Choose a host that permits Geyser, provides a separate UDP-capable Bedrock port, lets you select a current Java version, and publishes clear connection instructions. BisectHosting is a strong location and value candidate, Shockbyte is the lowest-entry Bedrock-focused option in the captured pricing, and Apex Minecraft Hosting is a premium reliability candidate. None is universally best: your players’ geography, world size, mods, backups and renewal price matter as much as the advertised monthly fee.
Can Bedrock and Java players really join one server?
Yes, but the normal cross-play design is not a native “Bedrock plus Java” server binary. You run a Minecraft Java Edition server and add Geyser, which translates Bedrock network traffic so Bedrock Edition clients can join. Geyser describes itself as “a program that allows Minecraft: Bedrock Edition clients to join Minecraft: Java Edition servers.” It can run directly as a server plugin or as a standalone proxy in front of the Java server.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Floodgate is an optional companion. It lets Bedrock players authenticate through Geyser without each player needing a separate Java Edition account. A host may offer both components in a one-click installer, a plugin library, or a documented manual installation. “Supports Bedrock” is therefore meaningful only when the provider also allows Geyser, supplies the required Bedrock UDP port and explains how Bedrock players connect.
What cross-play does not change
- The underlying world, plugins and most server-side gameplay remain Java Edition.
- Bedrock players connect through Geyser’s translation layer, so a Java-only mod that changes the client interface may not work for them.
- Java and Bedrock versions must remain within the versions Geyser supports; compatibility is not permanent.
- Console players may have additional platform-specific connection steps, even when the server itself is configured correctly.
How to choose a Java-and-Bedrock host
Evaluate operational support before comparing headline prices. A cheap plan that cannot expose a Bedrock UDP port or leaves you to debug Geyser is not a usable cross-play plan.

1. Confirm the Geyser path
Ask whether Geyser is installed as a selectable plugin, supplied through a one-click template, or supported as a standalone proxy. Check whether Floodgate is available and whether the host documents the exact Java address, Bedrock address and Bedrock port. Geyser maintains a directory of hosting providers with provider-specific installation and port instructions, but says those entries are community reported and “are not verified by the Geyser team.” Treat the directory as a lead, not an uptime or support certification.
2. Match location to your players
Choose the data-center region that minimizes distance for the majority of players. A large location menu does not guarantee low latency in every country, but it gives you more opportunities to place the server near your group. Ask whether a location can be changed later and whether moving regions requires a migration or incurs a fee.

3. Buy resources for the workload, not the player count alone
RAM is shared by the Java runtime, the world, loaded chunks, plugins, mods and temporary generation work. CPU speed and single-thread performance affect tick rate, while storage type affects start-up and save operations. Look for a clear CPU allocation, NVMe or SSD storage, automatic backups and the ability to increase RAM without rebuilding the server.
4. Read renewal terms and cancellation rules
Promotional first-month prices are not the same as recurring prices. Check the renewal amount, billing interval, taxes, backup storage fees, setup charges and refund window. A provider’s uptime percentage is a claim, not an independent measurement; compare its service-level wording and exclusions.
5. Check the management features you will actually use
- Version selection, restart scheduling and console access.
- Plugin and mod installation, file manager and SFTP access.
- World download and upload tools for moving from another host.
- On-demand and automatic backups, with retention and restore testing.
- DDoS protection, ticket support hours and emergency escalation.
- Permissions for changing Java arguments and Geyser configuration files.

BisectHosting: the location-and-value pick
BisectHosting combines advertised Java and Bedrock support with 21 worldwide locations and 24/7/365 support. Its captured monthly examples make the resource step visible: $5.99 for 2GB, $8.99 for 3GB and $11.99 for 4GB. Those are page-capture prices, not a promise of the current renewal amount. Before ordering, select the exact edition and region, confirm that Geyser can receive Bedrock UDP traffic, and record the recurring price shown at checkout.
Shockbyte: the lowest-entry Bedrock budget option
Shockbyte’s captured Bedrock page starts at 1GB for $3.99 per month and scales in 1GB increments through 6GB for $23.99. The provider also advertises Java/Bedrock support, NVMe hardware, 99.9% uptime, 24/7 support and DDoS protection. These figures and claims come from the provider and can change. The 1GB tier is best treated as a small test or lightly populated world; leave headroom for exploration, plugins and simultaneous players.
Apex Minecraft Hosting: the premium candidate
Geyser documentation covers installing the plugin on Apex, and a February 9, 2026 comparison places Apex in a premium reliability category. That label is an editorial positioning, not a controlled benchmark. Verify current RAM, CPU allocation, region, backup policy, renewal price and Bedrock-port procedure for your plan. Performance still depends on workload and geography.
How much RAM does a cross-play server need?
There is no single RAM number that guarantees smooth play. Bedrock translation adds work, but world complexity, simulation distance, entity count, plugins and mods usually matter more than the edition label. Use the following as a starting decision framework, then monitor memory and tick performance after real players join.
| Use case | Practical starting point | Why you might need more |
|---|---|---|
| Small vanilla world, a few friends, limited exploration | 2GB | New chunk generation, high view or simulation distance, many entities or frequent travel |
| Small community with several plugins and regular simultaneous play | 3–4GB | Large farms, map tools, live backups, many loaded chunks or extra moderation plugins |
| Modded Java server with Bedrock players through Geyser | 4GB or more, based on the modpack’s stated minimum | Heavy automation, world-generation mods, large packs and client/server version requirements |
| Large public world or many concurrent players | More than 4GB, sized from profiling rather than a generic promise | Peak concurrency, redstone-heavy areas, view distance, plugin databases and frequent chunk generation |
Do not allocate every available megabyte to Minecraft. The operating system, Java process overhead, Geyser, Floodgate, panel agents and backup jobs need working room. Increase RAM only after checking whether CPU saturation, a distant region or a misbehaving plugin is the real bottleneck.

Version compatibility in 2026
Cross-play compatibility is volatile. Geyser currently lists Bedrock versions 26.30–26.52 and Java version 26.3, with Geyser emulating a Java 26.3 client. A host that worked last month may require a Geyser update, a Java-version change or a temporary client rollback after Mojang releases a new version.
- Before purchase, open the host’s version selector and confirm the Java version you intend to run.
- Check Geyser’s current supported Bedrock range and compare it with the clients your players actually use.
- Install updates on a backup or staging copy first, especially when using mods or a large plugin stack.
- After an update, test a Java login, a Bedrock login and key actions such as inventory, chat, teleportation and command permissions.
Do not assume that “latest version” on a sales page means every Bedrock client is supported. Ask support which Geyser build and Java server software the plan currently uses.
Step-by-step setup for Java plus Geyser and Floodgate
1. Select the server software and region
Create a Java Edition server on the region nearest most players. Choose a supported version rather than automatically selecting the newest label. Enable file access, console access and scheduled backups before inviting anyone.
2. Install Geyser
Use the host’s plugin installer if available. Otherwise upload the Geyser plugin to the Java server’s plugins directory, restart once to create its configuration, then stop the server before editing settings. A standalone Geyser proxy is an alternative when you want the translation layer separated from the Java process.
3. Add Floodgate when appropriate
Install the Floodgate component supported by your Geyser build. Follow the host’s authentication instructions exactly; do not copy a key file between unrelated servers. Decide whether Bedrock identities should be allowed to create separate profiles or be linked to existing Java accounts, and document that choice for moderators.

4. Configure the Bedrock listener
Set the Bedrock listener to the host-provided UDP-capable port. Many hosting panels expose a primary Java address and a separate Bedrock port; they are not interchangeable. Save the configuration, restart the server and confirm that the panel firewall allows the port.
5. Test both editions
- Join from Java using the normal server address.
- Join from Bedrock using the documented address and UDP port.
- Test Floodgate authentication with a fresh Bedrock account and an existing player account if you use account linking.
- Check permissions, chat formatting, skins, inventory actions, commands, death/respawn and teleportation.
- Generate a backup and restore it to a temporary instance before opening the server publicly.
6. Publish simple player instructions
Give Java players the hostname and Java port. Give Bedrock players the Bedrock hostname and UDP port in a separate line, together with the edition-specific menu path. Tell console players whether their platform requires an additional local-DNS or friends-list workaround; do not promise a universal console procedure when the host has not documented one.

Bedrock cannot find or join the server
- Recheck that the Bedrock address and UDP port are separate from the Java address.
- Ask the host to confirm that UDP traffic is permitted and that the port is assigned to your server rather than another service.
- Verify that Geyser is running and that its configured port matches the panel’s assigned port.
- Test from a second network to distinguish a local firewall or carrier restriction from a server problem.
“Outdated client” or “outdated server” appears
Compare the player’s Bedrock build with Geyser’s current supported range and compare the Java server version with the Geyser emulation version. Update Geyser and plugins in a backup copy first. If the host cannot select a compatible Java version, ask whether it supports a temporary version change or move the world to a host that does.
Floodgate users are rejected
Check that Floodgate matches the Geyser build, that its key/configuration files were generated on the same server and that authentication settings were not overwritten during a reinstall. Review the console log for the first authentication error rather than repeatedly restarting.
The server lags after adding Bedrock players
Measure tick time while reproducing the problem. Reduce simulation distance, pause intensive world generation, inspect entity-heavy areas and disable recently added plugins one at a time. Add RAM only when memory pressure is demonstrated; a weak or oversubscribed CPU will not be fixed by a larger memory plan.

A plugin works for Java players but not Bedrock players
Geyser translates protocol traffic, not every client-side interface or custom item. Check the plugin author’s compatibility notes, avoid Java-only resource-pack assumptions and test commands and menus with both editions. For modded servers, confirm that the modpack’s client requirements are compatible with Bedrock users before advertising cross-play.

Backups, migration and support checks before launch
Make at least one downloadable world backup before changing versions or installing Geyser. Confirm how often automatic backups run, how many copies are retained, where they are stored and whether restores overwrite the live world. Perform a test restore to a separate instance; a backup that cannot be restored is not a recovery plan.
For migration, verify that the host permits full world downloads, preserves Java server properties and supports SFTP or an equivalent transfer method. Export plugin configuration and permissions separately. Record the Java version, Geyser build, Floodgate key location and custom port so you can recreate the setup if billing or a data center changes.
Open a pre-sales ticket with three concrete questions: “Can this exact plan expose a Bedrock UDP port?”, “Which Geyser/Floodgate installation method is supported?”, and “What is the recurring price after the first term?” The quality and specificity of the answer are useful evidence about post-sale support.
A buying checklist for 2026

- Geyser plugin or proxy installation documented for the exact host.
- Floodgate availability confirmed if Bedrock-only authentication is required.
- Dedicated UDP-capable Bedrock port included, with firewall rules explained.
- Region selected for the majority of players.
- RAM, CPU allocation and storage type matched to the workload.
- Plugin/mod-loader and file-access permissions checked.
- Automatic backups, retention, downloads and restore process verified.
- Renewal price, taxes, billing interval and refund terms read.
- Migration tools, support hours and escalation path recorded.
- Java and Bedrock test accounts ready before public launch.
Which host should you pick?
Pick BisectHosting when a choice of 21 locations, advertised 24/7/365 support and clearly tiered 2GB–4GB pricing fit your group; confirm the Geyser port workflow and renewal total. Pick Shockbyte when the captured 1GB/$3.99 entry tier is appropriate for a small world and you are comfortable verifying current Bedrock, Geyser, backup and renewal details. Consider Apex Minecraft Hosting when you value a premium-oriented reliability proposition and are willing to validate the plan’s current resources, location and price. In every case, the deciding test is a successful Java login and Bedrock login on the exact plan before you migrate an established world.
