For wider views, longer reach or close-up work, there are distinct standouts. Panasonic Lumix G and OM System/Olympus lenses share the Micro Four Thirds mount, but you should check the exact camera-and-lens combination before buying because cross-brand compatibility does not guarantee every feature will work.

How to choose a Micro Four Thirds lens
Micro Four Thirds lenses use a shared mount across Panasonic Lumix G and OM System/Olympus cameras, so a lens from one brand may be usable on a body from the other. That broad mount compatibility does not ensure that every body-specific function performs fully. Panasonic’s support documentation warns that its compatibility results are not a guarantee of complete performance and distinguishes lens optical stabilization availability in its tables. Check the exact body, lens revision and any relevant firmware information in Panasonic’s MFT compatibility list before purchase; pay particular attention to stabilization and model-specific features.
Recommended Free Tools
- Focal-length coverage: Consider the range you actually need. A wider zoom can cover landscapes and interiors; a telephoto reaches distant subjects; a superzoom reduces lens changes.
- Maximum aperture: A lower f-number allows more light and can help in dim conditions. The f/2.8 Panasonic standard zoom is brighter than the f/4 M.Zuiko options discussed here.
- Stabilization: Some lenses have optical stabilization, but how it works with a particular camera body can vary. Verify the combination rather than assuming cross-brand behavior.
- Weight and handling: A longer or brighter lens can mean more bulk to carry. Compare the lens’s weight and physical size with your typical kit and shooting style.
- Weather resistance and close focus: These may matter more than maximum aperture for outdoor use, travel, or subjects photographed at short distances.
- Teleconverter support: If you need extra reach, check whether the specific lens supports a teleconverter and consider the resulting kit size and cost.
Best standard zooms for everyday photography
M.Zuiko 12-45mm F4 PRO: a compact constant-aperture choice
Amateur Photographer selects the M.Zuiko 12-45mm F4 PRO as its standard zoom recommendation for 2026. It is the pick to examine if you want a practical everyday zoom with a constant f/4 maximum aperture, rather than prioritizing a brighter f/2.8 setting. Its range is suited to general shooting, from moderately wide scenes to short telephoto framing.
#1 Best Overall
- Multi coated lens: A multi coated lens element reduces ghost and flare to deliver high optical performance (12 elements in 9 groups, [1 UHR lens and 2 aspherical lenses])
- Near silent focusing for video and still: inner focus system enables excellent resolution and contrast from full life size magnification to infinity; stepping motor makes focusing action smooth and near silent for use in video and photo recording
- Lumia optical image stabilization: Panasonic Mega O. I. S. Makes it easy to shoot super clear shots even in low lit situations by suppressing the blur caused by a hand movement
- Medium zoom lens: A 45 150mm (35mm camera equivalent: 90 300mm) focal length with F4. 0 5. 6 ASPH provides a versatile medium zoom range of daily situations
- Seven aperture blade construction: The lens’ seven aperture blades produce an attractive smoothness in out of focus areas, even when shooting at large aperture
Panasonic Lumix G X Vario 12-35mm F2.8 II: brighter and stabilized
Digital Camera World describes the Panasonic Lumix G X Vario 12-35mm F2.8 II as a compact, stabilized everyday zoom and reports a weight of 305g. Its constant f/2.8 aperture gives it a one-stop maximum-aperture advantage over an f/4 zoom, which can be useful when light is limited. Choose between these standard zooms by weighing that brightness and optical stabilization against the range, compactness and stabilization available from your camera body; the sources do not establish a universal winner for every body-and-lens pairing.
Best wide-angle zoom for landscapes and interiors
M.Zuiko 8-25mm F4 PRO
Amateur Photographer recommends the M.Zuiko 8-25mm F4 PRO as its ultra-wide zoom. The guide gives its field of view as equivalent to 16-50mm and notes both good optical performance and close-focusing ability. That range makes it more versatile than a lens used only for extreme wide-angle views, though the guide also cautions that it is somewhat heavy for an MFT walk-around lens. It is a fit for photographers who value its broad framing range and close-focus utility enough to carry the extra weight.
Rank #2

- F1.7 brightness beautiful background bokeh effect from its large diameter F1.7 aperture
- Super lightweight compact at only 125G/ 2.05 inches Length, Lens construction 8 elements in 7 groups (2 aspherical lenses, 1 UHR lens)

Best telephoto lenses for Micro Four Thirds
M.Zuiko 40-150mm F4 PRO: portable reach
For a lighter telephoto approach, Amateur Photographer recommends the M.Zuiko 40-150mm F4 PRO. Its 80-300mm-equivalent range reaches well beyond a standard zoom, while the guide highlights compact, lightweight construction, fast autofocus and IP53-rated weather sealing. This is the more travel-friendly direction if portability matters more than having the brighter aperture and longer range of a larger telephoto.
M.Zuiko 50-200mm F2.8 IS PRO: more light and reach
The M.Zuiko 50-200mm F2.8 IS PRO is Amateur Photographer’s higher-end telephoto option. The guide describes it as high quality and compatible with teleconverters, but relatively large and expensive. It lists a weight of 1,075g, increasing to 1,250g with the tripod ring. The guide’s prices at access were $3,699 and £2,999; those are time-sensitive listings, not durable current-price guarantees. This lens is most relevant if the f/2.8 aperture, stabilization and teleconverter support justify the additional weight and cost for your subjects.
Rank #3
- Ultra-Lightweight & Compact: Weighs only 133g, making it the perfect "Everyday Carry" prime lens for travel and street photography.
- Bright f/1.8 Large Aperture: Delivers beautiful background bokeh and exceptional performance in low-light environments.
- Fast & Silent STM Auto-Focus: Equipped with a stepping motor for quick, quiet, and precise focusing—ideal for both stills and video.
- Excellent Performance: Delivers sharp, reliable results across various scenarios, from portraits and landscapes to close-up lifestyle shots.
- Premium All-Metal Build: Features a durable metal barrel and mount, offering a high-end tactile feel and long-lasting reliability. Metal square lens hood included.
How to decide between the two telephotos
- Choose the 40-150mm F4 PRO if a compact kit, its 80-300mm-equivalent range and weather sealing suit your typical outings.
- Consider the 50-200mm F2.8 IS PRO if low-light capability, stabilization and teleconverter compatibility are higher priorities than carrying weight and budget.
- Before settling on either, check stabilization behavior and feature compatibility for your specific camera body.
Best Micro Four Thirds macro lens
M.Zuiko ED 90mm F3.5 Macro IS PRO
Amateur Photographer names the M.Zuiko ED 90mm F3.5 Macro IS PRO as its macro choice, and the model appears in OM SYSTEM’s official lens catalogue. It is the specialist option in this lineup for close-up photography rather than a general-purpose zoom. OM SYSTEM’s M.Zuiko catalogue lists this and other lenses across its range; a catalogue listing confirms the product is listed by the manufacturer, not that it is in stock at every retailer.
Best one-lens travel option
M.Zuiko 12-100mm F4 IS PRO
Amateur Photographer includes the M.Zuiko 12-100mm F4 IS PRO in its 2026 recommendations as a superzoom. It is worth considering if you want to cover a broad focal-length range without frequently changing lenses. That convenience is the point of a superzoom; photographers who prioritize a brighter maximum aperture, a smaller walk-around setup or specialized wide-angle and telephoto performance may prefer separate lenses instead.
Rank #4
- 3.75x zoom lens

- Lightweight, portable design, 80 to 300 millimeter equivalent field of view
- Nearly silent movie and still compatible auto focus, perfect choice for second lens

Where to check current lens lineups and compatibility
Model ranges and shop prices can change, so use manufacturer catalogues to confirm which products are listed and the compatibility page to confirm your camera-and-lens combination. The Panasonic US LUMIX G catalogue lists models including Leica 12-35mm F2.8 and Leica 12-60mm F2.8-4.0 zooms, as well as 25mm F1.7, 42.5mm F1.7 and 100-300mm F4.0-5.6 lenses. OM SYSTEM’s M.Zuiko catalogue includes options such as the 100-400mm F5.0-6.3 IS II, 150-400mm F4.5 TC1.25X IS PRO and 40-150mm F2.8 PRO. Catalogue presence is not a promise of current retailer stock.
