For a detector that can move between dry ground and underwater searches, start with its stated submersion limit, then check how its modes and ground handling fit your beaches, fields, or parks. Three models with manufacturer-stated submersion limits of 5 m (16 ft) are the Minelab EQUINOX 900, Minelab MANTICORE, and Nokta The Legend. Those specifications make them candidates to compare—not a proven performance ranking.
What to compare before choosing an all-terrain detector
A waterproof rating alone does not establish how well a detector will handle a particular hunt. Water depth, salt conditions, mineralized ground, target type, weight, and search modes all affect fit. Garrett’s manufacturer guidance identifies depth, mineralization, salt conditions, and intended targets as relevant selection factors.

- Water limit: Confirm the exact model’s stated depth and follow its manual. “Waterproof” does not mean suitable at any depth.
- Hunt locations: Look for modes or documented use that match your plans, such as beach, field, park, or underwater searching. A list of modes is not proof of equal performance in every environment.
- Salt and mineralization: Check model-specific documentation for how the detector handles the ground and water conditions you expect.
- Frequency approach: Compare simultaneous multifrequency operation with any listed single-frequency choices and adjustment options.
- Comfort and package: Check weight, shaft dimensions, included coils and headphones, and warranty for the exact regional package.
- Local price and stock: These vary by market and were not established for the models below.

How the candidates differ
Minelab EQUINOX 900
The EQUINOX 900 has the most detailed set of published specifications among these three: four named search modes, simultaneous Multi-IQ, six single frequencies, target ID segments, weight, and warranty. Nokta The Legend
Nokta describes The Legend as a simultaneous multifrequency detector for land, beach, and underwater use, and states it is fully submersible to 5 m (16 ft), IP68. What the specifications can—and cannot—tell you
All three manufacturers state a 5 m (16 ft) water limit, but that shared figure does not show which detector performs best in saltwater, mineralized sand, or a particular target search. The available product information describes features and intended uses; it does not establish a controlled, independent comparison. Choose by matching the documented limit and features to your conditions, then check the model’s manual and the package sold in your region.
