There is no evidence-backed mouse sensitivity or crosshair that wins every FPS duel. Game scales, roles, and player preferences differ, so use physical turn distance to compare sensitivity, then test a visible crosshair in the game you actually play. For VALORANT and CS2, Aimlabs’ guide offers 35–75 cm/360 as a starting range—not a proven universal optimum.

What “best settings” means in a duel

The useful setting is not the one with the most popular number. It is the one you can control consistently in the situations your game asks you to handle: turning to a nearby target, correcting a small overshoot, tracking movement, or making a fast turn. Those demands vary between games and even between roles in the same game.

Raw in-game sensitivity values are not a reliable way to compare games. Each game can use a different scale, and DPI alone does not describe how far the view turns when you move the mouse. Centimeters per 360 degrees (cm/360)—the physical mouse distance needed for a full turn—is a more useful common measurement. Aimlabs uses it in its sensitivity guide.

Crosshairs are similarly personal and game-dependent. A crosshair has to be easy for you to locate against the backgrounds you encounter, while still allowing you to see the target. Official game notes describe available controls; they do not establish that one design wins more duels. Treat any setting or code as a candidate to test, not a prescription.

That distinction matters when someone asks for the “best” setting. A popular value may be a useful place to begin testing, but it cannot account for your game’s sensitivity scale, your role, the way you move the mouse, or what remains visible on your display. The practical goal is a setup you can reproduce and evaluate—not a number that promises a particular match result.

How to compare sensitivity across games

Use cm/360, not matching numbers

Record your game, mouse DPI, in-game sensitivity, and cm/360 if you want a baseline. To measure, use a consistent surface and note a starting point for the mouse. Move the mouse in one direction until your character completes one full 360-degree turn, then measure the physical distance traveled. Repeat if the result seems inconsistent. This gives you a practical comparison point even when two games display sensitivity in unrelated units.

A mouse with a larger DPI number does not automatically mean a faster or better setup. DPI and the game’s sensitivity setting work together, and the game’s scale determines what its displayed value means. When moving to another game, do not assume that copying either the DPI or the in-game number will recreate the same turn distance; compare the physical distance instead, then verify the result in play.

For a useful comparison, record each game separately rather than trying to force its settings into a shared raw number. Keep the measurement conditions consistent: use the same mouse and surface where possible, and check that the turn is actually a full rotation rather than an approximate partial turn. If your repeated measurements differ, repeat the test before changing settings. A practical measurement is only as useful as the consistency with which you take it.

If you want to keep a physical baseline, note the mouse’s starting position and the distance it travels for the full turn. A large mouse pad is optional and may make repeated movements easier to measure; it is not required, and there is no basis here to say it improves aim. A ruler or tape measure can also be used, but you can begin with the free in-game test and the surface you already have.

Use the published range as a trial bracket

Aimlabs’ guide gives 35–75 cm/360 as a starting range specifically for VALORANT and CS2. The guide’s original posting date is not exposed in the opened announcement, and this interval is publisher advice, not an independently tested optimum or a range established for every player. Use it only as a bracket for experimentation in those games. It should not be carried over as a universal target for other FPS titles.

Within that bracket, a lower cm/360 means the mouse travels a shorter physical distance for a full turn; a higher cm/360 means it travels farther. The practical trade-off is between being able to turn quickly and making controlled corrections. Which side suits you depends on your game, role, available space, and how reliably you can stop on a target. There is no research-backed threshold here that separates a “good” setting from a “bad” one.

Think of the interval as a way to narrow the initial search, not as a rule that every player must remain inside. If you already have a comfortable, repeatable setting, it can serve as your baseline while you test. If you try a candidate toward one end of the range, compare it with another under similar conditions rather than deciding from one unusual duel or practice attempt. The useful result is what you can control repeatedly in the game you play.

Compare the things that affect your decision

Question What to check How to use it
Which game and role? Whether your duels emphasize deliberate clicks, sustained tracking, or movement-heavy engagements. Choose a starting point for that game and role; do not assume the same raw number transfers between titles.
What is the physical turn distance? Your measured cm/360 alongside DPI and in-game sensitivity. Use cm/360 to compare physical movement across games, while preserving each game’s own sensitivity value.
Can you control it repeatedly? Whether you can stop on target and correct without feeling that the mouse routinely moves too far or too little. Use the same practice routine at each candidate setting. This is a personal self-test, not a validated scientific threshold.
Can you see the crosshair? Its contrast against the maps and situations you encounter. Compare saved alternatives in the actual game environment rather than judging only from a settings preview.
Is the display configured separately? Refresh rate, FPS, and any V-Sync setting. Check these independently; display configuration is not a substitute for calibrating mouse sensitivity.

These comparisons help separate different problems. If the mouse feels too fast or slow, first evaluate sensitivity and turn distance. If you lose track of the reticle, evaluate crosshair visibility. If the game’s motion or presentation feels different, check display settings separately. Changing all three categories at once makes it harder to tell which adjustment addressed the issue.

A repeatable way to tune sensitivity

The goal is to make comparisons that are useful to you, not to follow a training protocol claimed to be scientifically validated. Keep the conditions as consistent as you reasonably can: use the same game, role, practice routine, mouse surface, and kind of engagement while comparing candidate values.

  1. Write down the baseline. Record the game, mouse DPI, current in-game sensitivity, and measured cm/360. This makes it possible to return to your previous setup if an experiment feels worse.
  2. Select a starting candidate. In VALORANT or CS2, you can use Aimlabs’ 35–75 cm/360 interval as a trial bracket. For another game, measure your current setup and use it as a baseline rather than treating that interval as a recommendation for that title.
  3. Run a brief, consistent practice routine. Try the setting in the situations that matter to your duels: acquiring a target, stopping on it, correcting an overshoot, and turning when needed. This routine is a practical comparison method, not a published or controlled test.
  4. Change one variable at a time. If the mouse feels too fast or slow, adjust sensitivity in a small step and repeat the same routine. Do not change DPI, sensitivity, crosshair, and video settings together; doing so makes it harder to identify what helped.
  5. Record the result and compare. Note whether the setting felt comfortable and repeatable, not just whether one attempt felt unusually good. Compare candidates under similar conditions and keep the value you can control most reliably.
  6. Settle before making more changes. Once a setting is comfortable and repeatable, give yourself time to use it in ordinary play before revisiting it. A professional player’s number is not a universal prescription, and copying it does not account for differences in game scale, DPI, role, or personal control.

When a change feels wrong, identify what “wrong” means before adjusting again. Does the mouse travel too far when you try to stop, or not far enough when you need to turn? Does the issue appear only in one type of engagement? Writing down a short observation alongside the setting helps you compare candidates without relying entirely on memory. Keep the notes simple: the value, the physical turn distance, and what you noticed during the same practice routine.

If a new setting makes quick turns easier but small corrections harder, or the reverse, treat that as a trade-off to evaluate in your own role rather than proof that the setting is objectively wrong. Return to your recorded baseline if the change is not useful. An optional large mouse pad may make it easier to perform repeated physical movements while measuring cm/360, but it is not required to tune settings and there is no basis here to claim it improves aim.

How to choose a crosshair that works in a duel

Prioritize visibility in your actual game

Start by checking whether you can locate the crosshair against the scenes you usually play. A design that is easy to see on one background may blend into another. Compare alternatives in the game, including the maps or visual environments where you most often lose track of the reticle. The relevant test is whether you can see it while keeping the target clear—not whether a particular color, outline, or shape is popular.

Change one feature at a time when comparing designs. That way, if a crosshair becomes easier to follow or begins to obscure what you need to see, you can identify which change caused it. Save alternatives where the game allows profiles, and keep a known usable option so experimentation is reversible. No cited source establishes a universally best color, line length, thickness, or center gap.

Consider the two sides of visibility together: you need to locate the reticle, but it should not make the target harder for you to read. A crosshair that looks clear in a static preview might blend into a particular game scene, so use actual play conditions to compare it. If you keep changing multiple elements, such as color and line length, at once, it will be difficult to identify which feature made the difference. Save a version you can return to before trying alternatives.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

There is also no reason to treat one shared profile or code as a universal answer. A code can make it easier to reproduce someone else’s starting configuration in a supported game, but it does not account for your preferred visibility, game environments, or display. Use it as an experiment, then keep or discard it based on what you see in your own matches.

VALORANT: customization and sharing

Riot Games’ VALORANT Patch Notes 5.04, dated August 23, 2022, document custom hex colors, separate horizontal and vertical tuning, the ability to copy the settings of a spectated player, and up to 15 crosshair profiles. These options let you make and save alternatives rather than relying on a single configuration. Copying another player’s crosshair can provide a starting point, but it does not show that the design is best for your own display or visibility needs.

Riot Games’ Patch Notes 4.05, dated March 22, 2022, document importing and exporting crosshair profiles through auto-generated codes. A shared code is a convenient way to reproduce a profile in VALORANT, not evidence that it will look equally clear in every player’s setup. Test an imported design in your own game before making it your default. Current game menus and options can change with later patches, so use the live interface for exact controls.

The notes document the available feature at publication; they do not say that using a particular profile count or color improves duel performance.

CS2: account for resolution-aware sizing

A Counter-Strike 2 update dated September 23, 2026, says that crosshair thickness and length are specified in pixels and that those pixel values are rescaled when display resolution changes to preserve proportional appearance. This means a resolution change can affect how the crosshair is presented even when its pixel settings are retained. Recheck legibility after changing resolution instead of assuming that the same configuration will look identical.

This is a dated update description, not a complete guide to every current CS2 crosshair control or menu path. The available documentation supports the specific pixel and rescaling behavior stated above; it does not establish one winning crosshair configuration. Confirm the options in the game’s current interface.

Keep display settings separate from aim settings

Mouse sensitivity and display configuration are separate parts of the setup. Riot Games Support’s article dated January 8, 2024 distinguishes refresh rate from FPS and documents the VALORANT V-Sync path as Settings → Video → Graphics Quality. Check refresh rate and FPS separately when troubleshooting how the game looks or feels; changing them does not make two games’ sensitivity scales comparable. Windows and driver steps can age, so verify current instructions for those components rather than relying on an old procedure.

In particular, do not treat refresh rate and FPS as interchangeable labels for one setting. Riot’s support documentation treats them as distinct, and its VALORANT V-Sync instructions are a separate video-setting path, not a sensitivity-calibration step. If you are checking how the game is displayed, review those video settings on their own. If you are comparing mouse turn distance, return to the cm/360 measurement and test routine.

Common mistakes that make tuning less useful

  • Comparing raw sensitivity values across games. Different scales make the displayed numbers incomparable. Measure cm/360 instead.
  • Treating 35–75 cm/360 as a universal ideal. Aimlabs presents it as a VALORANT/CS2 starting range, not a universal or independently established optimum.
  • Changing several settings at once. If DPI, in-game sensitivity, crosshair, and video options all change together, you cannot tell which adjustment mattered. Keep a baseline and isolate changes.
  • Copying a pro or community code without testing. A number or crosshair may be a useful starting candidate, but personal control and visibility still have to be checked in your game.
  • Judging a crosshair from a preview alone. Backgrounds vary during play. Check visibility where you actually encounter targets.
  • Assuming a patch-era feature list is a current menu walkthrough. Patch notes document capabilities at publication. Check the live game interface for current labels and paths.
  • Overreacting to one attempt. A single awkward turn or unusually good duel does not tell you whether a setting is repeatable. Use the same routine and compare notes across candidates.
  • Forcing identical settings in every game. A shared physical measurement can help compare turn distance, but it does not mean the same raw value or setup must suit every title and role.

What the evidence does—and does not—establish

The cited material supports a practical measurement method, a publisher’s sensitivity starting range for two named games, and specific documented crosshair capabilities. It does not provide a controlled study showing that a sensitivity, crosshair, or cm/360 value increases duel win rates. Accordingly, use the numerical range as a trial bracket only, and use repeatability and visibility as personal criteria rather than claims of a proven competitive advantage.

Community search results include the questions “How do you set the sensitivity between games so that it’s the same?” and “Is it okay to use different sens across multiple games?” These are examples of reader wording, not survey findings. The useful answer to the first is to compare physical turn distance with cm/360 rather than matching the displayed sensitivity numbers. The answer to the second is that you can use different settings when they suit different games; measure and test each one rather than assuming identical settings are required.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you set sensitivity between games so that it’s the same?

Record each game’s DPI and in-game sensitivity, then compare physical turn distance using cm/360. Raw sensitivity values use different game-specific scales, so matching those numbers does not ensure the same turn distance. Use cm/360 as a baseline and verify each setting in play.

Is it okay to use different sensitivity across multiple games?

Yes. You do not need to force one raw sensitivity number across games. Each title can use a different scale and ask for different kinds of movement. Compare physical turn distance if useful, then keep a setting you can control comfortably and repeatably in that game.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What is a good cm/360 for VALORANT or CS2?

Aimlabs’ guide gives 35–75 cm/360 as a starting range for VALORANT and CS2. It is publisher guidance, not a proven universal optimum or an independently tested range. Use it as a trial bracket, not a prescription.

Should I copy a professional player’s sensitivity or crosshair code?

You can use one as a starting candidate, but it may not suit your game scale, role, control, or visibility needs. Record your baseline, change one variable at a time, and compare in the game you play before adopting it.

Does changing my refresh rate change mouse sensitivity?

Refresh rate and FPS are distinct display considerations in Riot Games Support’s VALORANT documentation, and neither replaces sensitivity calibration. Compare mouse settings with cm/360; check display and V-Sync settings separately.

The Bottom Line

There is no universal best sensitivity or crosshair for FPS duels. Measure physical turn distance with cm/360, use Aimlabs’ 35–75 cm/360 only as a VALORANT/CS2 starting bracket, and compare small changes under consistent conditions. Choose a crosshair you can see in your actual game, save useful alternatives, and keep display settings separate from aim settings.
