Here, “Obsession-inspired” means a glamorous gothic mood, not a specific licensed makeup collection. The look combines sharp black lines, smoky or twilight shades, sculpted skin, dramatic lashes and a red or deep lip. Durability depends on the order of the layers. A primer gives foundation an even surface; thin base layers are less likely to crack; powder controls shine where makeup moves; waterproof or water-resistant eye products resist tears and sweat; a longwear lip limits feathering; and a final mist helps the whole film of makeup wear more evenly. No setting spray can compensate for a thick, oily or incompletely dried layer underneath it.

Keep the finish controlled by powdering the sides of the nose, center forehead, under-eye crease and any area that becomes oily. Leave the high points of the cheekbones lightly set if you want the sculpting to retain some dimension. This division helps the black liner and red lip remain the visual focus.
MAC Studio Fix Fluid plus powder
Studio Fix Fluid with powder is the higher-end base route. The fluid provides the complexion coverage; powder placed selectively adds resistance where foundation tends to migrate. It is useful for a long night in warm rooms, but the extra powder step can look dry if applied heavily. Base-layer technique

Liquid layers must dry before you place adjacent pigment. If you immediately press shadow over a wet wing, the edge can blur or transfer to the upper lid. Keep the eye relaxed while the line sets, and avoid repeatedly opening and closing the lid during that interval.
Smoky and twilight shadow
Use plum, burgundy, charcoal or other twilight colors to create dimension around the black. Keep the strongest black pigment close to the lash line and fade the surrounding shade outward; this preserves the graphic line while preventing the entire lid from becoming a single dark block. A waterproof or water-resistant shadow or pigment is preferable for the outer corner, lower lash line and any graphic detail that may contact moisture.
For sensitive eyes, place shimmer or loose pigment only after the cream or liquid base has set, and keep particles away from the tear duct. Patch-test unfamiliar formulas before Halloween; irritation causes watering, which is a greater threat to a wing than ordinary humidity.

Lashes
Finish the eye with volumizing mascara or false lashes after the liner. Mascara adds density with less application complexity; false lashes create a more overtly theatrical silhouette. Trim a strip lash to the shape of your eye, apply adhesive sparingly, wait until it becomes tacky and set it along the lash line without pressing on the wet liner. If you use mascara, let the liner dry first so the brush does not drag the wing.
Lips: red, burgundy and near-black options

A Super Stay longwear lipstick in a red or deep shade gives the look its strongest color contrast. Outline first with a matching liner if you have one, fill the corners carefully and blot once before adding a final thin layer. Preventing feathering and discomfort
- Exfoliate only if your lips tolerate it; irritated skin will make a fixed formula feel worse.
- Apply a very thin balm earlier in your preparation, then remove surface slip before lipstick.
- Use a lip liner to create a clean boundary, especially with dark shades.
- Carry the lipstick for a precise repair rather than adding a new thick layer over a worn one.

Spray only after the lip and eye work is complete. Hold the bottle at the distance specified on its label, mist in an even cross or zigzag pattern and let the film dry without fanning or touching the face. Setting spray is the clearest single purchase for extending wear, but it cannot make an unstable base waterproof after the fact. Blotting paper and a small compact are better for removing oil than adding repeated layers of powder.
Application order for an all-night result
- Prep. Cleanse, moisturize and allow skincare to settle. Remove excess balm from the nose, eyelids and lips.
- Prime. Use a thin layer where you need grip or smoothing. Avoid coating the eyelids with face primer if it leaves them slippery.
- Build the complexion. Apply foundation and concealer in thin layers. Add cream contour or blush only if the products are compatible; otherwise powder the base before using powder color.
- Set selectively. Press powder into creases and oily zones. Keep the cheekbone area lighter if you want a sculpted sheen.
- Map the eye. Place plum, burgundy or charcoal shadow first, blending the edge while it is still workable. Keep the darkest tone at the lash line.
- Draw the wing. Use waterproof black liner in short strokes. Let each liquid section dry before touching it with shadow or opening the eye fully.
- Add lashes. Apply volumizing mascara or false lashes after the liner has set. Check both eyes from several angles before moving on.
- Shape the lip. Outline, fill with the longwear red or deep lipstick and remove any excess from the inner lip.
- Lock everything. Mist setting spray evenly over the finished face. Wait until it dries before putting on a costume, veil or high collar.
- Pack maintenance items. Bring blotting paper, a compact, lipstick and a cotton swab for correcting a tiny edge. Avoid carrying a full wet eye kit unless you expect a complete repair.

Troubleshooting during the party
Oil breaks through the forehead or nose
Press blotting paper onto the area; do not rub. If shine remains, tap a small amount of powder only where needed. Re-misting the entire face can add unnecessary moisture and texture.

The wing transfers onto the upper lid
Wait until the liner is completely dry before closing the eye tightly. For a repair, use a pointed cotton swab with a small amount of waterproof remover, let the area dry, then redraw only the missing section. Do not drag a wet swab through the intact wing.

Smoky shadow looks patchy
Use a clean blending brush to soften the outer edge, then press a small amount of the original mid-tone over the gap. Adding more black rarely fixes uneven distribution; it usually makes the patch larger.
Lip color fades in the center
Remove loose residue from the inner lip, redraw the border if necessary and apply a thin coat to the center. A full new layer over partially worn lipstick is more likely to clump.
Eyes water
Stop rubbing. Blot tears at the outer corner, check that lash adhesive has not migrated and remove any loose particle that is irritating the eye. Persistent pain, swelling or blurred vision is a reason to remove the eye makeup rather than attempting another touch-up.

- Soak a cotton pad with a dedicated waterproof eye or makeup remover and hold it over the closed eye for several seconds. Let the solvent dissolve the film before wiping downward.
- Use a cleansing balm over the face, including the longwear lip, and massage gently with fingertips.
- Rinse or remove the balm according to its instructions, then cleanse once more with a mild face wash.
- Check the lash line, corners of the mouth and sides of the nose for remaining black or red pigment. Use a fresh damp cotton swab rather than scrubbing.
- Apply a simple moisturizer after the skin is clean. If the eyes or lips feel irritated, skip exfoliating products until they recover.
Sephora’s Halloween assortment includes cleansing balms, and Lancôme’s spider-web tutorial specifically recommends a waterproof makeup remover after the design. Those recommendations reflect the practical consequence of using film-forming liner, mascara, lipstick and setting spray together: removal needs its own planned step.
How to choose your final kit

What the published wear numbers do—and do not—tell you
Urban Decay’s 24-hour wear statement, Lancôme’s “up to 24-hour” waterproof liner statement, Charlotte Tilbury’s “up to 16-hour” setting-spray statement and MAC’s 24-hour setting claim are manufacturer or retailer claims attached to their respective products or tutorials. They are useful for understanding intended positioning, but they are not independent, controlled head-to-head wear results. Your skin type, humidity, heat, eye shape, friction from a costume and how heavily you apply each layer will change the result. Treat the numbers as claims to compare, not guarantees that makeup will look untouched for the stated period.
