How much cargo room is behind the third row?
For a road trip with all three rows occupied, behind-third-row volume is the most relevant cargo number. Of the cited figures, Lincoln provides directly comparable row-specific numbers for both Navigator wheelbases:

How to match the tow rating to your actual trailer
A maximum tow rating is only one part of the towing calculation. A trailer’s loaded weight includes cargo, water, and installed equipment; tongue weight is the load it places on the hitch. Passengers, luggage, and other added weight also count against the vehicle’s available capacity. Before buying, check the door-jamb labels and owner’s manual for the specific vehicle, and compare its limits with the trailer’s loaded figures—not just the trailer’s advertised dry weight.

- Identify the exact SUV configuration. Record model year, trim, engine, drivetrain, wheel size, and whether the required tow package or accessories are installed.
- Find the vehicle-specific limits. Confirm the maximum trailer weight and applicable payload, hitch, and tongue-weight limits in the manufacturer information for that vehicle. Audi explicitly conditions its Q7 ratings on towing accessories.
- Calculate the loaded trip. Include the trailer’s cargo and fluids, all occupants, luggage, and any equipment added to the SUV. Ensure the resulting loads remain within the vehicle and hitch limits.
- Verify the trailer and hitch together. Confirm that the hitch and wiring are compatible with the exact SUV and that the trailer’s loaded weight and tongue weight meet every applicable limit.
If the trailer is close to a limit, do not treat a higher advertised maximum from another trim as a safety margin. Obtain the rating for the specific vehicle and trailer combination before committing to a purchase or trip.

What matters for long road trips beyond the specs?
The figures cited here do not establish comparative road-test results for ride comfort, highway noise, third-row comfort, fuel economy, or luggage access. Those are important purchase criteria, but they require a hands-on check rather than an assumed winner.
- Take the whole passenger group. Sit in the third row, check entry and exit, and assess whether the second-row arrangement leaves enough room for the people who will use it.
- Pack the way you travel. With the third row upright, try the actual suitcases, stroller, cooler, or other routine luggage. A cubic-foot figure cannot show how a particular cargo shape fits through the opening.
