on a catalog or reach claim as quality evidence: treat vendor marketing figures as promotional and evaluate the track, search tools, and clearance terms for your actual production.
Questions to ask support or a rights holder
- Does this exact plan cover paid social advertising, sponsored posts, boosting, and whitelisting?
- May an agency publish for a client, and can the client keep using the finished ad after the agency relationship ends?
- Which account or channel must be registered, linked, or safelisted?
- Are all target countries and ad placements covered, including story, feed, short-form video, and connected TV?
- How long may the campaign run, and what happens if the subscription expires while it is live?
- Are cut-downs, translations, alternate crops, and replacement voiceovers covered?
- Does the license permit a standalone audio or radio version?
- What evidence should we retain if a platform generates a copyright claim?
Keep the answers with the campaign record. Licensing pages and plan names can change; the current terms for the selected track and account control.
Bottom line for advertisers
Choose Artlist Pro when you need a clearly described commercial/client plan covering branded video, paid media, and worldwide publishing, while observing its standalone-audio exclusion and Clearlist process. Choose Epidemic Sound Commercial or Enterprise when paid or sponsored TikTok and other digital advertising fit your workflow and you can link every publishing account; remember that new uses after cancellation require renewal. Choose Soundstripe Pro, Business, or Enterprise for commercial/client work, or evaluate its single-song license for a discrete campaign, but verify the exact paid-media and client terms.
There is no evidence-based universal winner. The best service is the one whose written license matches your campaign’s publisher, platform, paid status, territory, term, edits, and post-cancellation plan. If any of those points is unclear, pause the media buy and obtain written clarification.
