Best Low-Power PC for a Budget 24/7 YouTube Channel in India

An Intel N100 mini PC is a sensible starting point for a modest, continuous 720p or 1080p YouTube stream—especially if you are looping pre-recorded video rather than running a complex production. In India, the Thinvent Treo N100 is one documented example: 8 GB RAM, a 256 GB SSD, Ubuntu Linux, passive fanless cooling and gigabit Ethernet. Its listing requires a quote, however, so its current delivered price and whether it is the best-value option are not established.

For a budget decision, compare the PC’s purchase price and measured electricity use with the cost and maintenance of a hosted stream. The N100 processor’s 6 W base-power rating is not the power draw of the complete computer. Measure the system at the wall while it runs your actual stream before estimating electricity cost.

Which low-power PC should you consider?

Intel N100 mini PC: a plausible fit for a modest stream

The Intel N100 is a reasonable class to investigate for one pre-recorded 720p or 1080p stream. Its reference specifications describe four efficient cores, four threads, boost speeds up to 3.4 GHz, 6 W processor base power and Quick Sync encoding. Those specifications do not establish that every N100 mini PC can handle every encoder, codec, OBS scene or simultaneous workload. The class is less suited to sustained all-core work or demanding 3D graphics. Intel N100 specifications

Treat this as a candidate for a modest workload, not a proven 24/7 reliability guarantee. Before relying on any particular model, test the actual media, overlays, audio, encoder settings, restart behavior and recovery process over a representative period.

India-market example: Thinvent Treo N100

Thinvent’s listed Treo configuration includes an N100 processor, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, Ubuntu Linux, fanless passive cooling and gigabit Ethernet. It has a 12 V DC input and a 12 V / 5 A adapter. The listing asks buyers to request a quote; it does not establish a public current price or delivered cost. Thinvent Treo N100 listing

The 12 V / 5 A adapter specification describes its maximum supply rating, not what the PC continuously consumes. Likewise, the N100’s 6 W figure is for the processor, not the full system encoding and streaming. No measured wall-power result or endurance test for this named PC is established by these specifications. Thinvent Treo N100 listing Intel N100 specifications

Check the workload before buying

Write down what the PC must do continuously. A single looping video with simple audio is a different job from a gaming capture, several camera inputs, animated overlays or multiple concurrent streams. The N100 recommendation is most plausible for the former; the evidence does not establish performance for every more demanding setup.

  • Confirm the exact configuration’s RAM, storage and operating-system compatibility with your chosen encoder.
  • Prefer wired Ethernet where practical; the Treo listing specifies gigabit Ethernet. A port specification does not guarantee the quality of your internet connection.
  • Check ventilation, warranty and seller support, even for a fanless model.
  • Run a representative trial using your real video, audio, overlays, resolution, frame rate and bitrate. Check for dropped frames, audio problems and unexpected restarts.
  • Test how the encoder and stream recover after a PC restart, internet interruption or YouTube disconnect before leaving the setup unattended.

Set YouTube’s encoder stream up with suitable settings

YouTube accepts streams from encoder software or standalone hardware. Its encoder workflow uses a YouTube server URL and stream key; enablement for a first live stream can take up to 24 hours. YouTube recommends testing with audio and motion similar to the real stream and monitoring stream health while live. YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder

Recommended starting points for H.264

Output YouTube-recommended H.264 bitrate
720p at 30 fps 6 Mbps
1080p at 30 fps 10 Mbps
1080p at 60 fps 17 Mbps

These are YouTube’s recommended stream-input bitrates, not internet-plan guarantees. Your upload connection needs sufficient stable capacity for the encoder’s output. YouTube says its service transcodes live streams into formats for viewers. YouTube Help: live encoder settings

Codec, bitrate mode and keyframes

YouTube’s settings guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 video codecs and recommends constant bitrate. For RTMP/RTMPS, it recommends a two-second keyframe frequency and says not to exceed four seconds. It recommends RTMPS because it encrypts data to and through Google’s servers. Estimate electricity cost with a wall-meter reading

Do not calculate a whole-PC bill from the processor’s 6 W rating or the adapter’s 12 V / 5 A label. Measure the complete PC at the wall while it is doing the intended streaming work. Then apply your electricity tariff and the time it will run.

  1. Connect the PC through a suitable plug-in power meter.
  2. Run the actual stream workload, including the encoder, playback, audio and any overlays.
  3. Record the meter’s average power in watts over a representative period.
  4. Estimate energy in kilowatt-hours as: average watts ÷ 1,000 × hours running.
  5. Multiply kilowatt-hours by your own tariff to estimate the electricity portion of the cost.

This estimate covers the measured PC only unless the meter also includes other equipment. It does not include the purchase price, internet service or replacement costs. The available product specifications do not establish the Treo’s actual consumption or your local tariff.

PC, hosted stream or standalone encoder?

There is no established universal cheapest option here: a fair comparison needs the PC’s delivered price, measured wall draw, your tariff and current hosted-service terms. Compare the approaches on total cost, setup and maintenance, workload fit, monitoring and recovery rather than the processor’s nominal wattage alone.

Approach What to weigh What is established here
Local N100 mini PC Hardware purchase, measured power, configuration and ongoing maintenance The Thinvent listing documents one N100 configuration, but requests a quote; no whole-system power measurement or 24/7 endurance result is established.
Hosted 24/7 streaming service Current recurring cost, workflow, monitoring and recovery terms A hosted service is a relevant alternative for avoiding an always-on local PC. Verify current prices and service terms directly.
Standalone encoder hardware Hardware cost, supported codecs and production needs Blackmagic documentation describes direct Ethernet streaming and H.264 RTMP and H.264/H.265 SRT support, including YouTube compatibility; it does not establish fit for a budget-PC price target. With StreamNeo, upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so no home computer or connection has to stay on. Each slot streams the video as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube and plays uploaded video; it does not stream from a camera. Learn about StreamNeo. Start your free first day.

Prepare a continuous stream responsibly

A computer that can encode a video does not grant rights to broadcast it. Use video, music and other material you own or have permission to use, and review YouTube’s copyright rules before scheduling a continuous loop. Repeated or reused material can also raise monetization eligibility questions; copyright permission and monetization eligibility are separate issues. Do not assume that crediting an owner or keeping a stream live makes a work permissible.

YouTube recommends testing before the live stream and checking stream health while it is running. Keep access to the channel and encoder credentials secure, and have a practical way to respond if the source, network, power or encoder fails.
