Best Marvel and Superhero Shows to Watch After Daredevil (2026 Guide)

Start with The Punisher if you want the closest tonal match to Daredevil. Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle comes directly from the same street-level Marvel corner, with violent, mature crime action and an antihero at its center. If your priority is continuity rather than matching tone, watch The Defenders next: it unites Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist in one crossover story.

After those two, choose Jessica Jones for noir investigation, Luke Cage for Harlem community drama, or Iron Fist to complete the Defenders lineup. For a non-Marvel alternative, Arrow is the closest grounded vigilante show; Peacemaker offers a deliberately comic, R-rated reversal; and Batman: Caped Crusader delivers animated period noir. Streaming catalogs and ratings vary by country, so verify your local listing before starting.

The best next show depends on what you want from Daredevil

Finishing Daredevil leaves several valid next steps. You can stay with Matt Murdock’s connected Marvel world, keep the grim crime-drama mood, switch to another vigilante, or change format and tone altogether. The ranking below separates those goals instead of pretending there is one universal sequel.

Rank Show Best reason to choose it Connection to Daredevil Format and listed run Platform listed in the cited guides
1 The Punisher Closest gritty, violent crime match Direct spinoff connection through Frank Castle Live action; 2017–2019 Disney+
2 The Defenders Best shared-world continuation Direct crossover with Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist Live action; 2017 Disney+
3 Jessica Jones Noir investigation and trauma-focused character work Shared Defenders setting Live action; run not stated in the cited guide Disney+
4 Luke Cage Harlem crime drama and community protection Shared Defenders setting Live action; run not stated in the cited guide Disney+
5 Iron Fist Completing the Defenders lineup Shared Defenders setting Live action; run not stated in the cited guide Disney+
6 Arrow Serious, non-Marvel vigilante action Separate universe Live action; 2012–2020 Netflix
7 Peacemaker A sharp tonal pivot into violent comedy Separate universe Live action; 2022–present Max
8 Batman: Caped Crusader Animated Gotham noir Separate universe Animated; 2024–present Prime Video

The platform column reflects the services named by the cited Disney and Us Magazine guides, not a permanent worldwide guarantee. A title can move or be unavailable in your territory.

1. The Punisher is the closest show to Daredevil

The Punisher is the most natural first choice when what you miss is Daredevil’s hard-edged New York crime atmosphere. Us Magazine describes it as a Daredevil spinoff built around Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle, so this is not merely a similar-style recommendation: it comes from the same connected corner of Marvel television.

Frank is an antihero rather than a masked lawyer trying to balance two lives. His solution to organized crime is lethal force, which makes the series substantially more violent and morally severe than Daredevil. Choose it for gun-heavy crime action, a damaged central character and a mature treatment of vigilantism. Do not choose it expecting Matt Murdock’s courtroom structure, Catholic moral conflict or a direct continuation of Matt’s personal plot.

The cited recommendation guide lists the series as running from 2017 to 2019. Disney’s coverage of Daredevil: Born Again also confirms that Frank Castle/The Punisher remains part of the current Daredevil story, reinforcing the character’s continuing place in that street-level ecosystem.

When to put it first

  • Pick it immediately after Daredevil if tone matters more than crossover mechanics.
  • Pick it if you want another conflicted New York antihero rather than a team show.
  • Delay it if graphic violence or an explicitly lethal protagonist is a deal-breaker.

2. The Defenders is the continuity choice

The Defenders is the bridge for viewers who want to remain in the Netflix-era street-level Marvel world. It brings Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist together against shared enemies, turning four separate character tracks into one crossover.

It is the best answer to “Which Marvel show comes next after Daredevil?” when “next” means staying inside the same ensemble continuity. The cited guide lists the miniseries as a 2017 release. Because it is built as a team-up, it assumes interest in more than Matt alone; the other three heroes are not cameo-level additions.

Should you watch it before Jessica Jones, Luke Cage or Iron Fist?

You can watch The Defenders immediately after Daredevil if you mainly want the crossover premise. However, the solo shows provide each hero’s setting and character history, so viewers who want the fullest context should sample or finish those stories before the team-up. There is no need to abandon the crossover plan if one solo series does not appeal: choose the character whose premise fits you, then return to the shared event.

3. Jessica Jones brings investigative noir

Jessica Jones is the strongest follow-up for readers who value investigation, damaged protagonists and psychological character work more than hand-to-hand spectacle. Disney’s Marvel streaming page places it alongside Daredevil and the other Defenders shows, establishing the shared setting; the noir and trauma emphasis is the reason to select it.

Its appeal is a private-investigator perspective rather than Daredevil’s courtroom-and-rooftop routine. The story’s central tension comes from living with trauma and trying to exercise agency, giving the show a more inward investigative shape. It belongs in the continuity path, but it is not a substitute for The Punisher if what you want is relentless combat.

4. Luke Cage shifts the focus to Harlem and community

Luke Cage is the choice for a neighborhood-centered crime drama. Disney lists it among the Marvel shows streaming on Disney+, and its place in the Defenders group makes it a continuity-safe move after Daredevil.

Where Daredevil often narrows its attention to a single vigilante and his enemies, Luke Cage emphasizes Harlem, local power and the responsibilities of a protector whose community knows his name. Select it when you want street-level stakes with a stronger civic and community perspective. It shares the universe but not Daredevil’s exact mood, so expect a different social setting rather than a copy of Hell’s Kitchen.

5. Iron Fist completes the Defenders lineup

Iron Fist is best approached as a continuity decision. Disney lists it with Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, and Danny Rand is one of the four heroes brought together in The Defenders.

Choose it when your goal is to see the entire quartet and understand every member of the crossover team. Its premise leans toward fantasy martial arts rather than the grounded crime realism associated with Daredevil, so viewers seeking the closest tonal match should put The Punisher first. This is the completionist option, not the default recommendation for every viewer.

6. Arrow is the strongest non-Marvel alternative

Arrow answers the question, “What non-Marvel superhero show feels like Daredevil?” better than the other alternatives here. Us Magazine describes Oliver Queen’s return after a five-year island ordeal and his violent vigilante mission, with an initially serious action style.

The series is not connected to Marvel or to Matt Murdock. Its value is structural and tonal: a damaged person returns to a city, adopts a dangerous mission and confronts criminal threats through disciplined, often brutal action. The cited guide lists its run as 2012–2020 and its platform as Netflix. Because it is a separate universe, you can start without any Defenders preparation.

Choose Arrow when

  • You want live-action vigilante action but have finished the Marvel corner.
  • You prefer a long-running hero journey to a crossover miniseries.
  • You want serious early-season action without importing Daredevil continuity.

7. Peacemaker is the deliberate tonal opposite

Peacemaker works when you want to stop watching serious vigilantes for a while. Us Magazine calls it an outlier because Christopher Smith is a comedic, R-rated antihero rather than a solemn crime fighter. The story follows his post-Suicide Squad trauma and a covert mission, combining emotional fallout with deliberately outrageous violence.

That contrast is the point. It shares the mature, bloody edge that some viewers associate with Daredevil, but its humor constantly undercuts the heroic pose. Expect a separate universe, not a Marvel continuation. The cited guide lists the series as running from 2022 to the present and places it on Max.

8. Batman: Caped Crusader is the animated noir option

Batman: Caped Crusader is the recommendation for viewers who want detective atmosphere and moral darkness in animation. Us Magazine describes a mature Batman reimagining set in the 1940s, with crooked police, Detective Renee Montoya and classic villains.

Its period setting and animated format distinguish it from every live-action choice above, while the focus on corruption, investigation and a solitary urban hero makes it a natural companion to Daredevil’s noir side. The show belongs to a separate Batman universe. The cited guide lists it as 2024–present on Prime Video.

Pick a watch order by your goal

If you want the closest emotional handoff

  1. Start with The Punisher.
  2. Move to The Defenders if you want the wider street-level cast.
  3. Choose Jessica Jones or Luke Cage afterward for a different character and setting within that world.

If continuity is your priority

  1. Use The Defenders as the central crossover.
  2. Add the solo Defenders series that interest you: Jessica Jones for noir investigation, Luke Cage for Harlem community drama and Iron Fist to complete the four-hero lineup.
  3. Watch The Punisher when you want Frank Castle’s direct connection to Matt’s world.

If you want a fresh universe

  1. Choose Arrow for grounded, serious vigilante action.
  2. Choose Batman: Caped Crusader for animated period detective noir.
  3. Choose Peacemaker when comedy and an R-rated antihero are more appealing than realism.

Where the shows are listed, and why availability can differ

The Walt Disney Company’s official Marvel streaming page lists Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher and The Defenders on Disney+, with a local-availability caveat. That page also lists other Marvel television, but the six titles above are the relevant street-level path after Daredevil.

The Us Magazine guide used for the non-Disney recommendations lists The Punisher and The Defenders on Disney+, Arrow on Netflix, Peacemaker on Max and Batman: Caped Crusader on Prime Video. Those listings are snapshots, not guarantees: licensing, release windows and age-rating rules change by country. Netflix Tudum’s superhero guide is dated July 30, 2026, another reminder that even current catalog pages have a publication date. Search the title inside your local service and check the displayed rating before committing to a watch order.

Why these recommendations fit the current Daredevil direction

In a Walt Disney Company article dated March 4, 2025, Marvel Studios Head of Television, Streaming, and Animation Brad Winderbaum said: “It’s really like the comics where you would pick up an issue of Daredevil and you want to stay in a grounded, street-based ecosystem.” That description explains why the first five recommendations stay close to New York street crime, shared characters or grounded personal stakes before the list branches into other universes and formats.

The same article says Daredevil: Born Again is TV-MA, uses gritty realistic hand-to-hand action and keeps its focus on the streets of New York City. Winderbaum also said the action and stunts are “all born out of character.” In practical terms, that favors a recommendation such as The Punisher when you want character-driven brutality, while Jessica Jones and Luke Cage preserve the street-level setting through different forms of conflict.

Final decision checklist

  • Closest match: The Punisher.
  • Best continuity bridge: The Defenders.
  • Best noir investigation: Jessica Jones.
  • Best community-centered crime story: Luke Cage.
  • Best completionist choice: Iron Fist.
  • Best non-Marvel vigilante: Arrow.
  • Best comic, R-rated pivot: Peacemaker.
  • Best animated noir: Batman: Caped Crusader.

For most viewers, the efficient path is The Punisher first and The Defenders second, then one of the solo Defenders shows based on the tone you want. Choose Arrow, Peacemaker or Batman: Caped Crusader only when the appeal is a new universe or a deliberate change of format and mood.
