Match model year and trim before comparing prices or range
Start with the exact model year and configuration available to you. A model’s starting price is not necessarily the price of a trim with the range, wheels, options or equipment you want. Range also varies by configuration. Confirm current local inventory and the EPA figure associated with the specific version rather than transferring a number from another trim or year.

Keep EPA, WLTP and preliminary estimates separate
EPA and WLTP are different test cycles. The EQS’s announced 925 km is WLTP; it should not be converted into an implied EPA rating without a stated methodology. Likewise, BMW’s warning that some recent i7 range figures may be preliminary and not EPA-certified matters when comparing them with certified EPA estimates. Label the source and status of each figure rather than treating all published ranges as equally settled.
Look beyond headline range to charging and access
Charging speed is only one part of a useful road-trip comparison. Consider the car’s charging limits, the charging networks and stations along your regular routes, and whether charging is practical where you park. BMW lists 11.5 kW maximum AC charging power for the 2026 i7; that specification is not a universal measure of how quickly every EV will charge in every setting. For any home charger, verify connector compatibility, the vehicle’s onboard AC charging limit, available electrical capacity, installation needs and local requirements.

Check cabin, cargo and driving needs in person
Decide whether you need a full-size rear seat and flagship amenities, or prefer a more driver-focused character. Assess the actual cabin and cargo space on the trim you are considering, including how your usual luggage or equipment fits. A test drive can also help you judge seating, visibility, ride comfort and controls—qualities that a range figure cannot settle.

Tom’s Guide reports that its 2026 Lucid Air Touring test vehicle cost $102,100 and recorded observed efficiency of 3.63 miles per kilowatt-hour. Those are figures for one publication’s test vehicle and conditions, not a universal Air result or a direct test of the alternatives in this shortlist.
