Airalo is the most flexible starting point when you need country, regional, or global choices; Holafly is aimed at travelers who prefer destination plans marketed with unlimited data; Saily and Ubigi stand out for broad app-based catalogues. None is automatically best for every trip. Compare the exact countries, validity period, high-speed policy, hotspot rules, and checkout total for your itinerary before paying.
Maya Mobile remains a useful price benchmark. Its live global page, accessed October 13, 2026, lists one-time packages for 3, 7, 14, or 30 days, with a plan day measured as 24 hours from activation. Prices and availability can change, so treat the figures below as a dated snapshot rather than a permanent rate card.

What Maya Mobile currently offers
Older comparison pages can be misleading because Maya Mobile’s plan structure has changed. The current global page accessed October 13, 2026, shows four one-time packages. Maya states that its global service reaches 165+ countries and 20+ cruise lines; that is a provider claim, not an independent coverage audit.

| Validity | Displayed price (USD) | Arithmetic cost per 24-hour day | Activation timing |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 days | $9.99 | About $3.33 | A day is 24 hours from the moment the plan starts |
| 7 days | $19.99 | About $2.86 | A day is 24 hours from the moment the plan starts |
| 14 days | $27.99 | About $2.00 | A day is 24 hours from the moment the plan starts |
| 30 days | $49.99 | About $1.67 | A day is 24 hours from the moment the plan starts |
The daily figures are simple division of Maya’s displayed prices and do not establish that another provider offers an equivalent bundle. Maya also says Auto Top-Up is optional. Before checkout, verify the selected destination, included data, any speed reduction, hotspot allowance, and whether the package is intended for a phone, tablet, or another device.

Which alternatives are worth comparing?
| Provider | What its current public material emphasizes | Best reason to put it on your shortlist | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Airalo | Country, regional, and global categories; unlimited packages advertised in 130+ countries | You want to match a package closely to a multi-country itinerary or need hotspot support on an unlimited plan | Hotspot use on unlimited plans is subject to the plan’s daily high-speed allowance and fair-use policy; destination lists and terms vary by package |
| Holafly | Destination plans marketed with unlimited-data wording, app or QR setup, 24/7 support, and a monthly global plan | You prefer a simple destination purchase and want to investigate a plan marketed around high data use | “Unlimited” is a provider label. Check fair-use, reduced-speed, tethering, destination, validity, and price terms for the exact package |
| Saily | Plans in 200+ destinations and setup through its app | You want a broad destination catalogue with app-led installation | The device must support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked; no independent performance result establishes that it is faster or more reliable than competitors |
| Ubigi | Data plans in 200+ destinations | You want another broad-coverage catalogue to price against your route | The device must support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked, and the provider-wide destination count does not guarantee inclusion in every package |
The coverage totals in this table are provider-stated catalogue figures. They do not prove that a particular plan covers every border crossing, island, cruise stop, or rural area on your journey.
Airalo: the flexible itinerary option
Why it can replace Maya Mobile
Airalo exposes country, regional, and global plan categories, so you can price a single-country visit differently from a trip through several neighboring countries. Its unlimited-package page says unlimited packages are available in 130+ countries and identifies regional options. That combination is useful when you do not want to buy separate country plans for every stop.
What to verify before buying
- Open the exact country, regional, or global package and confirm every destination in your itinerary. The 130+ figure describes availability for unlimited packages, not universal inclusion in every plan.
- Read the high-speed allowance. Airalo says hotspot is supported on unlimited plans, but tethered use is subject to the plan’s daily high-speed allowance and fair-use policy.
- Check when validity begins. Activation triggers and duration choices can differ between offers, so do not assume that installing the eSIM starts the clock in the same way as using data.
- Confirm whether the package is data-only and keep your primary line available if you need a conventional phone number for calls or SMS.
When Airalo is a strong fit
Choose Airalo for a route where package granularity matters: one country for a weekend, a regional bundle for a road trip, or a global option when the itinerary spans several regions. It is less suitable to choose by brand name alone when a specific destination has unusual fair-use or speed conditions; the package page is the deciding document.
Holafly: destination plans marketed as unlimited
What the offer means in practice
Holafly’s homepage promotes destination plans with unlimited-data wording, app or QR setup, 24/7 support, and a monthly global plan. Those features make it an obvious comparison for travelers who expect heavy navigation, messaging, video calls, or social uploads and would rather not calculate a small data allowance.
Do not interpret “unlimited” as a promise of unrestricted maximum-speed tethering. Before payment, locate the package-specific fair-use language, any high-speed threshold, reduced-speed behavior, hotspot permission, supported destinations, validity period, and total price. If those details are not visible for the exact offer, you cannot make a like-for-like comparison with a capped plan.
When Holafly is a strong fit
It is worth checking when your priority is a destination-branded plan with a simple installation path and support availability. Compare it against a capped plan using your expected daily consumption and whether you will share data with a laptop. A plan that says unlimited but restricts tethering may be a poor match for remote work, even if it suits phone-only use.
Saily: broad destination choice with app setup
Device requirement
Saily’s help material states that activation requires an eSIM-compatible, carrier-unlocked device. These are separate checks: a phone can contain eSIM hardware yet still reject another carrier’s profile because it is locked to its original network.

Why travelers consider it
Saily advertises plans in 200+ destinations and routes setup through its app. That makes it convenient if you want to browse a catalogue, install before departure, and manage the plan from one interface. The 200+ figure is a provider catalogue claim; verify the exact country and package rather than treating it as a guarantee for every destination.
Questions to answer on the package page
- Is the allowance fixed, recurring, or described as unlimited?
- What is the validity period and what event starts it?
- Is hotspot or tethering allowed?
- Which local networks are used, and are there exclusions for offshore or cruise coverage?
- Does the offer provide data only, or any local number, voice, or SMS capability?
Ubigi: another broad catalogue to price against your route
Coverage and compatibility
Ubigi’s official homepage advertises data plans in 200+ destinations. Ubigi also requires an eSIM-compatible, carrier-unlocked device. As with every provider-wide coverage number, confirm each country in the selected package, especially when an itinerary includes territories that are marketed separately from the country you expect.
How to evaluate it
Use the exact destination offer to compare data quantity, speed policy, validity, activation trigger, hotspot rules, and checkout currency. A broad catalogue is useful only if the package covers the stops you will actually make. If your route changes frequently, look for a regional or global option and check whether its terms differ from the provider’s country plans.
How to compare plans without being misled
1. Build the itinerary list
Write down every country and territory where the phone may connect, including airport layovers, ferry terminals, islands, and cruise ports. A provider can advertise hundreds of destinations while a particular regional plan excludes one stop that matters to you.
2. Normalize the duration
Compare the same number of calendar days and understand the activation clock. Maya defines a day as 24 hours from plan start. Other providers may use different validity choices or activation triggers. Installing an eSIM before departure can therefore have different consequences from merely downloading its profile.
3. Compare usable high-speed data
Record the allowance before any reduction, the point at which speed changes, and the conditions for returning to full speed. Treat “unlimited” as a label until the package explains fair-use and throttling. Airalo explicitly ties unlimited-plan tethering to a daily high-speed allowance and fair-use policy; look for equivalent language elsewhere.
4. Check tethering separately
Phone data and laptop sharing are not automatically the same service. If you need a hotspot, confirm that tethering is permitted and whether shared data consumes a separate cap. A plan can be generous for on-device use yet restrictive when connected to a computer.

5. Compare the checkout total
Headline prices are not equivalent when one offer covers three days and another covers thirty, or when one is capped and another is subject to fair-use reduction. Select the same destination, duration, data behavior, hotspot requirement, and currency before deciding. Maya’s displayed prices are a useful baseline, but they are not an apples-to-apples quote for any competitor.
6. Confirm calls and SMS needs
The services described here are sold primarily as data connectivity. If you require a local telephone number, traditional voice calls, or SMS that works independently of messaging apps, inspect the individual offer and keep an appropriate primary-line option active. Do not assume that an eSIM data plan replaces your normal number.
Device and account checks before purchase
Confirm eSIM support
Check the exact phone model and regional variant with the manufacturer. Two phones that share a marketing name can differ by market, and some tablets or carrier editions omit eSIM support.
Confirm the carrier lock status
Look in the phone’s cellular or network information for an unlocked status, or ask the original carrier. An eSIM profile cannot overcome a carrier lock. Saily and Ubigi both state the unlocked-device requirement in their support material.
Prepare an internet connection for installation
Download the provider app or QR details while you have dependable Wi-Fi. Keep the activation email or QR code accessible on a second screen if the phone cannot scan a code displayed on itself. Do not delete the profile until the trip and any refund or support window have ended.

- Purchase the exact destination package. Recheck countries, duration, data policy, hotspot rules, and the final currency amount at checkout.
- Install through the provider’s app or QR code. Follow the on-screen instructions and label the new line with the provider or trip name so it is not confused with your primary SIM.
- Leave your primary line configured deliberately. Decide whether it will handle calls and SMS while the travel eSIM handles mobile data. Disable data switching if your phone could silently move data back to the primary line and create roaming charges.
- Activate at the right moment. If the offer starts validity at installation or activation, wait until the intended trip window. Maya’s stated clock begins when the plan starts and advances in 24-hour days.
- Test data before leaving Wi-Fi. Turn off Wi-Fi, confirm that the travel line is selected for mobile data, and load a simple webpage or messaging service. Test again after landing if the provider’s instructions use a local network selection.
- Record support details. Save the order number, installation instructions, and support channel offline. This is especially important if you need to troubleshoot without airport Wi-Fi.
Menu names vary by operating-system version and phone manufacturer, so use the cellular or mobile-network settings for your model rather than relying on a generic screenshot. The decisive controls are the data line, roaming permission for that line, and automatic data switching.

The phone says the eSIM cannot be added
- Recheck that the device model supports eSIM.
- Confirm the phone is carrier-unlocked.
- Connect to stable Wi-Fi and retry the app or QR installation.
- Check whether the profile was already installed; repeatedly scanning a single-use QR code may fail.
- Contact the provider with the order number rather than buying a second package immediately.
The eSIM is installed but there is no data
- Set the travel eSIM as the mobile-data line.
- Turn on data roaming for the travel line if the provider’s instructions require it; leave roaming off for your primary line to avoid unexpected charges.
- Toggle airplane mode, restart the phone, and allow a few minutes for network registration.
- Check that the destination is included in the purchased package and that the plan has actually started.
Data works but the speed is unexpectedly low
Review the plan’s high-speed allowance and fair-use language first. On an unlimited package, reduced speed may be an advertised condition rather than a fault. Move to a location with better signal, disable large background downloads, and test again. If the package promises more high-speed data than you have used, contact support with the time, location, network name, and device model.

Hotspot does not work
Verify that tethering is included for that exact package. Airalo’s unlimited plans, for example, support hotspot subject to a daily high-speed allowance and fair-use policy; another provider may impose different restrictions. If tethering is allowed, enable the phone’s personal-hotspot setting, keep the travel line as the data source, and reconnect the laptop.
Choose by trip type
Single-country holiday
Compare the country-specific offers from all four alternatives with Maya’s package for the same number of days. The cheapest headline rate may not be the best value if it expires before your return flight or reduces speed at your normal usage level.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Several countries in one region
Start with Airalo’s regional category and any regional offers from the other providers. Confirm every border crossing. A regional plan is worthwhile only when its included countries match the route and its validity covers the entire journey.
Long trip with uncertain dates
Favor a plan whose activation trigger and validity are easy to control. Maya’s 24-hour-day definition is explicit; obtain the equivalent wording for the alternative before installing it early. If the end date may move, calculate the cost of extending or buying a second package.
Heavy phone-only data use
Investigate Holafly’s unlimited-data offers and any unlimited package from Airalo, but compare fair-use and reduced-speed terms rather than the label alone. Streaming, cloud backup, and video calls can consume high-speed allowances quickly.
Remote work with a laptop
Put hotspot permission near the top of the checklist. Airalo documents hotspot support on unlimited plans with a daily high-speed and fair-use condition. For every other package, find a specific tethering statement before purchase; do not infer it from the presence of mobile data.
Cruise or offshore itinerary
Do not assume a terrestrial country plan works at sea. Maya claims support for 20+ cruise lines, but that is a provider statement and should be checked against the particular ship and sailing. Ask each alternative whether the package includes maritime connectivity or only land networks at ports.
Why older comparisons may disagree
A Holafly-authored Maya comparison says its information was accurate as of February 6, 2026, yet its described Maya catalogue and pricing differ from the live global page accessed October 13, 2026. Treat that article as a dated snapshot, not current proof of Maya’s prices, durations, or plan categories. The same discipline applies to any comparison page: check its publication or update date and then open the provider’s current offer for your destination.
A practical decision checklist
- Route: Every country, territory, airport stop, island, and cruise port is covered by the selected package.
- Device: The exact model supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked.
- Data: You know the allowance, high-speed threshold, fair-use rule, and reduced-speed behavior.
- Hotspot: Tethering is explicitly allowed if you need it.
- Clock: You know whether installation, activation, or first network connection starts validity.
- Communication: You have a plan for calls and SMS if a data-only eSIM cannot provide a local number.
- Support: Order details and installation instructions are saved offline.
- Price: The final checkout amount is compared for the same itinerary, duration, currency, and usage pattern.
For a first comparison, put Airalo, Holafly, Saily, Ubigi, and Maya’s current package side by side using this checklist. Select the offer whose documented terms fit the trip, not the provider with the largest country number or the most attractive “unlimited” headline.
