The right PS5 monitor depends less on its headline refresh-rate number than on the console signals it can actually display. PS5 supports 4K at up to 120Hz over a compatible HDMI 2.1 connection, and it can output 1440p at 60Hz or 120Hz on compatible displays. The two models below have specific PS5 behavior documented in current testing; the available evidence does not support a trustworthy five-model ranking, so this guide focuses on those verified examples and how to evaluate other options.
What to look for in a PS5 monitor
Resolution and refresh rate
A 4K monitor can show finer detail than a 1440p model, but resolution alone does not guarantee 120Hz support. To play supported games at up to 120Hz, the monitor’s relevant HDMI input and the connection must accept the PS5’s signal. Sony confirms that PS5 supports HDMI 2.1 and 4K 120Hz output, subject to the display and setup: Sony’s PS5 resolution guide.

PS5 also supports 1440p output on compatible TVs and PC monitors. Sony’s 1440p output test can check SDR or HDR at 60Hz and 120Hz, as well as VRR support. That makes 1440p a reasonable choice if you want a smaller screen or a lower-cost option than a comparable 4K display; check the exact monitor’s supported HDMI modes before buying.

VRR and refresh-rate claims
Variable refresh rate (VRR) can synchronize a compatible display’s refresh with a supported game’s output. It requires a compatible display and setup, and Sony notes that results vary by display and game. Do not assume a monitor supports PS5 VRR just because it advertises a high refresh rate; confirm compatibility for the model and its HDMI input. Sony describes the feature on its PS5 features page.
#1 Best Overall
- 27-inch 4K Ultra HD Display: Features 3840 x 2160 resolution gaming monitor with ultra-fast 160Hz refresh rate designed for professional gamers and immersive gameplay
- ASUS Extreme Low Motion Blur Sync Technology: ELMB Sync technology enables ELMB and variable-refresh-rate technologies to work simultaneously to eliminate ghosting and tearing for sharp gaming visuals with high frame rates
- Advanced Synchronization Technologies: NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible, AMD FreeSync Premium, and exclusive Variable Overdrive technology ensure seamless, tear-free gaming experience
- Superior Color Performance: High dynamic range (HDR) technology and 95% DCI-P3 professional color gamut provide amazing color accuracy and vibrant visuals
- Package Contents: Includes DisplayPort cable, L-shaped Screwdriver, Power cord, Quick start guide, and Warranty Card
A monitor rated for 144Hz, 160Hz, or 240Hz does not make PS5 output exceed 120Hz. A higher maximum can be useful if you also connect a PC, but it is not a PS5 frame-rate upgrade.
Panel type, lighting, and desk use
- OLED: Deep blacks can look especially effective in a dark room. Ambient light can raise apparent black levels and reduce the saturation of dark colors on some OLED displays.
- IPS with local dimming: This can produce bright highlights, but local dimming may create visible halos around bright objects, and native contrast can be limited.
- Size and distance: Both verified examples below are 27-inch monitors. Consider whether that size suits your desk distance, and whether you would rather trade some pixel detail for a larger screen.

How to choose between them
Choose the ASUS for dark-room OLED contrast
The PG27UCDM is the stronger fit if deep blacks, vivid color, and 4K detail are priorities and you generally play in controlled lighting. Its 240Hz rating is not a reason to expect more than 120Hz from PS5. If you also use a PC, that extra headroom may be relevant to the PC connection.

- Quality Visuals: The VG270K 27" IPS monitor with 3840 x 2160 UHD resolution in a 16:9 aspect ratio presents stunning, high-quality images with excellent detail. The zero-frame design does away with the thick frames found on conventional monitors freeing up precious screen space.
- AMD FreeSync Premium Technology: Say “goodbye” to stuttering and tearing. With AMD FreeSync Premium, the monitor’s frames are synced with the graphics card’s frames, which eliminates screen tearing and provides the smoothest gaming experience.
- Quick Refresh Rate: Different content has different refresh rate and resolution requirements. If you are playing an FPS or racing game, you will need a monitor with a high refresh rate. However, if you are doing office work or streaming videos, a higher resolution will be more beneficial. With DFR technology, users can choose a higher resolution, or a higher refresh rate based on what is suitable for them.
- Responsive: Up to 0.5ms GTG (Gray to Gray) response time enhanced gamers’ in-game experience. No matter if the fast-moving action or any dramatic transitions will be rendered smoothly without the annoying effects of smearing or ghosting.
- ZeroFrame Design: With a Nitro VG270K monitor, you’ll want to see as much of the display as possible. Get more real estate with the near bezel-less design, allowing you to see more and do more. The ZeroFrame design lets you place multiple monitors next to each other for a seamless, almost uninterrupted view.
Choose the Sony for PS5-specific HDR integration
The INZONE M9 II is worth considering if Auto HDR Tone Mapping and bright highlights matter to you. Its IPS panel and local dimming have trade-offs: blooming and limited native contrast may be noticeable depending on the scene and room. Treat the PS5 feature as a differentiator, not a guarantee of superior overall image quality.

- Confirm the monitor claims support for 4K/120Hz and that you are using the HDMI input that supports it.
- Update the display firmware if an update is available.
- Connect the PS5 directly to the display, rather than through an intervening device that may limit the signal.
- Use the PS5’s included HDMI cable, or an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable rated for 4K/120Hz.
- On PS5, set resolution to Automatic or 2160p as appropriate, and set Video Transfer Rate to Automatic. Check the console’s 120Hz output and VRR settings as well.
For a compatible 1440p monitor, use the PS5 1440p output test to check which SDR/HDR, refresh-rate, and VRR modes work. Sony’s resolution and setup instructions cover the relevant console settings and connection checks. All PS5 consoles support 4K and HDR, but the available output depends on the display and setup.
